- wastedlife, on 02/03/2008, -12/+228loaves*
sorry, it bugged me - inactive, on 02/03/2008, -18/+212Never mind the three previous crimes committed by this man.
- TomTruelle, on 02/03/2008, -6/+120I just loves my bread...
- elusiveqc, on 02/03/2008, -18/+126I was offended when I first read the headline but then I actually watched and listened to the entire video. Can tell by the comments that most of you didn't actually watch the video. Hmm too many offenses to transmit? He'd already been let off on his last 'third strike', he's not a toddler, you shouldn't have to keep warning him and then letting him slide. He knew that he could go to prison for life if he committed an offense - apparently he decided that a pack of donuts was worth the risk, that was his choice. His own brother even said he's a drug addict. Seems to me that he's already been given enough chances and he's old enough to know the consequences.
- sexybobo, on 02/03/2008, -13/+113He assaulted the store owner who tried to stop him from stealing the donuts. He is not in trouble for stealing the donuts i believe they even dropped the donut charge. It just makes better news for them to say he is going to jail for stealing donuts instead of a twice convicted felon assaulted some one and is going back to jail.
- inactive, on 02/03/2008, -16/+93Given that he knew about three strike law, why did he steal the donuts?
- MiltonWaddams, on 02/03/2008, -7/+80According to the video it's actually his 4th strike. His third robbery was already ignored because they didn't want to put him away for life. Boo hoo hoo.
- Ajajadude, on 02/03/2008, -8/+61Plus the times he wasn't caught.
- chase001, on 02/03/2008, -6/+57It would bug any spell check princess. Forgiven.
- m3mn0n, on 02/03/2008, -1/+45Or the previous third strike they let slide.
- dopefish, on 02/03/2008, -1/+43STOP BREAKING THE LAW, *****!
/jim carrey - XNihil0Zer0, on 02/03/2008, -14/+50A cop died of low blood sugar because this man stole the last pack! Give him the death penalty.
- azkid, on 02/03/2008, -4/+39yeah. but its not worth 77 years
- treelovinhippie, on 02/03/2008, -10/+42Did anyone know that in southern NSW, Australia (4 hours south of Sydney)... many of the court judges won't even look at a criminal case involving an Aboriginal unless it is their 3rd offense. Don't believe me? Research it.
- Chompy, on 02/03/2008, -1/+32Indeed, smartass007.
- sexybobo, on 02/03/2008, -8/+36He assaulted the store owner who tried to stop him from stealing the donuts. He is not in trouble for stealing the donuts i believe they even dropped the donut charge. It just makes better news for them to say he is going to jail for stealing donuts instead of a twice convicted felon assaulted some one and is going back to jail.
- inactive, on 02/03/2008, -6/+32Then how could they get the first two offenses convictions?
- atgmac, on 02/03/2008, -5/+31How do they know if they committed the offense or not without a trial then? Dumbass.
- kufu91, on 02/03/2008, -1/+23i guess this is the one situation where you would need documentation to prove that you bought a donut.
- Tiak, on 02/03/2008, -2/+22I believe you're mistaking this case with another one where a man got 30 years for stealing a donut coupled with assault in Misouri under a completely different law.
That guy's name was Scott Masters:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,299980,00.html
I can find no reference that would suggest Robert Fassbender is going away for anything but theft. And even if he were, ANY three felonies puts you away for life in California, regardless of what they were this time... This is a bit ***** up. - kalleanka, on 02/03/2008, -10/+30The problem here is the law.
One shouldn't make exceptions to laws once now and then, but one should make sure laws are not this ***** up.
The law could say "3 violent crimes" or something like that, not just any 3 crimes.
he deserves to get in prison a day or so, but for his entire life just because a stupid law that didn't take this kind of situations in consideration when the law was written? Ridiculous. - Phil8, on 02/03/2008, -7/+25I love lamp.
- Chompy, on 02/03/2008, -1/+19You seem to have forgotten (or fail to understand) that this is his *third* strike. This isn't just some regular dude, this is a career criminal. The last time he got *caught* was in 1999, and at that time they gave him a break and called it a misdemeanor so that he wouldn't get third striked. And yet here we are again.
This isn't about donuts, it's about a pattern of behavior. - Spudster, on 02/03/2008, -3/+20Yeah it's real logical to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to house a convict in order to prevent him from stealing more donuts as his family suffers. Real logical alright.
