- tippmann1, on 10/12/2007, -20/+256this teaches us a very important lesson, always make sure she puts out before marriage.
- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -9/+195Did she seriously expect him to stay with her if she refused to have sex indefinitely? Here's a tip, if you want to stay married, don't be a frigid bitch.
- statusmalus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+165That's 300,000 New Taiwan Dollars, which is a little over 9000 US Dollars.
- mv10, on 10/12/2007, -5/+156Must do wonders for your self confidence knowing your wife rather give up $300,000 than sleep with you.
- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -13/+101Hilary Clinton...prepare to pay up!
- maeon3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+83she refused to consummate the marriage on the wedding night because she was too tired and was ill. But the judge said it was strange for Lin to refuse to consummate the marriage for one year, so he granted the divorce...
- seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -3/+59This is the dumbest comment thread I've ever read.. Do stupid people follow eachother around on Digg or something? Cause they always come in lump sums.
- Labradane, on 10/12/2007, -6/+51That is the exact opposite of what usually happens with a divorce
- GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+46This guy got paid for not having sex.
- Aeiri, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37If the marriage isn't consummated, you can't get a divorce (in America, at least), you get an annulment.
- StealthGod, on 10/12/2007, -7/+35You can buy an apartment there for $9000!? Holy crap that's cheap.
Must be missing something there. - monkeyrun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30"compensate Chen NT$300,000 for buying an apartment, giving Lin's family a dowry and losing face because she did not consummate the marriage."
I wonder what does the Chen's family do in their spare time.
ABC: Oh, Mrs Chen, I hear that your son just got married.
Mrs Chen: Yeah, his wife refuses to do him.
ABC: HA HA *nelson style*.
Mrs Chen: *lose face* :( .
Next conversation
ABC: Oh, Mrs Chen, I hear that your son just got divorced.
Mrs Chen: Yeah, that b!tch is paying us 300 grand muahahaha.
ABC: lol, she rather pay your son 300 grand then to sleep with him?
Mrs Chen: *lose face* :( . - captainpete, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24This guy was determined to stick it to her, one way or another.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23The GDP Per Capita of Taiwan is about half that of the US.
So its worth about $18,000. Which is not exactly chump change.
But then this is because people in Taiwan (and the rest of Asia) are very conservative. You don't see that much kissing on TV even in daytime drama's etc.
Only the young kids hold hands and hugging is a sign of affection, in a relationship, which is different from America where you can hug your colleague or friends you haven't seen in a while. There is also little or no sex education in Asia that matches what we have in the USA. That is why you get anomalies, like you might go to a club (which is great, $20 USD and unlimited BEER!) and due to the tropical heat of Taiwan all the girls wear bikini tops and short skirts. Thing is... half are probably virgins. - Markie1006, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Spoken like a true virgin
- ersatzphi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Take it easy guys the mans just joking around. Lighten up!
- dopyoman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Looks like we have a bunch of women digging you guys down.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -22/+38If your wife won't ***** you, then that's permission to ***** another woman. The end!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17But isn't that normally what happens when you marry someone? The sex disappears?
- Enjoikr3w, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Its a prude... dude...
- BGFeltenink, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18I hope CA = Canada because you're speaking ***** if you are talking about California. Plenty of people get annulments.
- nocam, on 11/10/2008, -11/+26Actually she said: "You are redicurous!"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13If I got a penny every time that happened to me id have $300,000
- Dave0328, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I was wondering, why would a woman marry a man she wasn't attracted to. Or maybe she was frigid.
My Chinese wife just told me that there is an incredible amount of pressure for women in China (and probably Taiwan also) to get married at around 25 or 26 years old. This pressure might make some women desperate enough to marry a man they didn't love. And, in general (in China), women have no desire to have sex with anyone they don't love.
Then, I wondered why would a man marry a woman that won't kiss, etc.
Once again, my wife told me that many people in China don't even kiss or touch until they are married (and the ones that do, probably wouldn't admit to it). So maybe that's why he would have no clue about her true feelings.
Old traditions and sexual repression just seems so stupid and sad sometimes.
- An Asian-American in China - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+23he should have just snuck up on her when she came out of the shower and get a few strokes in before she can protest
- MonkeyMCSE, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13thats true, in a normal divorce, he'd have definitely gotten screwed one way or another.
- pahoehoe, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16When I read jav's comment my lips and butthole got all tight, and now I'm furiously typing an angry response because..
1.) I can't take a joke
2.) I'm super stuck up
3.) I'm a prude
4.) I feel victimized by every sexual experience I've had
5.) Sex is so offensive
6.) I'm just ashamed
I'm shaking fists now. Very angry. For reals. It's a good thing I can hide behind my monitor, otherwise I'd be causing a lot of stupid drama that doesn't change any outcomes anyway. I'm uber-mature. Peace to the luva's! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12That's why you try it out BEFORE marriage. Who buys a car without taking it for a test drive?
- thegcinfo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Maybe it was just him she didn't want to sleep with. She probably was like oh ***** what was I thinking marrying him.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Also to add, the paper is likely inaccurate, the payment was not to actually BUY an apartment, real estate prices in Taiwan are insane (think 23 million people, more than Australia, living in an area smaller than New Jersey, most in a city no larger than New York City). It was likely just rent.
Besides if I could even buy a half decent apartment for even $1,000,000 NT in Tainan, I would've brought tons of them ages ago. - joeysum, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10She was too shy? Shy people don't "shout: 'you are ridiculous!'"
- iOsiris, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9that's still a lot of money for some.
- kidc, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11I'm failing to see how this is different than any other marriage out there...
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Not always, depends upon the state. The only way that you can get an annulment in CA is either a) discovering you are related or b) mental incapacity. Even if she doesn't put out, you still can't get an annulment.
- dotdan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Even so, I bet she has a better grasp on the English language than you do..
- tastethevenom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Okay, there REALLY needs to be some separation between SLEEPing and *****.
They are not the same thing.
Quit confusing the two. Sleepers. - Reap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yeah, it's a real shame... even the horribly insecure women won't give you the time of day...
I feel for ya.
It's discrimination that you have to be desirable enough to get a date to be rejected on your wedding night! - encognito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Funny, you sound just like the idiots you are trying to mock. Pot meet kettle.
- ngsayjoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yes, only if you have pre-marital sex. Couples in Asia are very conservative, we usually do not have sex before marriage.
- Dave0328, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5LOL
A discriminatory stereotype, but still funny because it's sometimes true.
- An Asian-American in China - pahoehoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3People are afraid to say or hear "*****" or "sex" or "intercourse", so that is why they resort to "sleep". You're right, they're a bunch of sleepers.
- IzeasGT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Some weird kinda meta-self-reference thingy, I guess...
- Boofster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3LOL noobs!
Penis goes into vagina, let me demonstrate. - RunnyBabbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Digg: Only slightly behind /b/ in "bestest advice on the internets."
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3that's whack. but i think things are different in taiwan. i mean, i know that taiwanese young people are still pretty repressed, but it has a polarizing effect where you're either really conservative and goody-goody, or you party in excess. the uptight group probably still outnumbers the other, but it's not so bad in the city.
- Attrition, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Man! If I had to marry someone to get some then... then.... I'd be married :(
- kai05yang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@sungam3d
how many times have u been married? - Myonosken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Haha. How old are you? 12?
- ngsayjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2$9,000 is most probably the down payment for the apartment, not the whole price. We do not buy apartment cash here in Asia. We usually pay 10% for down payment, and loaned the rest!
- toonworld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@BGFeltenink
Last time I checked, CA as in Canada was not a state but a sovereign country. Please don't ever insult us like that again -
