- gravedigg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I think it would be a good cause, but I would like to see their 501(c)3 status from the IRS before I get too into it.
Still, if this is really legit, then I am all for it. Great idea. - MannyHills, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10This is obviously SPAM. The site could still possibly be legit, but their still scamming digg to get this to the front page. When looking at just the first few accounts that had something positive to say about this site, they were ALL created in the last couple days, and they are obviously gaming digg. Here's the list of just the first few:

Check it all for yourself, SPAM! - MannyHills, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Whether or not this site is legit, THIS IS SPAM. All the multiple accounts commenting on it here saying how wonderful it is have all been created in the past couple days. Even if the site is legit, which it probably isn't, gaming Digg in anyway should not be tolerated. Marked as SPAM.
- Obligation, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Yeah, it's basically just putting an xml file in firefox's searchplugin folder. Google "custom firefox search plugin" or something like that for a tutoriall.

Buried for your lame attempt at trying to be kevin rose. How much of a fangirl can you be? - z00k, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9You give me proof of your organization 501(C)(3) Status and the charities own word on that they are receiving the money, then you will get my internet usage pushed your way, Otherwise I call ***** on this site.
- Evolve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6pfft, no way in hell. You get 1 visit from me, thats it.
I call ***** on the whole charity thing they are pushing. - woodchucklove, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Spammy site, spammy digg comments, and ugly as hell. No digg.
- Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Its so easy to see in the comments who actually works for "searchkindley". Charity shmarity, im buring this as lame, the post basicly begs for money and I have a sneaking suspicion that this mostly got to the front page due to them getting together and mass digging it.
- mr_mechanics, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10When you BEG, by writing things like PLEASE, it makes this look like spam.
- kerryhall, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"This month's goal, making me $750 for my rent"
- MannyHills, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Oh, and you just happened to have created your account yesterday, how convenient.
- parkerault, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would like to point out that contrary to searchkindly's claim that they are "doing something that NO ONE else is even considering", the hunger site [http://www.thehungersite.com/] and it's sister sites in the Charity USA network have been doing exactly this since 1999. And yes, I am an employee of Charity USA.

"does anyone else think it's unfair for anyone but google to be making money on a service that google provides?"
Google itself chooses to allow other websites to use its service, and most websites that use it are for-profit, so I do not see any reason for objection. - kerryhall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3lmao, i don't even know how to respond to this.
- washcapsfan37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wrong story, numbnuts. He's referring to another article about some Chinese woman saved from a 6-story plunge by a pile of feces.

By the way, use the reply button ;) - washcapsfan37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually I could never forget what the word altruism means -- having read "The Fountainhead", where it is mentioned on about every page.
- tuxidomasx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3well... since i dont click on ads anyway, i can save them bandwidth by NOT using their search portal
- Ngai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Ok... some say SPAM... some say real eh???.......
Well take a look at his profile...

