- yomamaisfat, on 10/10/2007, -9/+98Dugg because it looks home made by a pothead, but still very true.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -15/+101but, but, but,.. pot puts you at a high risk for schizophrenia, or something!
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -8/+86When I tried marijuana for the first time, my first thought was "Is that what the government is ***** bitching about?" I am not going to say it is completely harmless, but I will say that it is much safer than alcohol and tobacco.
- Cerialthriller, on 10/10/2007, -4/+64i like how caffeine is also more addictive then marijuana
- Jambi, on 10/20/2007, -9/+66Why do you hate our freedom? It's pinko liberal Commie-Nazis like you that make me fear for this country!
-takes a swig of vodka-
I'm sure that you and your "progressive friends" would love nothing more than to turn America into a Commie-loving drug haven, just like Berkeley, where men are forced to marry each other, and women are forced to marry their cats...well I won't stand for it! If you don't love this country the way God made it, get the hell out and go to Canada, where they'll euthanize you and then sell your organs! Keep your vile demon weed away from the American people, and stop bashing alcohol, by the way... it's not addictive at all, it just tastes so good you want to drink some maybe four, five times a day. And anyhow, Jesus drank, so it must be okay. I didn't notice him puffin' on no whacky tobaccy, though. Down with Communism! - NinjaBoy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+53Wow your thoughts were a lot more clear than mine. All i was thinking was "God damn...must....get...to...waffle house" And i ***** hate waffle house.
- Jambi, on 10/10/2007, -3/+41Sarcasm? You're kidding, right? Just last week I saw a Fox News report on a Boston man who slaughtered a whole church full of people after taking a puff of a joint. And even worse, when they caught him he was out back eating a baby sandwich! Marijuana is a menace I tell you! Or are you a baby-eating Commie too? Well, are you?!
- Harrison88, on 10/10/2007, -4/+40It's got a bar graph! It must be true.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+39you're fired
- kurttrail, on 10/10/2007, -2/+34Well I never forgot what I did while doing coke. Can't say the same for alcohol.
- Talphin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30I smoke cigs, I drink coffee, and I used to smoke weed...
You know what the difference between weed and the other 2 were?
The moment I decided to quit weed, I didn't feel like going on a rampage... Not even for a moment. Sure there were times where I thought to myself "self... I sure would like a joint right now...", but it was more reminiscent to the thought "self... I sure would like a backrub right now..."
On the other hand, when I quit smoking, I had thoughts like this: "self... If I don't have a cig RIGHT ***** NOW I WILL BURN SOMEONES ***** HOUSE DOWN AND.... WHY ARE MY HANDS SHAKING??!!!!!!! FTW!!!!!"....
Yeah weed has addictive qualities my ass... - wiebeezy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28What does the term "addicted" mean in this situation? Physically addictive or mentally addictive? Pot's not physically addictive, unlike alcohol and cigarettes where you go through with-drawls and what not, but it is totally mentally addictive. I was a heavy pothead in college and ever since I graduated nearly 3 years ago, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about getting high. Every now and then I have the opportunity to do it when I reunite with the old college buddies and every time that happens, I get obsessed with thinking about how and when can I get high again.
- Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28But that pretty much goes with any sort of pleasure...
- PacoDEmu, on 10/10/2007, -9/+36by schizophrenia do you mean having a good time?
cos that and a good night's sleep is pretty much all that happens - djrisc, on 10/10/2007, -8/+34im a regular smoker, and i also regularly take weeks at a time off from smoking. walk up to your average, triple-bloody mary alcoholic and tell them to pull that off. puh-lease, they would be utterly sick for weeks.
as well, anybody who actually believes marijuana is illegal because it gets you high has been blinded like the rest of the lemmings in this country by the efforts of the big oil companies, and the pharmaceutical companies.
if marijuana were truly *legal* both of those industries would take such a hit that a lot of them would probably go under. welcome to the new world fascist government of the united states. - kurttrail, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23Back in the late 80's when I quit coke, I unconsciously started drinking much more coffee, to the point where I was addicted to it. I quit for 6 months, and have since drink coffee when I want to.
Caffeine is addictive. Marijuana is just a good way to relax. - NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -4/+24If I'm not mistaken, this was based on a study about the addictiveness of nicotine... not Marijuana... but since it shows so well, the true effect of Marijuana, It's frequently used. I have the book "Drug War Facts" btw... Interesting fact book.
- NinjaBoy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21You ever suck dick for weed?
- Woah_G!, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18To avoid extinction, humans need to have sex, eat, and get rest. Marijuana makes me horny, hungry, and tired-- and I'm proud to smoke it
- glacius99, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Clearly we should legalize marijuana.. :|
- bhank21, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15as fascinating as that is, i'm still not giving up my coffee or guiness.
- indorock, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15For that LAST TIME: MARIJUANA IS NOT ADDICTIVE, IT'S HABIT-FORMING.
Sorry for all caps. I just get so frustrated. The only people convinced it's addictive are the ones who never have had any.
Who am I? I've been a moderate to heavy user since i was 15. I'm 30 now. My peak was during my senior years in high school, when i had on average 10 joints every day. That's why I said senior yearS. It's not addictive, but it *does* seriously get in the way of schoolwork.
