"esotericeddie says:
dont u mean 200th b-day?"
um...no? - alibenx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+31What are you talking about? You didn't know the founding fathers built the statue of liberty after signing the declaration of independence?
- jockser, on 10/11/2007, -8/+38Happy independence day my fellow Americans.
from you Israeli friend. - wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -2/+29Disconnect your modem.
- andyyoung1, on 10/11/2007, -13/+35U.S.A: The best country on the planet since 1776.
- Kyrgizion, on 10/11/2007, -7/+29Unfortunately, with the most idiotic government since 2000.
- blackgrape, on 10/11/2007, -9/+29A gift from France. It's supposed to symbolize liberty and freedom.
Flash forward to 2007. Deeply ironic... - ZephyrNinety, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19Pssshhh, if it were refurbished, it wouldn't be green!
- clark24, on 10/11/2007, -10/+28I remember those days, back when we were the "good guys" ...
- dunezone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Peter Venkman: Kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it?
Winston: Wonder what?
Peter Venkman: Whether she's naked under that toga. She *is* French. You know that. - elig, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Thank you, France!
- SheilaNoya, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12The fireworks display for our Bicentenial in 1976 was much better. Even the hookers got caught up in the patriotic fervor. They were only charging $17.76 for a blow job, but you had to be a "Minute Man".
;) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -10/+21***** SWEDEN.
- CAPSLOCKISCOOL, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14You're mad because we won the war
- IShouldBeWorkin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12some great pics in the set, just wish they were larger
- sally00, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12The best year EVER.
- slapded, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12I want it to be 1986 NOW
- Bamborzled, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8This is a picture about the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, not the whole USA. The Statue of Liberty was given as a gift to the Americans by the French in 1886.
- Jeffler, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9***** THE RIAA
- CorpT, on 10/11/2007, -5/+13I doubt anyone thought we were the good guys back then. Remember, we're only the good guys to the rest of the world while a Democrat is in office. While Reagan was defeating communism, the Europeans were still complaining.
- endustry, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Other than aging goths, you are the only person I have encountered who wishes it was still 1986.
- valkyries, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7but everyone knows it as green. (sry copper)
- Kronos6948, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I remember there being plans to clean all the corrosion off of the statue back then. There was such an uproar from the public to keep it the color it is. I for one would've loved to see it back in burnished copper color.
- Half-Fast, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Thanks Jockser. Glad to have you as a friend.
- burnstyle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7to bad... you will have to settle for 1984
- jmorgan1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Great Pictures!
Cheers! - Kronos6948, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5This wasn't for America's 200th birthday. It was for the 100th Birthday of the statue. RTA.
- SheilaNoya, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I'm a "homosexual activist"??? LMAO !!!!! I'm an old woman who laughs my butt off at all you dumb rednecks and homophobic idiots. That doesn't make me a "homosexual activist". It makes me SANE, you moron.
- polyGone, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Too bad we trade blind patriotism for humanity.
Still, our founding principals can save us. Have a great holiday, fellow citizens. Don't blow your hands off. - Gurubanks, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5***** YOU!
- Kr4t05, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The Statue of Liberty was given to use to commemorate our Centennial, but wasn't ready for 1876, hence, it was delayed 10 years.
Lern 2 wiki. - kingkilr, on 10/11/2007, -5/+9/sad remix
America, ***** yeah - Half-Fast, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I joined the Army in '86 and a guy I went through Basic Training with had pics (the old hold in your hand and shuffle through kind) that he had taken from a helicopter flying over those fireworks. His Dad was a pilot for a helicopter tour company that flew from NJ edge of NYC and circled the fireworks show. Good Times and Great Pics!
- razrielle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4***** THE MPAA
- Reddog_x2000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Me too. I graduated in 86. This year, I get to turn 40. So, hell yeah, I wish it were 1986.
- dallyp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Awesome.
- Malakym, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4"...radical leftist commies notwithstanding."
Of course. That goes without mention. - bcasper1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3its not america's birthday, the description says 'her birthday'...because the french gave it to us as a gift in 1886, meaning its the statues 100th birthday being celebrated on the fourth of july since thats the birth of her country, and it says two centuries because its lived in two centuries not 200 years old.
- patrickloggins, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah. ..and what about George Washington having dinner with the Pilgrims on Thanksgiving?
- superfusion, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Wow. Now it's liberty itself that's exploding.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3How about you suck our collective dick.
- iChaz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4beautiful.
see? 35mm photos arn't that bad :] - feshmania, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Whoa whoa. The Statue sits in NJ territory. Jersey. Represent.
Except for the dudes with blowouts...their armpits smell like garlic. - devolved, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I wish it was 1986 so I could watch Airwolf and the A-Team, then go play Defender of the Crown for hours.
That, and totally use my knowledge of the future to buy lots and lots of Microsoft stock and invent Pogs. - kizza42, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Pfft, You call that fireworks?
http://www.thedailysydney.com/userimages/user998_1165317756.jpg
And they weren't even trying for anything spectacular that year!

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Big talk considering you can't name a single right you lost.
- niczar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Reagan was too busy selling arms to Iran through Israel in order to fund terrorist groups to overthrow the democratically elected government of Nicaragua.