think twice and remember the power of a computer and scanners... you can copy a check... but the fact is... does it really go where it needs to?
You be the judge because I just don't have an opinion because I just buried it. - Ngai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2are you their representative? lol
- Ngai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2To everyone who has read mannyhills' comment....
THIS IS SPAM!!!!!!!!!...
Nice detective work :) - dylanh3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dude, you're a moron. Search Kindly isn't doing anything different from the millions of other sites out there that use ad networks -- EXCEPT that Search Kindly is donating the money to charities. Using your logic, nobody should ever use ad networks. Instead, they should just ask the ad network to give them money each month, since that's the end result anyway.
What a retard..... - MannyHills, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All I'm saying is, there should most likely be at least one or two users that have something positive to say that haven't just created accounts. It's highly disproportionate when everyone with something positive to say is a new user. And the comments that were left just stand out as not genuine. I'm sure it could very well be a legit site, but how can you ever say I shouldn't question this submission with this evidence? And I'm glad it was buried and taken off the front page.
- ajaxfontura, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm sorry, but does anybody have a good reason (other than general skepticism->cynicism) to believe that this site isn't legit? I sure don't. And yeah, it's kind of inherently lame to plug your cause like this ("tell your friends!"), but there's such a low downside here that even a modicum of revenue directed to charity is worth putting up with it.
- Apreche, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They're basically just taking money from Google and giving it to charity. It would be much easier to just ask Google to donate the money themselves. In the end, they'll probably donate more than this place will earn through ads.
- dylanh3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2kerryhall,
why so much skepticism regarding this site? i see from your Digg profile and submissions that you're a fan of anarchism. isn't this a quintessential example of people taking matters into their own hands and providing a means for helping out others without relying on the government or corporations to organize it for them??
in some other comment on here, someone said that SearchKindly is trying to game Digg. If anything, SearchKindly is gaming the whole corporate Internet advertising world that has been built up around trying to transform the Internet from a genuinely organic and social network to a profit-making machine. - hayesy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Gee, I didn't realise it was important to join digg on the right date.
You can't pretend pretty much every other digger doesn't have friendship groups that digg each others' stories. Its part of digg. - XCRunner5715, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You people are really a bunch of *****. Yeah, I just joined. I had never heard of this site before I heard about it from SearchKindly. I thought that if I made an account and dugg the article, it would be a good way to get the word out about this site, but evidently the people who use Digg don't give a ***** about people who need help. You can all go to hell.
- dylanh3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1mannyhills, you really enjoy accusing people of foul play without any evidence, don't you? see my post above for a more indepth reply to your ***** accusations.
- slickchickit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2wow you guys are genuine jerks.
searchkindly is supporting my organization, baal dan, so shut the hell up. - hayesy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Actually, in response to Nick22, the site has only 2 'employees' - Syed, the founder, and a programmer.
None of us work for it! We're supporters who want to see the site become more popular, thats all. - Stoney229, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1hayesy says:
"Gee, I didn't realise it was important to join digg on the right date.

I agree. Is this against the rules somewhere? If it is, I would honestly like to know b/c then myopinion would be different. But as it stands, I don't understand where the problem is if the site has enough existing supporters to get them on the front page, especially when the site is non-profit.
As for the site being legit or not, they may not yet have the 501(c)3 documentation b/c they've only been around since October (I've been using it since November). But most of all,
...there's still proof (as far as I can tell):

