It's not that hard to write a description! - jotate, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30Wish I could have a hi-res of picture 5 for my desktop. Very cool regardless.
- defact0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+27Yeah, that and the salt...
- buenit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27The face on the seal in the 11th pic almost looks human, the shape and the expression! Amazing
- Rickler, on 10/10/2007, -4/+24It's not your fault that American high school science has failed you.

Yeah, anyone else find this to be a little *****' scary? - Rikkochet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Plankton = any creature suspended in water that doesn't have its own means of motility.
- defact0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15It looks like it should be wearing a monocle and top hat and saying "Curses!"

- spargett, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I love this one... its like a victorian dress dancing under the water.
http://img.timeinc.net/time/photoessays/2007/antarctic_ice/antarctic_ice_04.jpg - OCinneide, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Really amazing.
The look on 11s face is hilarious. - CobaltBlue, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13It is a jellyfish, which is a plankton.
- dimsum05, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Yes... I, too, cannot breath.
*Collapses* - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11How many years have you been using a computer now?
- Miche1987, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12If it wasn't so cold, I would love to drink that water...imagine how pure it is compared with the polluted water we have around us.
- DruSam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Be edumucated.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plankton#Size_groups - Sophistifunk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Pictures that good, in resolutions that tiny, are a crime against nature and my desktop both!

n.
1. An ice floe.
2. A segment that has separated from such an ice mass. - TenebrousX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7If it wasn't so cold it would be destroyed by overdevelopment, I'm sure
- yoonom, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10We have a fascinating planet, I wish we could take better care of it.
- SouthsideIrish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7If you have an HD-DVD player than pick up a copy of the BBC production of Planet Earth. The shots in there are more amazing than anything you see here. It has some of the most strange creatures you could imagine living in places even more hostile than the Antartic.
- semiotix, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8"An ice cave near a breathing hole is filled with creatures that feed on seal feces."
Yeah, I'll stick with tap water, thanks. - imgeddylee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Looks refreshing.
- tehperil, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Yeah, Planet Earth is definitely worth viewing if you liked these pics
- shinkiwink, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Its pretty cool, how organisms can adapt and live in the most astounding/harsh places on our planet.
- neuropsychguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yeah, that's one huge plankton!
- Namaha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6i always thought plankton were evil little 1-eyed creatures with legs and antennae....
- seanc6610, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4i'd love to have one of these as a desktop. especially the fifth one, with the huge ice edge. http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1647012_1416749,00.html
- ShortRoundTwo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6These are some of the most beautiful photos I've ever seen. Seriously.
- MikeonTV, on 10/10/2007, -13/+17Breathstealing
- ernasty10050, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Why do Weddell Seals always have strange human expressions on their face? See the "stealin mah bucket" pic and http://scilib.ucsd.edu/sio/nsf/fguide/seals2.jpg
- neuropsychguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Death by starfish (pic 7). That has to be about as bad as death by Sarlacc.
- mrlost117, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1647012_1417304,00.html
my favorite - ChromaVita, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4You mean "Aquafina"?
- bluegender, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Polluted water around us?? Tap water is entirely safe to drink, in fact it's absurd so many people buy bottled water or purification systems.
- DDRRE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Hi-Res anyone?
- ferric84, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3so you can bookmark/link to a specific picture
- CLShortFuse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3http://www.norbertwustock.com/Common/PhotoDetailPage.aspx?pid=315541
- GliTCH82, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2So who do you think will lay claim to Antarctica if it ever warms enough for development?
- pinguz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3no, it's a space station
- CLShortFuse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Take note that the link sends you to page 2, not page 1.
- KiwiUK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Dugg for not using the words "Amazing" and "Ever" in the description
- mta3d, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2maybe im cynical; i thought it so it was a new page view and hence new ad served for each picture :-)
- jdoc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, those pictures really do have an unprecedented quality to them, in both definition & color. I wonder which camera they used? :p
- allancorbett, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Good comment. Planet Earth is/was an amazing programme.
