- IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+72Oh God, English is my third language, let's stop playing with the words' meanings. You knew what I meant, no need to be an ass.
- IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+51Well I knew how Velcro worked, but seeing it so big and clear is awesome! The micro world is something very cool, at least to me.
- IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32These micro pictures are something very interesting to me. If anyone knows a site (other than Flickr is okay), feel free to post it. :)
- breakbeat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27It looks slimy.
- iknow81810, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Velcro is actually a brand name. The generic name for it is actually hook and loop tape, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that it works using hooks and loops...
- LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16My Velcro's usually black.
- markperia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I think they specifically used a red and blue one for this picture to make it look better.
- jsdratm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Is anyone surprised? You can see the hooks and loops with your naked eye.
- paulmdx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5No, it's taken using a Nikon SMZ1500 Stereomicroscope, hence it's micro photography.
http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=5&grp=29&productNr=SMZ1500 - ewc80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I had always assumed that was most likely how velcro works but it does seem to explain why it wears out and loses its "stickiness" after awhile. All those little loops must break after being pulled apart over and over.
- sourwood, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Micro? I thought this was called macro photography. Are the terms interchangeable?
- DrGonzo1184, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Original source of the photo:

- UCFartstudntJON, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Very cool. I love seeing microscopic "worlds". It puts everything in perspective, much like looking down at your city from an airplane...
- ae92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fabric store? My wife dragged me into one once... they have every color and size of Velcro, zipper, button, and god knows what else... I kept hoping a massive bolt of flannel would roll off the shelf and kill me instantly.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where can I get some red velcro?
- acraig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know this is bad form, but this picture looks exactly like one of those proof pictures for Morgellon's Disorder.
- asubigsaxy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very cool, thanks for submitting
- aoe2bug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i thought it was made red / blue because of lighting. look in the middle where the loops meet the hooks. the loops get reddish.
- Corr0sive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love La Blue Girl ^.^
- hiixhii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can stare at that for 4 days.
- KidVicious, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Cglass, when every comment you post is massively dugg down, that might be a clue to stop posting.
- asuraci, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Cglass, is there no end to your douchery?
- plonk420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i was just about to slam the guy for putting (c) at the bottom of the page, but after consulting the almighty (and always correct) wikipedia, i discovered Flickr didn't force images to be Creative Commons... should would have been nice, tho...
- Ikon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK, I bet someone already said this before me but. This was already submitted...why am I always seeing stories being submitted twice?
- ewc80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0CGlass you are a giant poop-head.
- asuraci, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I can understand you're trying to look smart but when everyone already knows what you're preaching it has a reverse effect.
- getmeajury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This image won an award in Nikon's annual Small World microscope-photography competition. They have all the winning images from 1977-2006 posted at http://www.nikonsmallworld.com. Cool stuff.
- xister, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Interesting... I read this thread and then went to submit this story to see if the old story would still come up. The strange thing is, it did but this submission didn't. o_O
- TheWalkingDude, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3These are not all on the micro scale, and I'm sure there are better ones out there, but here is a start.

Google Image Search: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=scanning+electron+microscope - lippe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I am always interested in this type of photography. Some of it is rather obvious, and only shows rather unartistic skill. This picture show something that quite a few people just pass over daily. Nice to see everyday micro-objects at work.
- Qba73, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You learn something new every day, cool pic
- hersman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That's kind of creepy looking
- jezzball, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2hentai!
my favorite - tenrec, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0What I coud do if only I had an Epi-Fluorescence attachment!
- MixMastaMetal, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Awesome post. Like others I knew how velcro worked but seeing it this close up is just amazing, and so much fun.
- mdnash, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3this submission has amazing in the title. yours didnt...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4just because you decided to straggle along doesn't mean that there wasn't plenty of us before you decided to join us... non sequitor... (not spelt correctly)
- stevetr0n, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8proof that the flying spaghetti monster exists?
- timsdd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0nice...I like to take pics like this but it's not quite as micro!
- Modiga, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0It looks like Jelly.
Maybe we can eat it! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6That was 176 days ago. I wasn't even on digg then. Most people weren't on digg then.
- greevar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Rip it! Rip it good!
- fudgebrown, on 10/12/2007, -16/+8sorry to act as dupe-officer but i remember seeing this long ago:
http://www.digg.com/tech_news/Think_Velcro_isn_t_photogenic_Think_again. - Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2Assumed how velcro most likely works... yea it's tricky, for years I thought wizards gave it the magic tough, but no this picture finally cleared things up for me.
- ldavid, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1Yeh bad...looks really yucky
- Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1Nope =D
- Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -15/+3It's neat, but its not astonishing, at least the other article didn't say it was astonishing; makes a nice background though :)
- Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4No this is astonishing, stop being stupid.
