- Yashar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+176It isn't hard to find mexican coke, just head to your local mexican market (most of them have it).
Cola that is. - Lokix, on 10/12/2007, -5/+90You buy tons of ***** made in Mexico and you don't even realize it.
- logicalnoise, on 10/12/2007, -4/+77I bought some philipino soda once, tasted like a really sweet dr. pepper. Then I got to find out what it's like to piss out my ass.
- Hillsfar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+74Sadly, this is the problem with Coca-cola - they are fine with trying to prevent the U.S. consumer from having Coca-cola and other sodas made the way it was decades ago (I'm not talking about cocaine), with real sugar instead of corn syrup. Why? Because corn syrup is cheaper, thus drinks are more profitable.
How about real glass bottles? Real bottles are more expensive and bottlers don't recycle old bottles here in the U.S. because of the costs involved, so they rarely are sold that way in the U.S. except in on rare occasion in a smaller size.
I remember buying Coca-cola as a child and putting down a 10 cent deposit for each bottle. People would collect the bottles from all over and return them for the deposit. - mccarron, on 10/12/2007, -4/+63Only some actually are still made with real sugar, I believe the Mexican labels say: Pure Cane Sugar OR Corn Syrup. It depends on which plant in Mexico makes it. I've had some that doesn't taste different at all, and then another that was clearly real sugar.
You can also order Dr. Pepper from the Dublin, Texas plant ( http://www.dublindrpepper.com ) where they make Dr. Pepper with real pure cane sugar. It's delicious! - Xadrian79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+56Unfortunately, cane sugar is only more expensive due to the tariffs put in place to help out corn farmers in the U.S.
More info on sugar tariffs: http://www.fff.org/freedom/0498d.asp - noamchomskeet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+56High Fructose Corn Syrup gets stored in the body as fat since it comes from a starch (fructose). Cane Sugar is sucrose, the true form of sugar and gets stored in the blood and used up by the muscles.
- Gir53457, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43In California you can find it in Safeways.
- rebopper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42It is relatively easy to find it here in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area as well. I have to say, I cannot drink anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup in it anymore. It makes me sick to my stomach and makes things taste dead and bitter. Sugar is good.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41they make "kosher coke" for passover that is made with real sugar.
- Gir53457, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41Your XBox was probably made in Mexico.
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42Then please remove that American flag from your avatar. You're not helping our image as an overly narcissistic and arrogant nation.
- AstroMech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35I just wish they would manufacture their products with the same real sugar for American consumers across the board.
High fructose corn syrup is just plain bad for you.
/Does not drink soda anymore. - EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -19/+53I'd rather the Columbia Coke.
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32End Corn Subsidies!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31mexican coke isn't illiegal, here (TX) you can buy it at all kinds of gas stations and super markets, you just have to look for it. actually i had one last night. and they are different from the coke sold here. it has a more mellow taste, sweeter and with less bite. also its seems that they are less carbonated, but that could be because they are bottled in mexico and shipped here, regular coked is bottled in dallas which is only 20 minutes away, much fresher. the real difference is the price, its about twice as much here for bottles of mexican coke.
- BattleStar47, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31The sad part is, if those tarriffs were relaxed it would free up a large amount of our corn supply to use as ethanol. The farmer's would be just fine.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -18/+42@bass
You're the only person drinking coke zero so get it while ya can.
Stuff is nasty. - chucksmooth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26when i visited a small town in mexico they actually poured the coke out into a zip-lock type plastic bag and gave you a straw. they wouldn't let you take the bottle.
- ubuwalker31, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25If you want Coke with real sugar, wait until Passover time in the US. Since Ashkenazi Jews can't eat corn during the holiday, stores in heavily Jewish areas will carry Coke made with real sugar, labeled as "kosher for passover". It is good stuff.
- elhaf, on 10/12/2007, -12/+33The difference between Mexican coke and American coke is that Mexico doesn't hold their presidential primaries in Iowa.
- TheBowerbird, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21This is not illegal at all, and it's commonly available at most all supermarkets here in Texas. Along with Mexican coke you'll also find Jarritos and other mexican brands. They are all quite delicious, and come in glass bottles.
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19We Texans must love our sugar. We also have the locally famous Dublin Dr. Pepper (Dr. Pepper with real sugar). The Dr. Pepper plant here in Abilene also produces sugar-based Dr. Pepper. Tastes a bit better, goes down smoother, has no after-taste, and my doctor even tells me it's (at least somewhat) better for you than the corn syrup stuff. Or maybe I should say slightly less terrible for you.
- zizzybaloobah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Is it actually illegal to bring in Mexican Coca-Cola, or just a violation of Coca-Cola's bottling and vendor agreements?
(see http://digg.com/tech_news/Mexican_Coca-Cola_imported_into_the_USA) Coca-Cola doesn't say it's illegal - they just don't like people doing it.
There are several websites available where you can purchase Coca-Cola products from any number of foreign countries, each with a subtle variation in flavor that appeals to that region.
