- Renton, on 10/10/2007, -2/+53"Shan has asked McDonald's to apologise in newspapers and give him symbolic compensation of 1 yuan (6 pence), the newspaper said."
In case you dont know what a yuan or pence is, it's about 3.37 rubles - MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -0/+30Thats about 0.56 shekels
- realyst, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28"freedom to information" in China, home of the Great Firewall, used to win a lawsuit...
Isn't this the textbook definition of irony? - nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21that's about 1.76 Imperial Credits.
- endtwist, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22This occurred in China. Did you even read the title?
- BillyWells, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22Oh great, now the head of the restaurant is going to be executed.
- skywake, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19approximately $50NZ
- TheAkolyte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14AMERICAN FLAG (made in china)
That always gives me the giggles. - NeoRicen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Do the chinese even have a right to information??
- delgotit99, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14Ahhh the circle is complete.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10That's about 0.06 happy
/obscure? - elnerdo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Since when do the Chinese have a right to information? That's total bull!
- dzorz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Only 0.70 kunas?
- theholycow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9How many bars of gold-pressed latinum?
- ogmak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I live in China, and the KFC here is all in chinese. I have to go there and point to stuff on the menu on the counter, which is alright. That's what they should do in McDonalds.
Burger King is nice for foreigners, since the ppl who work there must all speak English. I wonder why they aren't getting sued. - Sil369, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7The same thing happens in Quebec/Montreal... signs, store signs, are required to have french on them by law. Small example: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/1999/10/15/biling991015.html
- nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6only if they ONLY have spanish signs, i would imagine.... But still, in places like China-towns, sometimes I don't see any english on anything, and you just have to trust that the fireworks are called what the lady says.
- qazws, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7a trillion severed at McDonalds
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+61 CNY = 0.154544 AUD
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Wow.
A chinese man suing for violating rights to information, haha.
Not the government, the worst offender, but MCDONALDS!
Wow. - davidjunit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I guess when you don't have a right to much you get very defensive of little things like the right to know the price of the yuan menu items you just ordered. O_o;
- idc5, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10*****, and has anyone sued the Chinese for their ***** products yet?
- imikedaman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Localization isn't exactly a new thing. You just give each item both an English name and a Chinese name, then just change the text that is printed to the receipt.
- twrife, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9I've eaten at a Chinese McDonalds. I didn't have a problem there. Oh, wait...
- anagoge, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5And served with fries.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8would you like rice with that.
- LeeSoong, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4When In Rome...
- subxero37, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4How do you typo America and accidentally use three Ks?
- TechnoRabbit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4problem is that the US has no official language
- mrhaines, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Suing McDonalds for ridiculous things is the evidence that your country has entered the realm of "1st world countries". Congratulations China!
- ussoldier, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3about half a coconut. or two pretty sea shells.
- CatalystGhost, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Quite frankly, I think people have a right to have their receipts printed in their own language in their own country. I fully support the guy.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3you have no idea what you're talking about do you?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Exactly, when I was in Montreal I had to ask people to translate what some traffic signs meant ( e.g. the parking signs where there's a limitation of what hours and what days you can park your car). Now, I know French have issues with the English but this is a huge pain for tourists like me who go there just to have fun.
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I find it rather odd the receipts are in English. People would pretty much freak here in the same situation.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Appx 0.0001. Maybe less.
- Humbick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21/4 egg roll?
- Optimaximal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Yes it does... American!
- eleraama, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3The thing about is that Mandarin is the official language of China, and hence everything *must* be in Mandarin and whatever other local dialect. But there is no official language of the US, and so a case like this wouldn't work; it has no legal basis.
- Grumps, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why didnt he sue his own government for Internet censorship.
- theholycow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't like what I get if I take the suffix off of "Coca-colonization"...."Coca-colon" just sounds scary.
- krinn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Wow, this is stupid. I ate at a Chinese restaurant in America and the receipt was printed in Chinese. I didn't think of suing them, because the food was good and I plan to eat there again.
Maybe this guy realized that McDonalds food is crap and is just looking for an excuse to sue them. - whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7I thought this was going to have something to do with Chinese food.
- TheAkolyte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No no, it doesnt.
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Me too. It's a poorly written title using an adjective and no noun.
- CatalystGhost, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Except he's not doing it for the money. Personally, I think it's a good idea. You know damn well McDonald's isn't going to change policy otherwise, and in a country where, you know, everyone speaks Chinese, it'd probably be a good idea to print your receipts in the language of the people you're serving to.
- Brian48216, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2it's a whole hell of a lot better then the mexicans in america that sue companies because they dont' speak spanish.....
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1McDonald's sued in China for not using Chinese __________
In this case Chinese is an adjective for language, which wasn't stated. It could have meant Chinese people, Chinese food, or Chinese tube socks. - miborovsky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Very true
- sexybobo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1there is a difference between True english and what we speak in america. and we say eh and hoser alot less then you in Canadia. do
