- rolypolypanda, on 10/12/2007, -5/+214str3ama> I don't think they want you reading much of anything.. Just eat the fries.
- macaddct1984, on 10/12/2007, -13/+189im in ur newz, frying your text
- davidsmero, on 10/12/2007, -5/+117mmmm.... delicious paper
- cyclonesworld, on 10/12/2007, -26/+83McDonalds fries are delicious
- serend, on 10/12/2007, -5/+62Lard? Beef flavor? You need to put the crack pipe down guys. They use vegetable oil. How do I know, well being a manager I make an order for 100 pounds a week average.
- greyfedora, on 10/12/2007, -3/+57A lot of the most creative ads that show up on the Internet never run -- they were either created to win awards or they're by students. I have diffficulty imagining that the Globe would allow most of its comment page to appear in yellow ink, so I'm guessing it's spec work. Still, nice idea.
- synapticcleft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+45This ad won a contest held by the Globe and Mail for most creative ad in a newspaper. The prize was free advertising space in the Globe. The page the ad appears is not part of the newspaper, the whole page is the ad (in other words, the ad is not covering over any real stories).
- cyberpope, on 10/12/2007, -22/+64It's not that functional of an ad I think, nice to see more thinking out of the box though.
- Guard, on 10/12/2007, -14/+54This would be horrible to read for people that actually want to see the article, and probably distracting. The newspaper better have gotten a good amount of money for it, since it basically just distracts away from the stories they write.
- Eljefedeath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39No, they don't. Bad parents who feed their kids happy meals 6 times a week do.
Let's bring back personal responsibility! - ifire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29McDonalds doesn't give diabetes to children... irresponsible parents who refuse to feed thier children properly do.
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29The book Fast Food Nation says McDonalds used to use beef tallow to cook their fries, but switched to vegetable oil many years ago because it is cheaper, healthier, and vegetarian-friendly. That's about the only positive thing the book says about McDonalds.
- ChronicColonic, on 10/12/2007, -13/+38Nice ad...that would only be effective if anyone read newspapers.
- nasalexportbeta, on 10/12/2007, -10/+34how intrusive. Get that ***** out of my news!
- macaddct1984, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Yeah, they switched to vegetable oil a while ago when there was a big outrage from the Hindu community (I think) about using animal fats in the fryers.
- JDWTC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21This is from Canada's Globe and Mail Newspaper... anyone know what day/week?
- sprintmarathon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25journalistic integrity at it's most transparent.
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24Arby's curly fries!
- allaboutdatiki, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25mmm ... forbidden transfats glllll ....
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23BK Fries superior? Just tell me what the hell they're coating them with; they feel like potato-flavored M&M's.
- dsignr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19@jdwtc
A bit harsh on the criticism, are we? I just said that the articles aren't real. The text is clearly cut off. Why would a newspaper blatantly remove text from an editorial piece? The articles could be duplicates of a previous page in the newspaper. McDonald's would pay for the duplicate page, add an overlay, and add a different ink color. - BinaryFragger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Yep, and PlayStations transform kids into school shooters, Coca-Cola make kids hyper and Dell makes them script kiddies.
Your comment makes you sound like a lawyer (same law school as Jack Thompson?). - macaddct1984, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Or maybe not, I'm confused now :(
"In 2002, vegetarian groups, largely Hindu, successfully sued and won against McDonald's for misrepresenting their French fries as vegetarian.Even after the discontinuation of frying the French fries in beef tallow in 1990, the French fries still had beef extract added to them. The French fries sold in the U.S. still contain beef and animal flavoring. McDonald's biscuits also contain beef flavoring along with animal flavoring."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonalds#Criticism - Eljefedeath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Finally, non-retarded diggers. Good call.
- akilleen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15This is the equivalent of those annoying flash ads that pop over the text on news articles online. If I got that newspaper I would cancel my subscription.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Just to clear something up: they use vegetable oil to cook the fries, but the fries are still stored and prepared in animal oil. Pretty deceiving, actually.
- kvigneau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I think the whole page is meant to be the ad and that the articles are just mock ups. The fry box cuts off the text. I don't think its intended to be read.
- bills534, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14@Dumbledorito
"BK Fries superior? Just tell me what the hell they're coating them with; they feel like potato-flavored M&M's."
mmmmmmmmmm candy coated fries. - WiZZLa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Reminds me of the Cingular ad campaign or this one (from a Toronto radio station, if you can see the "hidden" message) ->
http://www.glowfoto.com/static_image/22-081622L/5583/gif/02/2007/img4/glowfoto - CEMolleur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I would like to see them redo that ad with curly fries
- spvaland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12@jdwtc
When you call someone an idiot for a slight misunderstanding of fact, you're being a dick, so I just wanted you to know that you're being a dick. - pwallroth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13....must eat french fries
- JDWTC, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12@instntkrma
Nope, the articles are real, but they aren't articles -- they are opinion pieces on the back page. I get the newspaper. - ray901, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13@Drumrboy
"Burger King Fries > McDonalds Fries
but...
checkers fries > all..."
...and they dugg you down - philistines.
You know your fries. - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Try reading the article instead of looking down your blouse.
- Eljefedeath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Um, I was under the impression that Digg was for whatever Diggers wanted to put on it. Quit trying to censor us, you tyrant!
- ray901, on 10/12/2007, -20/+27I digg anyone down who uses any derivation of the term "Thinking outside the box".
There is no ***** box! - there I said it...... - threemonkeydust, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I was thinking exactly that.
If I ever need an example of advertisers influencing the editorial for Uni, I now have a direct image I can show!
is there a reference for this JPEG? (ie. what paper / date / page?)
There should ALWAYS be a distinction between editorial and ads, so for that reason I find this advert
really abhorrent. (that and orange on white is never a winner) - FearlessFreep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7for about ten minutes while they are hot...and then they turn to a cold, greasy mass of....something sorta like potato puree I guess
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's getting tiresome to see naysayers claiming everything is photoshopped. Post a JPG of your photoshop replica and we'll start believing you.
In the mean time, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor - sonochamp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Now if only people still read newspapers....
Internet FTW! - jmreid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Ya, Jim from Canada saw it. I think Sally did too.
So there you go, proof. - HotMovies, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Integrating the ad is a fantastic idea, unfortunately I'd rather eat the paper than the trans fat.
- Eljefedeath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The sky is blue.
Water is wet.
Women are crazy.
We're playing the obvious statement game, right? - mikepictor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6They cook them in vegetable oil, but they pre-treat them before shipping with beef lard. There was a big stink made not long ago about how they claimed to be vegetarian, until someone learned about that pre-treatment.
- eliotmat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I just tried to reach inside my monitor to eat the fries. I'm a fatty.
- FrankieBallz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5umm no, last i checked there were only 2 of them not 6, and they were white not yellow. Not every vertical column is the twin towers.
- noisician, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5BK fries are coated with extra starch (starch is already in potatoes anyway... they just add more)
this is what makes them extra crispy -
