- tjClassic82, on 04/08/2009, -6/+248If the wife/girl wanted to have his child... I can understand that. The mom wanting a grandchild from her dead son... Kind of creepy.
- meruru, on 04/09/2009, -1/+187She's not creating a grandchild, she's creating a replacement son.
- Pseudorious, on 04/09/2009, -2/+88Because the world needs more fatherless children.
- orthodoxDrew, on 04/09/2009, -0/+64need to use it before octomom gets ahold of it
- polypropglop, on 04/08/2009, -4/+63Every sperm is sacred.
- CaptMonkey, on 04/09/2009, -1/+59I don't know about you, but personally that the thought of my mom harvesting sperm from my dead body ranks pretty high on the list of "Creepiest things digg has made me think of." It's right up there with the assisted cannibalism and dads who lock their daughters (and subsequent children) in rape dungeons articles.
A wife or possibly a girlfriend is one thing, since you're supposed to raise a family with her and it's kind of endearing that she wants to carry on, even though your lives were interrupted by death. But your mom? That's too weird for me. - fanboydcs, on 04/09/2009, -0/+49What a better story than this? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/mother-wants-to- ...
And I knew these people!
Pamela Reno, 38, a cocktail waitress, is hoping to use sperm taken from her 19-year-old son, who killed himself while playing Russian roulette, to fertilise an egg from a donor to create an embryo which she would then carry herself. - defenswens26, on 04/09/2009, -2/+48She's negating Darwin's Law... tsk tsk.
- snichol16, on 04/08/2009, -4/+48I guess the idea of eventually moving on with her life without her son isn't something the mother is quiet interested in.
But I'm sure looking at reminder of your dead son everyday for the rest of your life is a healthy coping skill - inactive, on 04/08/2009, -2/+43 I don't even know what to say about that. It seems a little weird to me.
- defenswens26, on 04/09/2009, -3/+44What the hell do you tell that poor kid when he starts to ask where daddy is? This is just downright disturbing.
- R3dRabbit, on 04/09/2009, -2/+41I find it rather selfish.
- manzplan, on 04/09/2009, -3/+37That about as selfish as you can get.. your kid is dead and the first thing you think about is having a Grandchild? WAY WRONG!
- poidh, on 04/09/2009, -2/+36There's probably porn of that somewhere.
- richgustavson, on 04/09/2009, -1/+33Tomorrow's headline: Mother Pregnant With Octuplets From Dead Son's Sperm
- freezerburn666, on 04/09/2009, -0/+31your mom likes poop
- MikaStar, on 04/09/2009, -1/+32Wait till the kid is old enough to read and look up the article on how he came to be on Digg..
- upnortherik, on 04/09/2009, -5/+34And weed is still illegal...
- fefu, on 04/09/2009, -2/+28Why do people think that they are so special that the world just can't go on unless your genes are in it? I know there's an evolutionary basis for the drive to pass on family genes, but humans also have a mind that can (sometimes...ok, very rarely) think rationally about these things. We are not unique snowflakes and all that. Not everyone's genes need to be passed on. It DOES NOT matter, folks. You are not special. There are plenty of babies in the world already that need help. Help them instead of demanding babies that look like you (or your son). Oh, and if you have kids just so you can get grandchildren, that's just ***** up. Not everyone has kids, you know.
- kweee, on 04/09/2009, -1/+24Okay, time to update my will to prevent something like this from happening...
- graemee, on 04/09/2009, -0/+20New meaning to "Digg him up"
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -3/+23Oh yeah, big time.
"I want him to live on," Evans said. "I want to keep a piece of him."
What the hell is that? Major psycho alert. - csueiras, on 04/09/2009, -3/+22Yo momma is so but so crazy that she got a judge to OK the collection of her dead son's spem so that she can get a grandson and forever torture herself and possibly others with the constant remembering of her dead offspring.
- sousademiami, on 04/09/2009, -0/+19Great, another line I have to put in the will!
