- asdfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Salvia is by far one of the strongest drugs I have ever experienced. Its effects were much more intense than LSD and are on par - if not more potent - than DMT. Salvia is legal and it should be used with care. It is NOT a recreational drug and is it definitely not a substitute for Pot.
Check out these Salvia videos. Search YouTube for 'salvia' to find more:

This is by no means the only "legal high" that exists and isn't a fraud but I mention it because this has now replaced my previous drug of choice for exploring my consciousness, which was LSD (I do mix both sometimes).
I have yet to experiment with Ayahuasca (although have smoked DMT a few times while I was in college). Read up on Ayahuasca and DMT if you don't know what they are. Cheers.
Edit: One important thing I didn't mention. They have research chemicals which are legal (not really, they're in the grey area). They are very strong and are in the same class as some illicit drugs such as MDMA (Ecstasy) and LSD. Actually, Bromo-DragonFly is a research chemical that gets sold on blotter as LSD in some places.
http://www.CanadaRC.ca sells research chemicals.
Research:
http://www.erowid.org/psychoactives/psychoactives.shtml - killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Just more drugs that kids will someday be arrested for, sent to prison, and made into hardened criminals.
- asdfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Oh and some "legal highs" you want to stay the ***** AWAY FROM are Datura and Brugmansia. They are plants that I've sure you've seen growing around. They will ***** you up mentally and physically, and can be fatal in high doses.
In fact, they aren't recreational drugs and are legal only because they're so ***** up that most psychonauts won't go near them.
If you want to read people's experience with Datura:
http://www.erowid.org/experiences/subs/exp_Datura.shtml - elroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If I had to choose one word to describe the salvia experience, I'd say CONFUSION. It's beyond strange. At least you can make some sense of the things around you when you're on acid or something. Salvia just takes over for a few minutes.
Smoked an extract once while on acid, immediately following a joint. Won't be doing that again! - lathesand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5NewScientist is just continuously coming up with reasons why I'm a subscriber. 8)
- elroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Um... but acid is FUN. Salvia is... not.
Oh, and from the article:
At the end of the 1990s, vendors started taking advantage of a legal loophole that permitted the sale of fresh mushrooms as long as they were not prepared in any way. Business boomed.
Heh heh. "boomed" - asdfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You're right to a certain extend, but the more attention drugs get in general, the more interest people will have and the more they will find out what harms the Drug War is doing.
A lot of people are going to hear about Salvia and try it. Let's say they enjoy the drug and then it becomes illegal. They will say "why is it illegal? It's not harmful" and then question the government's policy about Pot, Shrooms, LSD, etc.. so in effect, if the government is banning substances which aren't that harmful, or are in fact relatively HARMLESS (marijuana), this will back fire if drugs get enough media awareness.
We all know Pot is a lot less dangerous than Alcohol, Tobacco and even Caffeine. It might even be beneficial to smoke it occasionally. A lot of people don't know or believe this, and I think showing these people that the government DOES lie and DOES have hidden agendas will help them see the truth about the War on Drugs.
Prohibition must end. - mattsparkes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There's a photo on New Scientist's Flickr account of the products:

So we both agree that getting high is a GOOD thing, right?
"I used to get high on life, but pretty soon I built up a tolerance..." - Arj Barker - Aliarse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'll stick to smoking pot, and only pot. I dont need no other drugs, im perfectly happy with the one i have.
Also dont want to add to the "cannabis makes you want harder drugs" debate by moving onto something else and mentioning pot in the same sentance, as you're just giving these types of people ammunition imo.
However, if you want to take those "harder drugs", im not going to stop you. Your body, your choice. - kefs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4sad, but true..

