i-maide-u-an-rkive-but-i-eated-it.jpg - MidnightPlat, on 11/17/2007, -0/+0I could well be a chicken little saying "the sky is falling" out of Marvel's archive before it's even really in place, but the nature of the error in Firefox, that string of Infinite Doctor Stranges? That can't be coincidence and a mechanical fluke. I suppose it's possible, but I've never seen Marvel's quality control be so poor or their servers konk out like this, even when Cap died. I'm pretty sure something malicious, at least antagonistic by a party outside Marvel's afoot.
These discussions and forums you tracked down... Any chance you could post links to them as comments in one of Bostodelphia's postings? I'm sure Cheesesteak would appreciate it. I'm interested in the Archive in itself, but I'm more interested in the possibility that the archive has already been pirated, as some thinly veiled anticipating comments implied would happen when the Archive rollout was announced. I know the blog's put out feelers to some "net culture" and comics discussions, but the blogs barely a few weeks old so sort of unknown. I also think more people should be aware of this story, even if it's mostly speculation. - redvader, on 11/17/2007, -0/+0I still haven't seen much reportage on this. The only other place I've really found anything is in the Newsarama forums where The first half of a relatively short thread is people arguing over whether the site works or not (which is especially frustrating because it means some people are getting in) and the second half where people are fixated on whether or not the marvel.com forums work. The very small blip this has made on the interwebs compared to the splash the Digital Archives made just a few days ago makes me think that there is some flukey thing happening to a small amount of people, and thus I don't know if Marvel is even taking it seriously. I've followed through as best as I can as a non-techie on the error message in Firefox which suggest cookies being blocked or fire wall issues. I have deleted my cookies, specifically allowed cookies from marvel.com, and tried four different computers across two different locations. (This was before anyone had posted anything, so I was trying to determine whether it was just me) I'm pretty sure it is on their end but I can't tell them that because I can't get to their customer support page.
- CtheImpaler, on 11/17/2007, -0/+0One can only wonder how this small incident fits into Dr. Strange's larger, cosmic plan. Or maybe the servers over at Marvel were just the first to feel the toothprint of Galactus's dentures, and we'll all be chewed up in your sleep?
Seriously, did the archive just open for business? Account vulnerabilities? It's going on 12 hours now, you'd figure the web masters would have at least put up some sort of "Whoops, be back in 5 minutes while we clean up" message by now. - redvader, on 11/16/2007, -0/+0I've been getting this same wacky redirect all day and there is no mention of it anywhere but this one random blog. Strange. Some might even say it is doctorstrange. However I would say it is doctorstrangedoctorstrangedoctorstrangedoctorstrangesdoctorstrange... And after I plunked down $60 for the digital archive too. Why hast thou forsaken me, marvel.com?
