"Leaving in 15 Minutes, Sun and Fun Baby!!!"
"*****, I don't think I locked my front door, should be okay for a week though!"
"Damn! For $20 those Vietnamese hookers will let you do anything with a plastic sheet and a 5 gallon bucket of chilli!"
"WTF!!!!!!! I Just Got home and all My ***** got stolen!!!! Thank God they didn't find my kiddie porn dungeon!!!" - RickS2, on 06/02/2009, -3/+57Did he tweet his home address?
- dupems, on 06/02/2009, -2/+54HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
- FrozenKetchup, on 06/02/2009, -1/+47It's not like people didn't have their house broken while they were on vacation before the creation of twitter. Unless they caught the person and they admitted they used the info on twitter this is not news.
- ethanator1088, on 06/02/2009, -4/+39Another way this could happen:
@Moron: Yep, I'm unpacking the money and computer out of my suitcase. Room 315 Embassy Suites
@Moron: The maid is a guy and he looks suspicious.
@Moron: I was robbed! - algaeturd, on 06/02/2009, -2/+35How ***** hard is it to google search or do a record search if you have a fairly unique name and know the general area?
A ***** 12-year-old could have figured out where he lived likely if he had even a small clue as to the general region. - bigthree, on 06/02/2009, -2/+34you want to feel bad for the guy, but if people know who you are don't announce your home is open for business.
- sgvprelude, on 06/02/2009, -3/+34I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere on Twitter someone is tweeting about the robbery
- inactive, on 06/02/2009, -3/+30Did someone finally find a use for Twitter?
- rwbrinso, on 06/02/2009, -2/+27At some point, some teenager is going to get busted throwing a keg party this way too.
/Dazed and Confused - GoKings, on 06/02/2009, -2/+26Has anybody thought that just maybe he was robbed and he happened to be on vacation and it had nothing to do with twitter or facebook?
- votingprawn, on 06/02/2009, -0/+22How on earth did thieves operate in the days before Twitter? As they clearly use Twitter to track down prospective victims, I mean, there is no chance they saw him packing his car and driving away. Gone are the good old days when thieves had to work for their crime.
I'll be right back, just going to go throw stones at the google maps car that's allowing those nasty crim's to plan how they shall break into my house! - Jhonka, on 06/03/2009, -0/+15Best comment; it's all that needs to be said.
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -1/+14I'm going to africa for a year... [sit in house with rifle]
- chicagojack, on 06/02/2009, -3/+14This guy will be a future Darwin Award winner
- Khast, on 06/02/2009, -3/+13Moral of the story : DON'T TWITTER YOUR ***** LIFE, PEOPLE MAY BE LISTENING.
- asgardshill, on 06/03/2009, -0/+9Sounds like somebody's a little jealous that I'm about to get a cool $35 mil from my good friend Nigerian Prince Mutombo. Check'll be here any day now for real, then it'll be me getting the last laugh.
- asgardshill, on 06/02/2009, -0/+9Thank you.
That, or the 50 people who overheard him brag to them personally that he was going on vacation. Or the 4 days worth of un-picked up newspapers on his front stoop. Or his vehicle not being parked in his driveway for 4 days ... - Nowheredan, on 06/02/2009, -1/+9Thank you for beating me to that comment - I was starting to lose faith that people knew the difference between correlation and causation. Until there's proof, this is no different from someone committing a murder and some idiot blaming it on a videogame the murderer played the previous day.
- Charlotte_Web, on 06/03/2009, -0/+7He might have well have tweeted his home address. He has a twitter account using his real name and he told 2,000 strangers that he was on vacation.
- inactive, on 06/02/2009, -4/+11What an idiot..he deserved it.
- MasterInsan0, on 06/02/2009, -0/+7Yes, actually, somebody has thought of that. In fact, at least two people above you did on *this very site*.
- ban1d0, on 06/02/2009, -1/+7Am I the only person that doesn't use twitter/facebook/myspace and all that crap? People could call me anti-social, but I don't feel like flaunting my life to everyone on the internet.
- algaeturd, on 06/02/2009, -1/+7He's not totally nuts. I don't think he's nuts at all. I think he's just a typical twitter user: self-absorbed, irrational, ego-masturbating at all times and too busy worrying about his (ahem) 'audience' to think about the consequences of being a public moron.