I must admit I like the sugary version better -- but no matter what kind of sweetener, it *always* tastes better out of a glass bottle. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I had a can of Venezuelan Coke on a Continental Airlines flight from Newark to Los Angeles. And I can tell Coca Cola to shove it, because there is a huge difference.
- Hazardc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Jones' started using cane sugar again. 100x better, taste and health wise. it's pretty sad when talking about converting everyone to drinking huge amounts of SUGAR would probably be a health improvement for this country
- ipxodi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16xisupermanix, you're an All American ,eh?
Just like NASCAR.
Except, of the 4 car models represented in Nextel Cup racing only one (of the consumer models) is made in the US. Guess which one:
Ford Fusion
Chevy Monte Carlo
Dodge Charger
Toyota Camry
Yeah, the Toyota. Don't be an idiot -- it's a world market these days. All those Camry's are keeping 40,000 Americans employed. - evil-doer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15all coke in canada is made with sugar.
oh and milk comes in bags. - Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17@xisupermanix (#6507358)
Lots of Volkswagens are made in Mexico. - ptsd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15'does it really matter?'
high fructose corn syrup is extremely unhealthy for you, you want to know why americans are fat and have so many health problems? high fructose corn syrup is one of those reasons.
coca cola uses high fructose corn syrup in the u.s. because its cheaper. the government uses sugar tariffs and corn subsidies to keep the price of sugar high and the price of corn low. free market economy? free market my ass. in the short term and the long run the use of high fructose corn syrup costs american tax payers billions of dollars more than the cost of sugar with tax payer money being used to keep corn cheap, and through the impact high fructose corn syrup has on our health. - ussoldier, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20The sugar and caffeine in Soft drinks is highly addictive. If you think otherwise you are just lying to yourself, and its what addicts do, they lie to themselves in denial. There is no other reason anyone would pay such a premium price for flavored and highly (chemically) polluted water. They put so much sugar or HFCS in soft drinks that if you drank them without copious amounts added phosphoric acid, you would probably gag and spit it out. David Letterman pretty much hit the nail on the head, when he called Dr. Pepper on National TV "Liquid Manure". Which is basically what all soft drinks are.
If I took a glass, and started dumping heaping spoonfuls of sugar into, then poured in a little acid, then took a bottle of food coloring and added a drop into it, then adding a couple of drops of artificial flavoring, added some water to it, and stirred it around and handed it to you, would you drink it? HELL NO.
OK, so let me take an air compressor, and pump some carbon dioxide into it, a waste product (your body expels it, remember), and made it all bubbly. Then I put it in a shiny metal can with pretty graphics on it. You'll drink a few aluminum bits that never quite stuck in the manufacturing process, but don't worry about those trace toxic metals, its all good! Then I slap a 99 cent price on it, stick it in an automated machine, and make it fun to put your money in it, press a button, and hear the clunk clunk of it come out. Drink it, its sweet, instant gratification, no cooking skills or knowledge of proper nutrition required! Just like being a kid again!
Some more health benefits too follow: the roller coaster rides from hyper activity to crash as your blood glucose level reels in shock from the massive amount of sugar dumped into it. The pleasant sounds of copious amounts of farts as the bacteria in your intestines thrive on the excess sugar and produce gas. Your coworkers will love you! The girth around your midsection that mysteriously grows until you look pregnant, even though you are a guy, after drinking this crap for 20 years, after you body becomes diabetic and can no longer deal with the punishment anymore, and converts the extra sugar to fat. The psychotic bouts of depression and confusion you will experience, as your body is robbed of vitamins and minerals to process all these empty calories which contain no nutrition or fiber in them whatsoever. At the low points of blood glucose level, you'll find it incredibly hard to concentrate, and simple tasks or making decisions will become very difficult. You'll feel very fatigued and think you have chronic fatigue syndrome. You'll start to feel heart burn and may get ulcers from the phosphoric acid continually passing through your stomach. Teeth? Watch them rot away as you get cavities, as your teeth are somewhat porous being made of bone... the liquid sugar gets in these pores, and the bacteria thrive on it producing acid as a waste product which eats away at the enamel. All the brushing in the world can't reach inside these pores below the surface.
The solution, of course, if you are already far gone, is to stop drinking this crap, and eat real food not processed by man. Your body was designed to eat meat (you're a carnivore after all) and fresh scavenged vegetables and water. Your body was never designed to eat corn sugar or cane sugar. Through thousands of years of evolution, early man never ate corn, or cane sugar. He was a hunter gatherer, who lived off of fish, carrion, eggs, nuts, and roots and vegetables, and the occasional fruits in the summertime. He got lots of exercise, not by working in some gym, but out in the world doing hard physical work, which kept him lean and raised his insulin resistance.
The soft drink industry is perpetuated one of the biggest crimes on humanity the world has ever known, and a large part of the population is clueless. Soft drinks are not safe, they are not healthy, they are highly addictive, and they are not cheap. Do your own research, the more you will learn just how bad these things are. Or you can ignore my advice, continue chugging these things, and wake up 20 years from now diabetic and obese. And let me tell, you, diabetes is no fun.