- jaytek13, on 04/09/2009, -8/+26Don't see what's wrong with it... I imagine it's quite natural for a mother who's lost a child to want him/her to live on in some form. I think a girlfriend requesting this might be just a tad bit creepier... Then, I think extracting sperm from a dead person is kind of creepy all around.
- Windfish, on 04/09/2009, -0/+17If my parents did this to me I'd come back as a ghost to haunt them.
- digitalpencil, on 04/09/2009, -3/+20you can kind of see the twisted rationality in her thought pattern but the judge should never have let this slide.. imagine how this kid's going to feel, finding out that his dad was dead before he was even conceived?! there's loads of kids who need good homes, and the individuals they become are a result of upbringing, environment and geography. not simply genetic makeup..
I can feel for the mum wanting a to replace her son, but ***** happens, people die and this just isn't fair on the kid.. - Hetman, on 04/09/2009, -1/+18When I die I want my sperm to die. No one has the right to use my sperm with out my permission. This is a trajedy. What a selfish mother.
- gcnaddict, on 04/09/2009, -3/+19Well, this handily defeats natural selection.
- executorzz, on 04/09/2009, -1/+17I was about to say, a bit morbid...how about say just adopting a kid.
- Calamier, on 04/09/2009, -5/+21My mom kept my daughters used diaper for 3 days. Creepy is a perfectly accurate description of some mothers, mine included.
Please, save the 'your mom' jokes. - artfiend77, on 04/09/2009, -0/+16The dude was playing Russian roulette...what is this, Vietnam in the 60's? Does she really want his genes to live on? Hopefully the child grows up with a bit more common sense than his "dad".
I feel sorry when the kid finds out *how* his father died.
I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up having the kid herself... - durga2112, on 04/09/2009, -1/+16You know those times when you have a real WTF moment when clicking on a Digg article, and then feel relieved to find out that it's from The Onion?
That just happened to me, only in reverse. - donkevin, on 04/09/2009, -0/+15Rule 34.
- digitalpencil, on 04/09/2009, -1/+15Every sperm is great!
- dusanmal, on 04/09/2009, -1/+15Not even a wife/girlfriend should have that right without specific written and certified will addressing this specific issue. No one but the person him/her-self should have any rights on any part of their own body after the death. Same as with organ donation - person can specify in the will if he gives any of those rights away and to whom and under which circumstances.
Idiot judge (and family). - designerutah, on 04/09/2009, -2/+16Sorry, but his genes just aren't that special. Adopt, or do without.
- ImaBlueBunny, on 04/09/2009, -0/+13In the article it says, "She has just lost her son, and she knew her son wanted to have children."
So here's my question, is this Mother just assuming that someday her son would of wanted children? My boyfriend doesn't want children, I know this, however if you asked his Mother she'd claim to the contrary. So I do wonder if this would have been his wish. I can't imagine a lot of guys saying, "Hey Mom, if I die feel free to take my sperm and raise a child I didn't have nor plan for!" I think she could have found better ways to carry on his memory. - altgeeky1, on 04/09/2009, -1/+14This is a cry for help from the mother.
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+13somewhere == your hard drive
- SurrealDream, on 04/09/2009, -0/+12Your mom's.................not quite right :S
- defenswens26, on 04/09/2009, -0/+11Yeah, but this kid will be conceived after the father died. It's not the whole, your father went off to fight for our country and died protecting our rights, your dade left, or whatever other reasons may exist. This is, I didn't know how to deal with your father's death, so I had you created. A tad bit creepy if you ask me.
- Glassmentality, on 04/09/2009, -3/+14Hi, my name is John and my father is a rotting corpse...
- Jektal, on 04/09/2009, -0/+11Why add another one? Plenty of currently father-less children waiting for adoption by a father-figure.
- danwallace, on 04/09/2009, -0/+10No. No I wouldn't.
- gardenia, on 04/09/2009, -0/+10This woman was on The Today Show this morning. Full story with video:
