http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250108256198 - jerrycan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+82+ mill? I'd say that's just a little bit more than the law will allow...
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8This isn't the "original" General Lee. The original is a rusty, beat to ***** former dirt track car covered in heavy green paint. It is no longer running. When I say original I mean the one the used in the jump for the opening credits of the show. It was heavily damaged after the jump and sold. I saw it several years ago at a car show in Indiana, where I'm from.. Somebody had it in a barn after years of being abused on the dirt tracks. Somebody else traced the VIN and history of the car and discovered its past.
That said, there were about 20 of them still sitting on the production lot up until about 15 years ago when a guy bought all of them and sold most and built a good one for himself. This one is AN original, but not THE original.
@e3mw - What do you mean 4 production models? They used like 70 cars in the series. - sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Excuse me dipstick, but I don't think it's possible to pull over the General Lee.
- Cumella, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If I had the money I'd buy it simply to jump random obstacles. Dukes of Hazzard style of course.
- navinjohnson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Shepherd to Lost Sheep.
- 22magnum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There was so many that they made for the show, that cant be the last one.
- Stryker412, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5He was just on Smallville for 5 years. I doubt he's hurting for money.
- himey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There is one at Cooter's Museum in Gatlinburg Tennessee. The cast has autographed the dashboard & everything.
There is ANOTHER one in Gatlinburg in the movie cars museum, but I don't know if that one was actually used on the show. - kirb59y, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Current bid: US $2,700,600.00
Place Bid >
"Get low monthly payments"
haha - buster99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wouldn't pay $2.3 million for the car, but I'd pay twice that for the original Daisy Duke.
- jimmiejaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_General_Lee
During the filming of the first season, the producer was riding in a car on a country road when another car, driving the other way, honked their horn at them as they passed them. That car had what was to become the famous "Dixie" horn. Upon hearing the horn, the producer ordered the driver to double back and chase the car down. Once they got the other car to stop, the producer offered the owner of the car upwards of $200 to rip the horn out right there and give it to them - dweeb73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3-Roscoe P Coltrane-
"Gyah Gyah Gyah! We're in hot pursuit!"
/-Roscoe P Coltrane - ganjadude4391, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5its not the lone general, tommy lee walker from 107.3 WRWDfm in the hudson valley NY has one from the show, it will be at a car show this sunday and has all the documentation proving its an OG
- jeffeb3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This was the last car from the movie "Dukes Go to Hollywood" and not from the show. The tag under the hood says it was completed 12/97. The show ended in 1985. This was not from the show.
Bury for misinformation. - TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd love to see the new the charger made to look like a general lee
- catfive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We have one in Illinois, too, at the Volo Auto Museum. I've heard there were tons of them because everytime they jumped one it would get destroyed by the landing. I guess they were extremely front heavy and needed to be heavily weighted in the rear in order to look natural in flight.
Volo has some other cool cars too, including the original Batmobile.
http://volocars.com - clempka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There's also one at a museum in South Dakota. They have a bunch of older vehicles including Elvis' motorcycle. Pretty sweet stuff.
- scheper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As far as I can tell, this one wasn't even made for the show. I doubt you could call it the 'original'.
- Reddwarfusa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2$2.7 million now ,woah
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I thought Kid Rock (or Jesse James ?) had one of those cars too.
- e3mw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@cawpin - I should've been more specific. It was the last one out of the 4 production models made for the reunion movie in 1997 I believe
- sethworld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2what about Bo Peep... Daisy and the car were the reasons to watch the show.
- shartman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1word!
- Nocturnalis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This car is definitely worth it. Everyone knows this car.
Now this car is a TRUE CLASSIC! - donolsen1155, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Buyer beware, he has some bad feedback. :)
- Codename, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What a classic! This is great.
- timdgibson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uhh...he's had plenty of work:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0773884/ - scheper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's true.. Iirc it was one of the most common cars at the time, and they bought them by the dozen for the show. There was a special on, I think, Hot Rods or so, where they went into detail on the General Lee(s).
- Ub3rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Stop digging him down. He's right, this isn't an "original" General Lee from the TV show. Its only claim to fame is that it was driven by one of the original cast members in a crappy made for TV movie.
- elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like the high bidder on this auction's got himself in a spot of trouble.
- greenzrx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The car was made in 1969. It was rebuilt in 1997
- goodvinboy, on 09/27/2009, -0/+1I don't believe this is the last one
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well that's certainly news to me!
- TeMerc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Only way I pay that much for it is if Jessica Simpson cums with it.
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I guess you missed that whole Smallville gig he had not long ago.
- jsams81, on 06/26/2009, -1/+1are the doors welded shut?
- BOFH2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@e3mw - Apparently the saying - pics or it did not happen - does not apply.
- SlyTranslator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"'the car actually has a 511 crate motor from 1998 that produces approx 725hp.'
no way the car has a 725hp engine."
A 511 Hemi? Plausible.
The 465 Corvette engines that the Can-Am cars used to run did 600-plus, and that was over thirty years ago, Engine tech has progressed.
As to "original" - the first car and all of the cars used on the show appear to have been built in the Atlanta area - in Chamblee by Carrera, i think. I remember the day i was on I-20 coming home to Atlanta from Birmingham, heading east just west of Six Flags, and a car hauler with six identical General Lees was heading west, presumably ti L.A. - SonicAD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yeehaw!
- mrmikewikowski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+010 million bucks now. Insane
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think I'd rather have the Boss Hogg Cadillac DeVille. RIP Sorrell Booke.
- eradicator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I think the horn was dubbed in on the show, but if the buyer wanted to add one they could get it here:
http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2009059/p-2009059/N-111+10201+600015201/c-10101 - JohnnyRad, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3The title of this is missleading...it's not like the ORIGINAL from the show...it's number 4 of 4 that were built in 1997.
you're still an assbag if you buy it. - shartman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I guess that I don't consider a car made in 1997 a "classic".