- Elliuotatar, on 02/03/2008, -14/+31Do you even grasp how long a life sentance is? Imagine if you were locked up in prison for just five years away from your loved ones. And for what? A minor crime like a non-violent theft?
While I might support such a law for violent offenders, depending on just how violent a crime we're talking, and the circumstances behind said crime, putting people in jail for life for stealing isn't justice. It's insane. And if you need more justification for abiloishing it because you're an *****, then how about considering how much more it will cost you as a taxpayer to put these guys in prison for life than they would have stolen each year.
People who steal millions of dollars from taxpayers through backdoor dealings like say, Cheney, get no, or very little time, but people who steal little ***** get lots of time. That's not right. That's classism. The rich get off easy, the poor and uneducated get thrown into prison for stealing from the wealthy. - c5kirk, on 02/03/2008, -1/+17Phil8, are you just looking at things in the office and saying that you love them?
- inactive, on 02/03/2008, -2/+18Yeah of course he did. I'm pretty sure he was spouting a similar line on the other occasions he was convicted...
- iofthestorm, on 02/04/2008, -1/+16I really love people who correct other people's semantics.
- dbug, on 02/03/2008, -0/+15Good point. Let's just send him to Australia... problem solved :)
- gudnbluts, on 02/03/2008, -0/+15The video doesn't make it clear what kind of doughnuts. How can we judge if they warrant a life sentence if we don't even know if they were iced?
- SpikeyFreak, on 02/03/2008, -9/+23Or the fact that he assaulted the store owner.
- postitnote, on 02/03/2008, -5/+19I really loave people who correct other people's grammar.
- sfacets, on 02/03/2008, -3/+17Reminds me of England some 300 years ago, when they sent people to Australia for stealing bread.
- TylerM, on 02/03/2008, -1/+15Dude I looked at your profile and comments.
Half of them deal with sodomizing. What the heck. - KokomoNYC, on 02/03/2008, -5/+19Stealing a pack of donuts is a felony???
- sTiKyt, on 02/03/2008, -21/+34Its hard to believe that when a man is about to be imprisoned for the rest of his life for stealing a pack of donuts all you can think about is 'how much it will cost the taxpayers.' Do you even have one ounce of sympathy. Its no wonder you guys are so against socialized health care when all you think about is yourself and how much it will cost the taxpayer.
- crushfan, on 02/03/2008, -14/+27Well, even as a person whose car and HDTV (which was purchased two weeks ago, barely used) got stolen 5 days ago and full of hatred to the thieves, I find it simply inhuman.
- BryanJK, on 02/03/2008, -4/+16i love turtles
- brizzad2, on 02/03/2008, -7/+19Thank you for your wonderful comment, JackDonaghy. It appears that you too add nothing to society, should you be dead as well?
- xaeon, on 02/03/2008, -0/+11By who, the magical donut fairy? She turned up, threw a fifty at the counter, and disappeared? How can he possible think the doughnuts had been paid for if he hadn't put his hand in his pocket and pulled out some money?
He could spend his life in jail; he's not gonna put his hands up and say "Hell yeah I ate those doughnuts!"
He's a lying, stealing, drug-addicted criminal. Don't be so naive. - cipher121, on 02/03/2008, -3/+14Will you shut the ***** up?
What is this, the fourth time you've said that?
Don't double post. Or triple, or whatever you did. - inactive, on 02/03/2008, -5/+16i like how part of his family's defense is using the adjective "christian" to describe the criminal and his things.
"he believes in a 2000 year old zombie jew, let him off the hook!" - Lunarbunny, on 02/03/2008, -3/+14We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office - Aesop
- azneggrollz, on 02/03/2008, -3/+13that isn't a grammar mistake
- final_sound, on 02/03/2008, -2/+12Actually, the title should read "life in prison for 3 felonies" which is the law. That being said, ya, it's ridiculous that this last "felony" would be considered a strike. It's hardly a violent crime. except maybe to donut lovers.
- urbandistrict, on 02/03/2008, -9/+19Sorry, but STOP BEING A ***** IDIOT.
1st, 2nd and 3rd Strike means....you better learn quick to control your impulses. - Elliuotatar, on 02/03/2008, -0/+9And why is that?
- centerblack, on 02/04/2008, -0/+9SEXYBOBO: Post a link to the report that says he assaulted the store owner, or stfu.
- sexybobo, on 02/03/2008, -4/+13No. He stole a pack of donuts and assaulted the owner who tried to stop him. That was the his third strike.