Just 2 months ago, after 15 years of toking up, I quit cold turkey. Haven't had a single toke since, and I haven't had a single twitch, spasm, or even yearning. Not addictive. Not at all. - dajuggernaut, on 10/10/2007, -11/+24this is by far the most ambiguous graph i have seen in a while.. hmmmm lets compare hamburgers and milk shall we:
Hamburger:
Dependence = 8
Withdrawal = 6
Tolerance = 2
Reinforcement = 15
Intoxication = -4
Milk:
Dependence = 1000
Withdrawal = 1
Tolerance = 2
Reinforcement = 7
Intoxication = 9
utterly pointless graph - timusca, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15"Abba-Zaba, you my only friend..."
- HaMMeReD, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15The internet, next year in color!!!!
oh wait. - lesty420, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16The stereotypes hurt me
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13http://digg.com/health/Marijuana_Does_Not_Cause_Psychosis_Lung_Damage_or_Skin_Cancer
- Jambi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11More like /satire. But drunk works too...speaking of which....
- lansuggs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I think if it's good sarcasm, it is recognizable to most but the dim-witted. A /sarcasm tag is unnecessary unless the post could be interpreted as actually being honest. Post above was absurd enough to make it most certainly sarcasm, especially within the context of Digg. Just like if it's a good joke, the /jk tag is not needed, and actually takes away from it a bit.
/serious - mentalstate, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11umm...i forgot what i was going to type
- bobbyi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Yeah, just like nobody buys tomatoes since you can legally grow them yourself.
- KidVicious, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10I especially enjoy attempting to discern the five shades of gray that were used for the key instead of colors.
- Swift2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Actually, when alcohol was illegal - the "noble" experiment - there was FAR more drinking, and organized crime got involved. Sound familiar?
I think we could go back to the "government liquor store" idea that existed right after repeal. Limited hours, limited amount of alcohol that can be sold at any given time. Same for marijuana. No selling to minors, regulation of how stoner the pot can be, etc. And taxes. It would also be quite possible to make it illegal in public places, or things like that. Regulation. Sending people to jail for weed is insane and counter-productive. - FredoBerfil, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I've quit a heavy, daily caffeine habit, and I've quit a heavy, daily pot habit, and I can say from personal experience caffeine withdrawals are far, far, far more debilitating. Splitting headache, deep depression, extreme fatigue from caffeine withdrawals. Pot "withdrawals"? Well, I was maybe slightly anxious for a day or two, and maybe slept a little more restlessly. But I barely noticed.
- VaporBro, on 10/26/2007, -1/+8I also saw this EXACT comment on another story. It's weird...and I am turning on my Vaporizer.
- Nidis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8God you american's are whipped. You're afraid of your own government. I absolutely hate to draw reference from something 'Michael Moore' here, but the old englishman he interviews in Sicko makes an incredibly valid point. If the government tried to make a decision that was generally hated by the public in most countries, there'd be an outcry. People would kick a fit and demand it doesn't happen. But Americans, who are apparently quite pro-marijuana, don't mind at all to have their personal freedom denied by a government who's clearly just trying to keep you in line so they won't lose their stranglehold of the money-farming cycle. What, you're trying to argue the point back about how its not that bad? We KNOW marijuana isn't the devil, we know the 'scientific evidence' of how bad it is is a bunch of *****, so why take it? It's one unanimous decision you all need to make.
- brycelb, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11Now I can't tell if your joking or out of your mind!
- UglieJosh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Whatever you want to call that, it was brilliant! Jambi should win some sort of "Digger of the Day" award.
- diggitydoc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8dude, a baby sandwich is properly titled a "california cheeseburger"
thank you clancy wiggum. - thegodfaughnder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7That's like saying ice cream is addictive. When I see an ice cream truck, I have this strong mental urge to eat ice cream. I am also overweight ;)
- yargthepirate, on 10/10/2007, -12/+19Line graphs are awesome, particularly when they don't have data accompanying them and suggest that alcohol is worse than cocaine.
- tehbored, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8I think "/drunk" might have been more appropriate.
- ScrewedThePooch, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Withdrawal from alcohol can kill you. Withdrawal from heroin just makes you feel like ***** and vomit.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Don't watch Dune while high, everything becomes clear. FYI Potheads = Navigators of the future.
- Ihavethespeed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7thank you, i was about to rant. but you summed it up perfectly. There addiction in the traditional sense and there just really wanting to do something (like get high)
- Jwoey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7That was a column graph, silly!
- Swift2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Tobacco kills, and makes you sick before it does. Marijuana makes you happy and goofy, doesn't cause cancer, can cause bronchitis if smoked heavily or by a sensitive person. The two are different.
- omnithought, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Inaccurate. A substance that is not at all physically addictive can't be "less addictive" than anything. To say it is less addictive is to say that it is somewhat addictive.
- NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6You're no better than any of the rest of us "AladinSane". -_-
Get over yourself.
Everyone in my family smokes pot, both my parents, me and my brother, his friends, etc... most of us are perfectly normal and perfectly productive members of society with good jobs. =P - corneliusJones, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7yes rberk, though heroin withdrawal is painful, it is no worse than a case of the flu. alcohol withdrawal can actually kill you though. no joke.