- Stupendous, on 06/03/2009, -0/+5It's easy if the person is a homeowner in AZ.
Visit county assessor web site
http://www.maricopa.gov/Assessor/ParcelApplication ...
Search for his last name. Look for his first name in the results and you'll see there is only one. You have his address now.
And if you want go to the county recorder web site to find out his home loan status
http://recorder.maricopa.gov/recdocdata/GetRecData ...
If you search for his name you'll see he used a 80/20 loan to buy his home. In 2005 he took out a ~$51K HELOC.
Be careful what you post on the Internet. - asgardshill, on 06/02/2009, -0/+4Yet another reason why you should let a trustworthy friend housesit for you while you're away. Most people will think they're well-paid for the task if you leave a case of beer in the fridge for them while you're gone and tell them where your 5 TB of porn AVIs can be located. Cheaper than ADT or Brinks.
- BillE3, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4Before twitter and even now, they just walk up to your house try the doors and check the windows. If they see something they want and can no get through the door or windows, then they break a window and get in. Nothing new about B & E, telling the world you are going to be gone is kinda new.
- WillFight4Beer, on 06/03/2009, -1/+5Gonna have to bury this one, correlation != causation. No reason to think that this had anything to do with twitter.
Unless someone has some data that shows people on twitter are more likely to get broken in to than people who aren't while on vacation, why the ***** would you think the two are linked? - diggduggDOOM, on 06/02/2009, -0/+4Are you cool, man?
- SkippyDoorknob, on 06/02/2009, -2/+6You should just be using email then
- tyne101101, on 06/02/2009, -2/+6He is totally nuts. A good reason why you should not tell anyone where you are at all times.
- JoeF8577, on 06/02/2009, -0/+4Hopefully he wasn't that stupid.
If he did not that would narrow the suspects down to someone whom he knew. - AtomicPC, on 06/02/2009, -1/+4I'm surprised no one saw this coming but me... :) Seriously though it was only a matter of time, I mean there are still people sending Nigerians money for crying out loud.
@iamatomic - inactive, on 06/02/2009, -0/+3This is why I don't post trips online till after I get back. I only let the friends I trust and my family when I'll be going.
- Sirocco, on 06/03/2009, -1/+4"Social media". Please take note of the first word.
If you want security, stick to email, or some other point to point communication method. - ezkils, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3It could have been someone he knew that robbed him. He probably just said he's going on vacation and the robbers knew where he lived already.
- antdude, on 06/03/2009, -1/+4Busted for the kiddie porn dungeon! :P
- 0tis, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3Somewhere, a Nigerian prince can't understand why nobody will help him.
- tyne101101, on 06/02/2009, -0/+3Maybe he did. That's what happens when you don't want to share as much such as your phone #, home address, etc. You don't know who is viewing on your website.
- jitterbits, on 06/03/2009, -0/+3What are you talking about? I always get notified if someone new is following me.
- SirOutrageous, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2Unbelievable. Just one of many examples of why social media is sometimes a problem for sharing too much about your personal matters.
- GalacticRerun, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2local_burglar is now following your updates on twitter!
Click here to see local_burglar's profile. - NoLibertarians, on 06/04/2009, -1/+3Caferrell?
- 5celery, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2The family has a networking fueled set of internet businesses - the 'needy, desperate, self-serving ways' you are referring to are actually video tutorial jobs that put food on their table.
- TitoBob, on 06/02/2009, -1/+3Maybe the robber will be just as stupid and tweet that they just robbed some idiot's house.
- fungie5, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2When you tweet that you arrived in Africa, they'll figure out that you never left...
- objectcode, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow.
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2Gone are the days the shady man walked past your house every 10 minutes..
- objectcode, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2I'll be sure to keep that in mind for future reference, snober.
- dshortey, on 06/03/2009, -0/+2I think this might inform would be criminals more than anything else. Writing about this unfortunate phenomena in crime is informative but describing how it could be done, like with the whois lookup tidbit is a bit to much information.
The age of information is starting to make me be a hermit...again. First it was the threat of identity theft, now crap like this. -
