- AKBryant54, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Because there would probably be copyright issues.
- chokeslam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16i'm not trying to be cool, if i was trying to be cool i would drink martinis and snort coke. i just want to get high and listen to music and hack the gibson.
- RedHerringHack, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16It's 420 man. Smoke em if ya got em.
- seenthefuture, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Original link: http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_timeline.php
Also, it looks like the real site supplying this info could use some financial help. - str3ama, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I caught what I thought was one of my profs smoking a giant spliff in one of the corridors of the campus, it was huge..looked like he used a newspaper for zigzags. Plus the guy looks like Cheech...
- azAZ09, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I don't like smoking when I have a cold. I need to go make brownies.
- lordwud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10because they should not be banned in a supposedly free society.
- markmayhew, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10i forgot what I was going to post.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8There does seem to be a lot of articles saying that weed shouldn't be illegal etc. It's not even news, it's obvious.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10The next milestone in 420 history: electing Ron Paul as president. Here's a great article when High Times backed him in 1988: http://www.scribd.com/doc/34107/Ron-Paul-The-Pot-Candidate
- slippeh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Smoking weed makes you cool? No, it doesn't. Maybe you have a stereotype of a stoner in your mind that you need to shed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Most Recent History...
April 21 2007: Lovingdigg rolls a phat blunt and smokes the diggity dank nuggits... then eats fastfood. - Aliarse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It tells me something alright. Some laws are just plain ***** retarded.
And by the way, i hope your sent to prison the next time you jaywalk. After all, it's illegal for a reason, right? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yeah, they're illegal because they're bad, and bad because they're illegal, right? Do you see a problem at all with your little logic trap?
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5for me it's a great stomach settler (after drinking too much craft beer and watching diggnation episodes)
@doctorberen:
http://slashdot.org/articles/99/11/22/1914258.shtml
just the fact that i'm linking to an article i remember from November 1999 on Slashdot, doesn't mean i'm a nerd. that is a geeky thing to do.
nerds smoke wiid. - Ibox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yeah they spent all their money on their Stash.
- lordwud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8i smoke pot use gnu/linux and play wii
@esquareda
wiid is one of the wii mod chips - fivestarsoul, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Do the Digg community a favor and stop posting your worthless comments--can't you take a hint from all the ones that have been buried?
Oh... right... your username explains it all. Continue! At least it gives me something to laugh about. - ZebraCrew, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Yeah it's illegal for a reason. That reason is that some moron convinced congress to make it illegal as an anti-mexcan campaign. Cigarettes and Alcohol have worse effects than weed and yet those are both legal.
- rhinopig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Digg this article until it has 420 diggs, then stop.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Different strokes for different folks. I don't get the people that spend tens of thousands of dollars to climb Everest and risk freezing their toes off, or worse. But hey, whatever flips your switch...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Following that logic, alcohol has no place either then. As an example, alcohol is bad if you're abusing it. But many have the self control to realize this and drink knowing their limits, or merely enjoy a glass of wine with dinner. I think that if society can handle alcohol, then it can probably handle weed. Each to their own, though...
- zappo1776, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Annoying ads for fake buds on this site but otherwise a nice timeline.
- TheAkolyte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Only a real *****-head would call a factual time-lime biased. Let me guess, music, video games, and sex outside of missionary is bad too?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4diggerxtreme sits all day to digg stories like this:
UK schools give up on teaching about Holocaust and Crusades
CAIR Propaganda on PBS
Religion of Peace© beheads Buddhist.
20 Year Old Iranian Woman Analy Raped & Killed By A Baseball Bat In Iran
Empowering "non-violent" Islamists will still lead the West toward the same fate to which the Jihadis are striving.
Ahmadinejad to World: Accept Allah or Expect Death
btw this is only from the first 20 stories he dugg
so how about you get a life instead of sitting all day behind your computer digging negative stories about arabs and muslims. - tech42er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am not a stoner, but I still support marijuana legalization because I don't think the government should take away our rights under th guise of "protecting us" from ourselves.
- mykool, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4FYI - Everything single thing one eats, drinks, or breathes, can be considered a drug. To this end the deadliest drug dealers in the US are McDonalds, Burger King, and TacoBell.
- schroeder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4My girlfriend smokes weed all the time. She's graduating college and works really hard and will have a good job when she finishes. Same with all her friends.
I dropped out of college twice and spend all my time playing video games and on digg. I have a job occasionally. I don't smoke weed.
People are who they are, don't blame weed for their shortcomings. - TheAkolyte, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6one article on 420 and we're "fixated" on weed? Please.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6wow it is amazing how much influence did arabs/muslims had on majiuana
awesome - Phrag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Probably after the government's pot prohibtion 'douchbaggery' ends.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Someone should've had a screen shot of 420 diggs.
- Phrag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its not diggers being fixated on weed. Its that marijuana legalization is a more popular topic than it used to be, especially with the start of the fight between states and the feds over medical marijuana. Stop assuming that everyone who uses digg is a nerd and everyone who supports ending pot prohibition is a pothead. Anyone who lives in America and pays taxes should be against it since it wastes a lot of your money that could be going to making your life genuinely better and safer.