You may be in your teens, twenties, or early thirties, and chugging these things and saying "I call bullcrap! I can eat anything I want and it doesn't stick to me! I experience none of these things, and I can stop at any time." You're not very nutrition literate, which is the default, most of us are born and grow up without a proper education about nutrition. Yes, the human body when young is amazingly resilient, it can take a lot of abuse, but eventually its going to start fighting back against you. Its going to start sending you some clear signals you better stop abusing it, by shutting down and functioning erratically. You're not going to know what's going on you, you're going to feel sick all the time, fatigued, confused, stupid, and have no clue why, all the while continuing to consume poison and not know why or what is happening to you. Most people don't know it, but caffeine is actually a poison put out by the coca plant to kill off its neighbors. You keep drinking small amounts of poison every day for 20 years, eventually its going to take its toll on your ability to function and think. - LoKOuri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14In Mexico, you get your coca cola delivered to your house. Empty bottles left outside the house will get replace by a new rack of coke... my grandparents actually have the coca cola guy deliver them all the way into the fridge. Now thats customer service. oh and coca cola in a ziplock bag is the best.
- saska, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13@catalysis: HFCS messes with your insulin system and shuts off the triggers that tell you you're full. The effect of simple sucrose in your system doesn't even come close to being comparable.
Jones Soda is going to all-cane sugar by this summer. The pure cane sodas have started coming out here in Seattle already. - goatspanka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Even my car was made in Mexico (Nissan)
- Skurt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12er... Try water
- chrup, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18But you would buy all that ***** made in China/Taiwan, huh? Support America (the continent that is, America is not just the USA), buy American!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Leptin (a hormone) tells your brain that you are full. HFCS does not cause a release of leptin into the blood like sugar does. After consuming food/drink with HFCS, you will still feel hungry.
http://www.diabeteshealth.com/read/2005/05/01/4274.html - Lux7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10You can find everything in Costco.
Seriously. - GabrielS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Corn farmers are good lobbyists. What else is new?
- MadMaxx426, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Best ***** on earth is called "Ting" from Jamaica. It's made w/ Jamaican grapefruit and who knows how many pounds of sugar. It's the closest thing to a Slurm addiction I could ever imagine... I drank my body weight in it easily.
- moogle516, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Thats why coke switched over to HFCS , because you'll drink more
- Gir53457, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10But Cane Sugar is more expensive than corn syrup.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Yeah seriously, it's friggin' everywhere here you have to know where to look.
Oh and there's a BIG difference in taste. I remember 15-20 years ago when I went to Mexico and tried the coke I was surprised that it did indeed taste different. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12we are seeing more products with real sugar, but we're also seeing more and more products with HFCS.
take a look at all the stuff you buy next time you're at the grocery store. i had a hell of a time trying to find BAGELS that didnt have any HFCS in them. and don't even try to find icecream that has real sugar... unless you just want plain strawberry or vanilla.
all sugar substitutes (especially HFCS) are significantly worse for you than normal, real, natural sugar. if you don't "agree", you're ***** retarded and need to do some research. there are facts out there, and i'm not going to post the technical stuff on here just because you're too lazy to go visit wikipedia. it's no longer an opinion or just some theory; more and more doctors are starting to tell their patients to lay off HFCS. maybe in 20 years people wont be so ignorant to these kinds of truths, and HFCS will become just become another Saccharin. - sagelink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I actually support the idea of a "premium" coke made with real sugar.
I say submit that idea to them for review! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I LOVE MEXICAN COKE!! it makes my leg go like this...go go go.
- Hillsfar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I think a large deposit is good. It makes sure there's more recycling - less pollution to make new bottles, less landfill or dump waste, and people who are poor can collect from people who don't mind giving up the 50 cents.
I'm sorry you don't like the large deposits. I assume you just would rather toss the bottles into the trash? - draebor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I grew up in the states and now live in Canada, and I have to say that drinks made with real sugar are WAY better tasting and better for you than HFCS drinks (high-fructose corn syrup). The only reason that food companies use it in the states is because corn farming lobbyists (like Archer Daniels Midland) pressure the government to impose restrictive import taxes on real sugar, artificially inflating it's price so that they can offer their HFCS comparatively cheaper.
It's health effects compared to sugar are largely unknown and hampered by a lot of questionable 'research' funded by the same people who make sugar imports expensive. Consider, however, that Pepsi and Coke both swiched from sugar to HFCS in 1984 and since that time the number of Americans diagnosed with diabetes has increased from 6 million to over 14 million...
I'd stock up on that Mexican Coke if I were you.

http://www.diabetesnd.org/whatis.html - defaultprophet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9When I went on vacation to Barbados, they had the "real" version of coke. It came in little 8 ounce bottles because apparently people outside the US know you shouldn't drink 32 ounces of sugar water in a sitting. It just tastes so much better. It doesn't give you that " I think I might be drinking radiator fluid" after taste.
- civperc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Indeed, Jarritos is yum!