- towerk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Funny how people know GoodSearch is legit, maybe because it seems more realistic as they actually take a chunk of money. But when it comes to some college guy creating a site that does the same except donates 100%, it all of a sudden seems 'sketch'. Wouldn't want to believe that someone is too generous right?? Unfortunately everyone doesn't know him as I do, but Syed created a legit site. Hopefully everyone will come to realize that some way.
- dylanh3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hey "mannyhills",
So I'm not a legitimate Digg user because i haven't been on this site for long enough, eh? Well, ***** you!! I used to have an account, but then Digg removed it for no reason (probably because some other schmuck like you came to the brilliant conclusion that I was a spammer and flagged me without bothering to ask me), so i didn't really feel like using their site again after being unceremoniously booted. Then, along came SearchKindly and I recognized a good opportunity to help a fledgling non-profit group get the word out.
So, yes, I created my new account on Digg specifically to promote SearchKindly. Do I profit from that? Only in the sense that it makes me feel good knowing that I'm donating a little time and effort to help out some people less fortunate than me. And to assuage your feelings of ill will, yes, I intend to continue to be an active member of Digg using it in the spirit it was meant to be used. In fact, as someone else pointed out, you haven't exactly contributed very much yourself, so maybe you'd better get on that....
I don't appreciate someone questioning my integrity, whether it's in person or on an anonymous web forum. If I were as mean spirited as you, I could look at the scant three (3) stories you've submitted and question whether you posted each one because you truly thought it was interesting, or because you stood to profit from it. How about the story you posted about "Scotty and Fiddy"? Is it legit? Maybe you're actually "Scotty" and you don't really need to get to your 50th state in 50 days, but really you just want to get some free handouts from people because you're a lazy low-life scumbag. Hmmm.... And maybe you work for Dell, and that's why you posted that story about their new CableCards coming out. How convenient......
And do you work for the Organic LED industry as well??? Surely, that must be why you submitted that story on how to make your own electronic lights. But how spammy that site was!!! It was just awful how many ads popped up when I visited it. I'd better bury that story because you're clearly the one who made the site, and you're just trying to make a buck by taking advantage of unsuspecting Digg users. I'm onto you. Trying to profit from submitting stories to Digg! For shame!!
(okay, I'm not really going to bury the story, because I'm a geek and I think it's kind of cool, but ***** you anyway mannyhills). - hayesy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Quote from article:
"we are currently in the process of applying for 501(c)3 status from the IRS"
The way I see it is: It doesn't cost me anything, it is run transparently, and its a good idea. I'll use it, and when it has 501(c)3 status, all it will change is my confidence that I'm doing something for a good cause. - ko16736, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Dugg for good luck.
- dylanh3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1They still get money from some of the ads just through people visiting the site and viewing them. Don't be such a dick.
- smmclain, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Mannyhills,
It doesn't matter when people join this website, or for what reason. I never knew it even existed until just a couple of weeks ago. So what point are you trying to prove? Spam? I don't think that's a very credible accusation, considering everyone of the people that have made a comment, except for yourself, are all trying to spread the word. Has your life been so corrupted that you cannot take the time and do research, to make an intelligent comment? What difference does it make when people joined, or how many diggs the have made or gotten? I don't remember reading anything on this website about it being a competition (other than trying to get on the front page).
I have nothing to do with the development of SearchKindly, however I feel like I am part of the cause and can say "we" are trying to make a difference. And as for Goodsearch; yes, that is a legitimate sight, as well, but I think, and I could be wrong, but you choose the charity you want your search donations to go to and in turn there is a smaller percentage being donated per month or year; however they do it. Yes, there is a very significant amount of money being donated overall but it's spread so thin. SearchKindly is doing this on a monthly basis, where we can donate a larger amount of money to the selected charity. To be completely honest, I'm sure it doesn't matter which website you use, but this is supposed to be a cause to raise the integrity of humanity in and of itself. That's the point.
-Shawn McLain - battletank101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Hey mannyhills..so you say I created my account yesterday and I'm a scam?? Well you had yours all way back since Dec 2005 and with all that time submitted just 3 clumsy stories that got no more than 6 diggs. Funny I gotta say, I've been on here for only 3 days and I already got 4 submissions and as much as 14 diggs on one of them(something that's going to take you another 2 years maybe??). So what's wrong with being new on here? Maybe it's your unability to foster anything creative on your own during your 2+ years on here that leads you to bash others, including those that are sacrificing their time to make something new in order to help others. I found out about searchkindly through digg just like you, but instead of bashing everything ( as well as all the members new to digg on here) I read through the site and did some research on it (as I always would do with such things and believe everyone else should). I found it credible and give heads up to the searchkindly folks for the effort.
- faketmt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0And could there be any more ads!?
- smmclain, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This is not spam. Go ahead and go to the site and check it out for yourself. The Chicago Sun Times has written an article on it. There's a link, on the blog page, on the web site.
This is a college student. This is a quote from the article. "...project by generating money for charities and using it as an experiment in a social entrepreneurship for his senior thesis." Why is it so hard to accept that there just might be some people out there that are trying to help others, selflessly. Before you go crying spam and scam, why don't take a step back and actually do some research on it, like all of the rest of us have. Grow up.

one of the things I like about the guy who runs it is that he is transparent - and gives evidence that he is doing what he says he is. - battletank101, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2A very innovative idea indeed. Seems to work the same as google but your searches go towards a donation. Has a community feeling to it as well..I think I'll replace my google homepage with this one:)