- Phrag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2littlegreenfootballs is that way >
- Phrag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You keep insinuating that people who use pot are lazy. Have you ever tried gorwing it? Its not something you can do with 'no effort'. Not only that but, after the work of growing it is done, plently of people use it and still maintain productive lives. A few even reach a level of producion that most people, pot users or not, never will. Ever hear of a couple of guys named Cheech and Chong? They made a pretty nice living by acting out the stereotypes that you beleive. They use or used marijuana frequently yet still made several hit acts, albums and movies. How many albums and movies have you been in recently?
"Remember, It has been made illegal and IS illegal in a LOT more places than America, so that should at least tell you something..."
Yeah. It tells me that the US has too much influence on the UN and vetos any attempt they make at reforming the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs like they did in 2005. - asisin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This post focuses on the bud more than the plant itself. I suppose its worth mentioning that every ship that circumnavigated the world in the 15th and 16th centuries had sails made of hemp. More copies of the bible and other books world over were written on hemp paper than anything else. Its uses as an industrial fiber, and in plastics is taking off in europe in a big way. GW pharmaceuticals in the UK is running a virtual monopoly by making drugs based on Marijuana that work. Marijuana is the only known remedy to the AIDS wasting disease, and the 'munchies' keeps appetites alive for patients undergoing chemotherapy. Hemp seed oil is one of the few foods that have omega-3 fatty acids. Glaucoma, relieving high BP...etc etc...the list goes on. Theres absolutely no excuse for cutting down majestic trees for paper, when we can easily grow hemp.
As for me, the law can go screw itself. The positives far outnumber any negatives (since I've switched to a vapourizer, I can't think of a single negative!).
Whats dying these days is peoples urge to question long standing beliefs. Thats how humanity has taken steps forward. If you're assuming that some law passed by a few men wearing suits who are long dead now, is for your good...you're sadly mistaken. The govt. (urged by the tobacco lobby) continues to spend millions on propagation of false information (search on digg). The law was passed by people like George Bush...now ask yourself, would you trust Bush if he decided whats good for you?
You may have a very good reason for not smoking pot, doesn't mean u denigrate people who do. - Phrag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Believe what you want but, people against the prohibition of marijuana are not the ones who have spent decades and billions of dollars spreading lies like:
“Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men”
— Federal Bureau of Narcotics Chief Harry J. Anslinger
“Marijuana is a gateway drug, if you smoke pot you will become a heroin addict”
— Former President Ronald Reagan
“Permanent brain damage is one of the inevitable results of the use of marijuana.”
— Former President Ronald Reagan
“Marijuana leads to homosexuality… and therefore to AIDS.”
— White House Drug Czar Carlton Turner
“You know, it’s a funny thing, every one of the bastards that are out for legalizing marijuana is Jewish.”
— Former President Nixon
“When I was in England, I experimented with marijuana a time or two, and I didn’t like it. I didn’t inhale and never tried it again.”
— Former President Bill Clinton
“I wouldn't answer the marijuana question ... 'cause I don't want some little kid doing what I tried.”
— Current President George Bush - kidd3ckz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Smoking pot helps some geeks cope with being geeks.
But yeah, stoner's diggs should count as 1/2 cuz i kinda get outta control when I'm stoned when it comes to commenting and burying. Very emotional clicker. - ellecon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can't believe they neglected to mention the infamous "BC bud". Pot is everywhere here...I've even seen uniformed cops sharing a joint.
Human beings have been trying to alter their perceptions with chemical substances ever since we found out we were able to do so. Created in a lab or growing on a bush, it's still a drug. Pharmaceutical companies just have better press (due to a powerful and wealthy lobby group). - Gullop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Oct 23, 2001 Britain's Home Secretary, David Blunkett, proposes relaxing the classification of cannabis from a class B to class C. As of June 10, 2002, this has not taken effect."
Erm yes it has. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3 DiggerXtreme....trying digging for a life diggerXtreme...moron..
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wiid ftw
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5All hail the almighty weed......
- shawnbttu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Funny how everything comes back full circle:
Marijuana used as medicine --> Years of Disinformation by Bureaucrats --> Rallies + Protests --> Marijuana used as medicine
Man Im stoned... - inactive, on 12/26/2008, -0/+1Newspaper/corporate media bias prevents the information from being there. Digg's less controlled, and therefore less biased, so we see lots of stories about an idea that might save a ***** of tax money if people FINALLY got a clue. Consider these repeated cannabis stories a 2 by 4 clue "upside the haid."
- ne0shell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2As much as I might support legalization of pot - isn't the constant stream of legal pot articles on Digg also known as "preaching to the choir"? Maybe if the pot party put as much effort into getting press in newspapers and corporate media they'd actually make some sort of progress?
- zdiggler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow.. i'm susprise somebody remember records those thing. I don't remember my history of smoking that stuff.
- toppgun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3but copyright laws have never stopped us geeks before
- ripe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Someone should add those dates to http://www.everytimeline.com
- xchino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@duhstupid
If you think playing video games and choice of operating system makes you cool you have got to be the lamest dork in nerdtown. -