Everyone is different. I puffed herb all through college and still managed a good GPA and a good job in the software industry. Go figure.
Good point about being predisposed to being ***** up. If that's the case for anyone, then you have to be careful which way you tip your psyche. - asdfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If you want to buy these, just use Google. Search for "salvia extract buy" or "salvia shipping". Watch out for sites that sell bogus products though. You can go to Google Groups alt.drugs or alt.drugs.salvia and ask for a vendor, if anything.
Hell. Look hard enough and you'll find mail order heroin, cocaine, LSD and Pot.
I've bought from http://www.salviaisland.com/ before. They are legit. iamshaman is also legit.
http://www.shroomery.org has sponsors/vendors which are 100% legit but mainly deal in selling shroom spores (legal to buy but illegal to cultivate). The Shroomery is one of the most active boards on the internet and is a good place to go for most drug discussion (as well as botany and misc things) in general. - manvsmonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've tried salvia a few years ago. It's just a few minutes of disappearing from the world. You aren't seeing anything invading the real world, you sort of fall into a conscious sleep for a minute and then come back, slurring with some drool on you, until you're back to normal and that's it. It's not like being drunk or stoned. I'll probably try it again someday.
I also recorded it. It was really, really interesting to watch. I, the entity that I consider myself, wasn't there, but on the tape, I was watching what really happened when I went wherever in my head. I couldn't remember anything--I wasn't there. But on the tape, I just exhaled and started laughing and tipping over onto my side. Crazy to experience that of yourself. - YumYumKittyLoaf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Most headshops sell Salvia, The Shed especially. I personally don't like it due to the feeling of sweating and such. But when i do get enough it's pretty crazy. Since it only lasts 10-30 minutes at the most, it's pretty fun.
- timmytheraw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2“Faced with growing use and an information vacuum, governments are playing catch-up. Some, notably the US and Australia, are clamping down on each new substance as soon as they encounter it. Some are doing nothing. Others are commissioning research into the drugs and their effects before deciding what action to take.”
It's articles like these and stupid kids who want to “get ***** up” or “party” that gets a lot of these types of drugs banned. Anyone remember Operation Web Tryp? All those powerful “research chemicals” were really great tools for exploring the mind, as long as you weren't reckless with them. But there were too many kids (or adults acting as if they were kids) that did them, not knowing at all what they were getting themselves into. And so the D.E.A. stepped in and said they were as dangerous as that cocaine/heroine/whatever we have all been hearing about. If you ignore the mentally retarded man that stuck his tongue into a vial of phenethylamines and died, there are fewer deaths that occurred from all the drugs banned under Web Tryp than Tylenol.
Point being, don't advertise/write about any drugs that are legal. You are just taking the risk that too much attention will be created and then the government will feel the need to take it away because they are “dangerous” (Not that I think all drugs are safe, or that any are safe if you aren't responsible. It's just that if some drug is popular, the government trumps up the dangers of it and then bans it) - asdfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@itistoday:
Are you talking about Erowid? Erowid is known. It has been mentioned on BBC TV, even.
The government knows about Erowid, Shroomery, Pot-TV, High Times, PirateBay, and many other things that it wants off the 'net. That's the beauty of the Internet. - timmytheraw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Chew the salvia leaf as it was meant to be done. Its not nearly as intense and confusing as smoking 20X savlia, or whatever ridiculous concentrations they have these days.
- schnurr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hahaha i love salvia... get that 35x and ghost a fat bubbler hit and your DONE... some people say theyll live like 30 years of their life in 5 minutes and snap back to reality
- Genthree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Where does one find these substances?
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The best journalism on drugs was Gonzo Journalism, and Gonzo Journalism died the day HST killed himself.
