- sarazen, on 10/11/2007, -10/+386Sounds like service at McDonald's has really gotten out of hand.
- bremma, on 10/11/2007, -5/+286I can understand being shocked at someone suddenly pointing a foot at me to get food, but probably once realizing the person didn't have arms, I would have apoligized and given her the food. No need to carry on a fit over it.
- dani8559, on 10/11/2007, -13/+155I don't think this is worth $4 million. Yes, it was wrong of the employee, but this is just such a special exception that McDonald's couldn't possibly be expected to train its employees to watch out for. They should fire the woman at the window and settle for a small amount to keep their image.
And yes, it pains me to defend McDonald's - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+136Sadly, the customer still had to foot the bill.
- sjbdallas, on 10/11/2007, -6/+112Did anyone watch the video? I was a little unnerved myself at her feet popping out of the window, but I agree that the McDonald's employee was way out of line if her behavior was really as described.
Also, the lawyer is hot. - TehSwat, on 10/11/2007, -5/+106Shes adapted so much from her disability, it's a shame people are making it harder for her to live her life as normally as possible.
That's some damn skills with her feet though. - Archon810, on 10/11/2007, -4/+92That is hands down the weirdest story I've read today.
- mal1964, on 10/11/2007, -7/+94No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service
- Asianwaste, on 10/11/2007, -3/+88You think she'd get a kick out of these jokes?
- Mouser58907, on 10/11/2007, -6/+80She was asking for no special accommodations,
just 4 milion dollars, is that too much to ask? - purrp, on 10/11/2007, -5/+72Oh come on.
I hate defending McDonald's, but that title could just as well read "Minimum-wage fast-food worker reacts badly to woman with no hands. McDonald's in no way makes a corporate decision not to serve people with no hands."
But that's a sucky headline and wouldn't get any diggs. - thenewkasanova, on 10/11/2007, -6/+69Actually, no, he didn't.
- bysin, on 10/11/2007, -13/+68I've had some bad service at McDonalds before, where do I pick up my $4 million check?
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -8/+62Da-da-tshh.
- hcnelson, on 10/11/2007, -2/+52No, I have the phrase "I have no arms and one foot." always on my clipboard as I have to type it so often.
- terrenceisdaman, on 10/11/2007, -9/+58Did you just use the words think and McDonald's employee in the same sentence?
- robdowns, on 10/11/2007, -4/+53if i was the driver, i would have put my foot down. there is trouble afoot.
- Asianwaste, on 10/11/2007, -1/+50She's a prosecutie
- jobenly, on 10/11/2007, -1/+46You'd think someone who works for the Golden Arches wouldn't be opposed to foot service.
- jobenly, on 10/11/2007, -7/+52I don't want to be the jerk to bring it up, but does it concern anyone else that she's driving around without any arms? What happens if there's an emergency and her power steering goes out? I want her to be able to get around on her own, but I wonder how safe it is for her to drive an unmodified car with her feet.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+40When I worked at McDonald's, I would zone-out so much that I wouldn't have noticed if she was missing a head.
- capiCrimm, on 10/11/2007, -4/+40DIGGNITY?
- theradical, on 10/11/2007, -6/+42Am I the only one who is wondering how this woman was going to eat the damn hamburger after she got it?
- chaddhatcher, on 10/11/2007, -5/+38I have to hand it to her. She has a lot of courage. But really does she have a leg to stand on with that lawsuit?
- CapeKid, on 10/11/2007, -3/+36Well, at least they weren't looking for a handout.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+40$4 million is absurd. I feel bad for the woman, she deserved better treatment, but she doesn't deserve a huge settlement.
- CyberSmackdown, on 10/11/2007, -3/+34They at least should have given her a Handburger.
- hcnelson, on 10/11/2007, -4/+34She's not stronger than me. I have no arms and one foot. And I type 14 words per minute.
- tehmonker, on 10/11/2007, -2/+30I, being a swing manager at a McDonalds, am not surprised that this would happen. Lets be honest here, we have mostly "special" working there. Yes, there are a few good workers, but the majority have no common sense and dont want to do jack ***** above what they need to do to get their minimum wage. Working at McDonalds is not hard! Just apply some common sense and be polite to customers and you'll move up the ranks quickly, but apparently thats too hard for most...
- tehpwnrate, on 10/11/2007, -11/+39Yeah, but what if they give her the food and she somehow hurts herself? McDonalds is already nervous because they got sued by a woman who spilled her own coffee on herself.
Meh, I'd have given her the food. I'm just playing devil's advocate. Sounds like that wasn't the issue here. Still, 4 million is excessive. How about $500 and a free Flurry? - Phatlip012, on 10/11/2007, -5/+33What if the lady working at McDonalds had a foot phobia? You know...like the people afraid of pickles on Maury. What if that was her "disability". Tough call...
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -13/+40People would do anything to make a quick buck now. There is no justification for a lawsuit here.
- 1337zork, on 10/11/2007, -7/+34Its not like that is McDonalds fault, its an incompetent worker >_
- andy101, on 10/11/2007, -9/+32I think we can all agree, the money is within her reach, too bad she can't grasp the concept of forgiving the ignorant.
- waza8501, on 10/11/2007, -5/+28my friend at work has the same condition which left her without any hands and she works as hard as anyone i know and is stronger than any of us because of it.
- superyounan1, on 10/11/2007, -6/+25if she passed her driving exam, then she has as much right to drive as you, and its extremely poor taste and arrogant of you to think you know more about her abilities than she does or the driver and motor vehicle department.
and why aren't restaurant employees paid enough to deal with strange stuff like that? Its not like she asked the McMoron to do a song and dance for her, all she had to do is reach her hand out and give her the bag of food she paid for, just as she does for every other customer she served before her. What if someone came in with a voice box? or with a seeing eye dog? How much do you have to pay your employees to have them "deal" with that?
So while i think you're wrong on just about everything, i do agree that she isn't entitled to 4 million dollars, thats just ridiculous. She's probably just trying to shake McDonalds down until they settle to avoid an embarrassment and public relations issue. - Asianwaste, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20Wait Wait wait wait... hold the phone here folks... This lady drives with her ***** feet!!! Holy ***** *****!
- peacebyanymeans, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22It clearly says in the article that this happened to her twice. At two different McDonald restaurants. Did you guys skim over that part or just watch the badly edited video?
"The restaurant offered her a $10 gift certificate. She then contacted a lawyer and two months later experienced the same thing at a different Rockford McDonald's." - mrASSMAN, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20So that comment took you 1.5 minutes to write?
- soccerman90, on 10/23/2007, -1/+18there is trouble afoot at the golden arches
- leetdood, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18Did you ever put a baggie of weed in a happy meal?
- theradical, on 10/11/2007, -5/+22I agree, 4 million seems an incredibly arbitrary figure. I mean, if you walk around long enough doing everything with your feet eventually someone is going to be freaked out. You can't sue them all, can you?
- Shando, on 10/11/2007, -4/+214 Million is a bit ***** greedy
- superyounan1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21I would be angry too... but sue for FOUR MILLION DOLLARS?
I don't have any disabilities, so maybe i should shut up... but I have been discriminated against before, and I never attached blame for it on entire corporations, just on the ignoramus person that did it. Sounds like she is asking for special treatment if she wants to blame all of McDonalds for the one employee, and trying to get $4million because of a ruined lunch break sounds like she's capitalizing on her own disability. - CDoug03, on 10/11/2007, -15/+30I think the real question is, why is someone with no hands driving a car and would it be legal for her to talk on her cellphone while driving....?
- CDoug03, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16I wonder what the premium is on her car insurance?
- WilliamDavis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15"However sad her situation is, having no arms is not a race."
If it were a race, she'd be using her feet. She'd probably win since she's good with her feet and doesn't have bulky hands to carry around. - carabear, on 10/11/2007, -28/+43I have worked at McDonald's, and I have trained thousands of crew as well as managers. In my experience, the employees are very rigid about following certain rules. When they are meet with a situation that is new to them, they do not know exactly how to react and deal with it. This woman should not be driving, I'm sorry the use of legs as hands is not quite natural and her reflexes cannot be as good as someone with hands. This makes her a danger. I worked at a store with a guy who would shake awfully that drove every day to the store and came through drive thru because he couldn't walk in the store! People like this have NO NO NO business driving! They are endangering the lives of everyone around them.
Aside from that the employees at these restaurants really aren't paid enough to deal with strange stuff like this and be threatened with losing their job if someone's fries aren't crispy enough for them. Ok I'm done ranting, but I'm so tired of disabled people acting like they are special, she is not special and is not entitled to 4 million dollars because she wasn't able to eat McDonald's, besides it's bad for her anyways. - psiDevil98, on 10/11/2007, -7/+22Okay, so you make McDonalds donate the money to charity or spend it on employee training or something. Not take it for yourself.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18The woman also contributed to her situation by placing a hot beverage between her legs while in an automobile. A perfect marriage of stupidity and corporate cluelessess.
