- drunkentoad, on 10/10/2007, -1/+47is that porn on the screen in pic number 3?
- Aeon53, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33Other than being cleaner and a bit more polished, i don't see how this is any different from emirates. they have touchscreen televisions, games, remote like the one pictured, same amount of room space and a foot rest. Oh and the hot air hostesses are good too. All in economy.
- zyklon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27Of course they're hi-tech. They've got all the Protoss technology they could ever need from all those Zerg rushes.
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19North Korean Air's Coach, on the other hand... not so good.
- douggmc, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18you said penetration.
- zylvester, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Yep, do not see anything highly significant about this setup compared to various airlines I have been on over the past 2 or 3 years
- reddevil3, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14South Korea has the highest penetration rate for broadband around the world. It is a very advanced from what I've heard...very rapid growth.
- DDRSkata, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Yes.
- Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7We can make the best fighter jets, hell we can have a trillion dollar debt and not bat an eye... but god forbid we have good airplanes.
***** I wish I was rich enough for 1st class. - mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7but do they fly?
- lava, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I don't understand, this is like like a regular jetblue flight. I recently flew air swiss, and it's the same thing. I think the real story here is the link afterwards to the virgin america story: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/airlines/virgin-americas-in+flight-ethernet-usb-110v-power-and-doom-285052.php
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Uh, S. Korea's economy depends heavily on their technological industry. The country revolves around technology.
- torched, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Korean Air also has the HOTTEST flight attendants, yea I know it shouldn't matter but when your up in the air for that long its nice to have a view.
- FrostySol, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Ever hear of a little company called Samsung?
- Hiki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4thats an EIGHT POINT NINE trillion dollar debt. however, the gov't has no control over what luxuries the airliners don't want to give.
- alanic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Turkish airlines has the same thing too.
Ad yes they run linux, I even managed to get a segfault. - jerryparid, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Lol; typical ignorance of the outside world.
- quomen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I love their food too
- guinsu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You'd be suprised how uncommon that is in the USA though. At least I haven't seen it on US Air or Delta. Seems the rest of the world has way better airlines than us.
- solidsnake1298, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Don't forget that LG Electronics is a South Korean company.
- berb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Dugg down for linking to your own submission.
- KineticFlow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Everyone knows that Hyundai > Kia.
/uncalled fanboyism - alibenx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Yeah, men are never in porn.
- Blarble, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3What is so "high tech" about those seats? Don't tell me it is the headrest TVs, because I just assume that everyone has those by now. Even WestJet, one of Canada's cheapest airlines, has those on most planes. Where's the tech?
- broohaha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I flew this in late 2005 while on a trans-Pacific flight from Chicago to Asia. I was pleasantly surprised by how much space there was for coach class. They had multi-player games available, which I guess is a bit more common now, but that was my first time to try it out. They also had the wireless internet available through the now-defunct Boeing Connexion service. That was a damn good flight, and I was able to get loads of stuff done thanks to the wireless connection (and two extra batteries).
Oh yeah, and the female flight attendants are oh so, hot. - bdbr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"While the air travel industry in the States disintegrates into madness..."
Talk about some serious overdramatization!
Its a nice new plane, the seats have the same features as most but are a little more high-tech looking...buts its not like Korean Air made the seats. In fact, there's a good chance the plane was made by Boeing...in the (gasp!) US. - Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Aeroflot begs to differ.
- useful, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2they run linux too
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah.. I don't see anything special about this plane.. I just flew from Israel to America, and the Boeing 777 had the same setup. Touchscreen videos on every seat, with hundreds of movies. Still uncomfortable as hell when you sit there for 15 hours.
I'm excited about the new Dreamliner though. It sounds like it will be much more bearable. - t7seven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i lived in korea for a year and when i came home i felt like i went back into the dark ages
- DPimp1262, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's definately newer planes then Jet blue or Delta's planes with tv's but besides that meh. They're nice. Nothing droolworthy. For a title like planes as advanced it's not that amazing.
- mizzrym, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The point is not that this is better than the rest of the world, just better than most American flights.
- rajulkabir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Sad for you. Korean is a third-rate airline in Asia, with horrible safety record, bad service, and chronically late flights. They are way behind all their competitors in getting their planes outfitted with in-flight entertainment, and really the only thing they have going for them is that they're usually the cheapest (except for fellow crashmasters China Airlines).
- thesixthdesign, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1To be quite frank, the only thing that looks different from a regular airplane is that there's a TV screen behind every seat.
- WoollyMittens, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I laugh when I see documentaries about the new Airbus or the Dreamliner, showing me spacious seats and onboard lounges. Everbody knows that those planes will be crammed with economy seats for every inch they're worth, with a single 14" TV in the isle, showing commersials with the colour green missing.
- rajulkabir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Sorry dude, I live in Malaysia where I can get an international flight any day of the week for $3 (plus taxes). Check out www.airasia.com.
- crazybugger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Cute and super.
http://www.muskadia.com/fonds/rickshaw/wallpaper4.jpg - kaesong, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You can't tell from the picture but it's the service that makes the difference. I flew k-air before and they have touch screens in other airlines and roomy seats, but the fact that the stewardesses care to your needs it's amazing. First class service in economy. You touch the call button and they get you what you want in a pleasant manner.
Those who travel a lot know the importance of customer service in a long flight.
Oh, and their planes have wifi. :) - Rikushix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Kudos for the Westjet reference. Westjet is the only way to go; first N.A. major airliner to abolish tiered classes (1st, business, economy, etc) and install all those nifty TVs in every headrest. You get 40-50 channels and a selection of movies for 5 bucks each :)
Korean Air is certainly not the first one, although it's a nice presentation. - firedrillduckie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Question:
What does their business class look like? - EV1L, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Korean eat dogs
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I will admit it, I actually went back to check.
- mattmollysdad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I flew KAL for 20 years and it had good service but for the best looking stews Cathay Pacific blew them away. lol
- tb0n3r, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2True. I'd fly Korean Air just for their attendants.
- davotoula, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think it's art
- KMartSheriff, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Both suck, but yeah - between the two it's Hyundai > Kia.
- mtriper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1In almost every country, domestic flights are done with much simpler cabin configurations.
Nothing new here! These so called "high-tech" features are available on most long haul international flights as coach (most, but not American Airlines aircrafts).
It seems our OP travelings have been somewhat limited latetly. - mlavergn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well, flights in Europe are as cheap if not cheaper than here, or at least they were before the US dollar collapsed, and I don't think I ever flew on a plane there as old as the ones we still have in service here. The distances are a bit shorter there on most flights though.
- IntensePuppy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1THEY GET PORN TOO!!!
- falcyn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Don't digg him down... he's right. You don't usually take a domestic flight in other countries, you take rail. All around Europe and Asia. Trains. Amtrak can't compare to that.