- itistoday, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I never understood why people like asdfasdf find it necessary to popularize sites that only survive due to their little-heardof obscurity. When one points a spotlight on them they quickly cease to exist. Just look at what's happening to AllOfMp3.com if you don't believe me. Come September/October, no longer will it be what we used to know because it became so popular that the US government was forced to do something about it.
- tarrmachine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I am a proponent of Salvia, not because I want to get ***** up and see *****, I see it as an enthogen that I can use to meditate and face issues from my past that aren't resolved. I have a lot of repressed feelings and this causes major social anxiety, no fun at all. Salvia is not a party or recreational drug, there is a time and place for Salvia and it should be revered as sacred.
My main use for diviners sage is alleviating symptoms of depression and depression. I am treatment resistant to all anti depressants I have tried and Salvia works right away with amazing results. Before Salvia, I self medicated with any kind of opiate I could get my hands no and I became a junkie. However, once an addict always an addict Salvia has reduced cravings and help me kick the habit of prescription pain killers. After a breakthrough experience, my outlook on the past had taken a 360 degree turn. I am confident that I can kick the habit thanks to Salvia. I know this won't solve all my problems, but the plant needs to be researched for medicinal properties. People that aren't depressed will not see the positive results of this drug, if you are depressed it is a godsend. It should not be criminalized, then it will never be researched for medicinal properties. - nunyabiznis71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@asdfasdf
DUDE, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE EDIT YOUR FIRST POST TO REMOVE THE VENDOR LINK / NAME. IT WILL CAUSE YOU NO HARM TO DO SO (AND WILL MAKE MANY OF US HAPPY) BUT NOT DOING IT MAY CAUSE HARM TO OTHERS. - babayada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2None of my salvia experiences have been anything I'd characterize as "fun."
I think trip videos on youtube and articles hawking it as a new recreational drug do it a disservice.
My take on it is this: people use it and have a variety of experiences, a lot of which are considered meaningless. This is because they don't know how to use it. Curanderos and curanderas know how to use it, and it aids them.
The drug is considered sacred, but use like on the youtube videos just profanes it. It's sorta like getting drunk on sacramental wine.
I have no idea how salvia is supposed to be used. It would be nice if someone were to share the secrets of that tradition, but I am not aware of any such disclosure. - elShaggy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Salvia is kinda fun. The funniest part is how it stupifies your speech, due to it being a muscle relaxant. Though I perfer the illegal Cannabis to it, Salvia is a fun vacation from our plane of conciousness.
No one cares about the Opiate and Anphetamine ripoffs because those are addictive and their users will just use Herion and Meth. And if i wanted a several hour hallucination i would eat magic mushrooms. - dicerandom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Salvia is intense. I think that might be why it's legal. I've done it and it's far more potent than weed, shrooms, or LSD. The real kicker is that it only lasts for a short time, even with concentrated extract you only trip for 10-20 minutes and within an hour of dosing you're back to normal. It can be an extremely frightening experience.
- itistoday, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@asdfadsf
Of course I'm not talking about erowid. I'm talking about legit vendors who survive through word of mouth but are doomed the second they become popularized over internet forums where every 10 year old has access to them. Just wait for the headline where some 13 year old dies from taking to many "research chemicals" from vendor such-and-such, shortly there after it's brought to the attention of law makers, and then vendor such-and-such is no more. - HellifIno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks, towers. The comment I responded to spelled it as I did in my question. Which was obviously wrong. I have no idea why you're getting buried. You were right in every sense possible. : /
- asdfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Salvia DOES have uses but not so much if you smoke a 40X extract. That just bombs your brain with a huge rush of information that you can't make sense of. Ever tried smoking DMT? Same thing happens. Yet Ayahusca (main chemical in this is DMT) is one of the most visionful and spiritual experiences you'll have.
The key to get a good journey off of Salvia is to chew a quid of leaves. This will give you a very slow paced long lasting journey.
Also, put all the visions aside, Salvia is a great for depression and anxiety. Check this out:

The salvia experience is different for everyone. I for one love it. I didn't think it was possible to feel as though 'you' didn't exist. - towers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Hellifino:
The reason you can't find "enthogen" in any dictionary is because you're missing an "e". Try "entheogen" for more enlightening results... - xswag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15-MeO-DMT

Ahhh, but don't forget that HST's drug of choice for many, many years was Chivas Regal.
I was fortunate enough to speak with the man a few times in the early 90's. Don't get me wrong -- F&L in LV is a truly sacred text -- but by the time I got to meet him I couldn't understand a single word he said. Ever. There's a legal high with some long-term effects for you.
He did Taser my friend once on a dare. Hilarious.
Or maybe you had to be there... - lokai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Just what we need: more unnecessary attention placed upon these alternatives, and links to go along with it. I'm upset to see a few links mentioned here which should be kept away from the masses. Hopefully others see this and will go bury some comments and not give away too much more information. If something bad comes of this I am going to be quite upset, as will many others.
- illt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1salvia has no real purpose in it's use. I, and nobody i know, came away with anything from taking the drug, unlike psilocybin. It really is just a trip, and that's it. You take it, sit back, and just get transported to a crazy place with no exploration or input from yourself.
really quite stupid if you ask me. - HellifIno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Traditional use seems to be chewing some leaves. I'm surprised you didn't find this, as it was ALSO mentioned in comments above your own comment. : /
I'm ALSO surprised that people talking about 20X or ##X levels don't realize what that actually means, as it's a homeopathic measurement. The greater the # before the X, the smaller percentage of the actual product is contained in the .. ehh, pill, salve, liquid. Whatever. - Aliarse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tar - WALOB! :)
- towers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@asdfasdf,
PLEASE, could you edit your post to remove the vendor information? The last thing anyone needs is some kid to click on that link & set off a chain of events (so easy to imagine that I won't bother describing them) that gets the vendor shut down. By posting this info you're not helping anybody (except the lawmakers who just want excuses to schedule these compounds) and are making it more difficult for those who use these substances responsibly.
Those who have a genuine interest in these things don't have much difficulty finding out where to get them, but it does take some effort. Which is as it should be. Anything good that the general public gets their hands on tends to get ruined. - HellifIno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0On another note, wtf is your defintion of enthogen? I can find no established definition for the word. The closest I came is: "In Yiddish, there is a word that is accurately descriptive of of the contemporary enthogen crowd -- meshugana. I won't try for an exact translation for the word but approximately it implies a whacked out craziness."
Everything else I find seems to VERY loosely reference mushrooms, or their psychoactive ingredients. Oddly, I've eaten a LOT of mushrooms w/ psychoactive ingredients, and I've never heard the word "enthogen".
Empathogen? Yup. Know that word. MDMA is one. - biggerbrother, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The above post is not from the real Kobrivoje. IT IS A SCAM!!! The real Kobrivoje has only 2 X's in his email address.

Kobrivoje - Googled, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I find it hard to see why these legal highs aren't illegal. I use them regularly (had a spice roll up today) and are much similar to the real deal.

I concur. I missed out on many opportunities because I was much too attached to my bong for far too long. I didn't know it at the time, but I was definitely smoking to self-medicate. After a crisis or two I eventually woke up to my hefty Bipolar Disorder, sought help, and -- surprise! -- lost my interest in the ol' pot pipe.
I teach HS now, and when the subject comes up, as it inevitably does year after year, I only tell the kids one thing: Pot is a spectacular waste of time.
As for LSD, etc. I did my fair share. While hallucinogens did make turn those Jerry Garcia solos into intergalactic roller coaster rides, that was about it. I have no interest in exploring my own consciousness; I already know I am an incredibly boring person. No chemical enlightenment needed there. - tarrmachine, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1You can't even spell, it is quite obvious that you are a typical "stoner". Just wait, you are probably young and think pot is so cool that it couldn't possibly ever have any negative effects. Or worse yet, lead you to more intense highs and more addictive drugs. It does and it happened to me. I was once like you and I didn't even realize that the pot made me so lazy that I couldn't even get up for class and pass simple college courses. I flunked out because I was content with being stoned all of the time, and didn't give a ***** about anything else.
Pot brought on anxiety and depression that I was predisposed to and I still can't smoke it because I freak the ***** out. -
