His only real argument was "it's our culture." This "corrective rape" would probably get the same support, as being "culture." I'm all for respecting culture and tradition, and there are many aspects of African culture that are beautiful, but this is disgusting and wrong. I don't want to see a world without diversity in culture, but when this is your culture, it needs to change.

As someone who's actually lived in Africa life is pretty normal there, and people there are as weirded out by things like this as much as your stupid ass. For historical reasons, African society and civility was destroyed. Even a 'backwards society and civility' is better than a destroyed one. Colonization cemented this destruction, and WW2 made sure colonial powers were too broke to finish molding the people into a new society.
You can see the same problem in Canada with the Native Indian population. They are a destroyed culture. Their society was destroyed and wasn't rebuilt. When Europeans tried to rebuild them (residential schools), they screwed that up too.
The same goes for African Americans (destroyed by slavery) or Afghanistan (Destroyed by war).
I'm not here to 'blame White people'. That's just happens when you break society. People ask me what's wrong with African culture. I tell them nothing. Africans who were able to hold onto their historical culture are pretty decent folk. It's the ones who have no culture who act is such barbarous ways.
I'll probably get dugg down for this now, but its the same problem with some African Americans. It's not that there is something wrong with their culture. It's that they have no culture. Yes, this was caused by slavery, so it is not their fault historically... which is why I hope this doesn't come across as blaming African Americans.
They try to develop one distinct from the rest of their society post slavery, but it's not a culture that would have lasted a generation anthropologically. You can think of it as starting from scratch without any history. Like anything, culture is fine tuned over generations. Whining dances and baby mamas are not culture. Any society that adopted these practices would have self destructed long ago.
I had this argument with my anthropology prof at university who thought we couldn't make judgments and that baby mama is just another way of life. No it is not. It's a reaction to having no culture and trying to make one up. Similar to Native Indians in Canada. They try and invent a culture and hang on to whatever they can glimpse of their past. They end up stagnating themselves in a cultural block.
I just hope time heals these wounds.

Female circumcision has no medical benefits and denies the girl of a lot of sensation when she is old enough to have sex.

Plus there are many people who choose to do it later in life. These women don't choose, it is usually done in a public and horrific fashion with no sterilization(leading to infection and public humiliation), and causes them to lose the pleasure in sex.
Besides, I'm not saying Western culture is perfect; I'm saying that anyone's culture should be changed if it causes such pain and humiliation.
