- someguyouknow, on 11/13/2007, -9/+59It is very true. Most people would have no problem with Jesus. He loved everyone. He rejected no one. Look at the people he hung out with. Its the same people that christians today reject(or become).
- drastik21, on 11/09/2007, -3/+52Horrible choice of Font for Jeezus
- meruru, on 11/09/2007, -22/+63Hmm, that's odd, I can't seem to find the chapter written by Jesus. All I see is some guys named Matthew, Luke...
- pheedback, on 11/09/2007, -2/+42That's not Jeezus that's Chuck Norris.
- ronaldinho, on 11/09/2007, -0/+23Ugh, the font of Jeezus is so hard to read!
- airiox, on 11/09/2007, -14/+36Much of the teachings in the Old Testament are part of the old law and were done away with when Jesus preached new "higher" laws. Please read up on history before you condemn an entire people based upon their beliefs.
- rauz, on 11/09/2007, -2/+22Because Jesus is a zombie?
- badjoke, on 11/09/2007, -3/+23Thank you for your input.
- chewbacca77, on 11/09/2007, -0/+20Mary was a Jew, so Jesus would be. He taught at synagogues and never said that he wasn't a Jew.
His followers directly called him "Rabbi."
"Christianity" is just a word for following his teachings.
I don't believe these facts contradict what jdornbos was saying. - herrshuster, on 11/09/2007, -16/+35it's not true...all those verses don't even refer to the subject:
on sexual immorality how about this verse: 1 cor 6:8-10 8Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers.
9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
alcohol and drugs: ephesians 5:18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
abortion: technically, no but you know the arguments made from the bible
war: fine i agree
sep of church and state: actually, good verse, but that phrase (sep of church and state) is taken out of context and isn't even in the constitution
money: not really sure what point the cartoonist is trying to make
the jeezus part is spot on though - democracysucks, on 11/09/2007, -28/+45Wow, way to take those verses WAY out of context!
You can't take a verse about dietary laws and apply it to drugs--the Bible DOES say not to be given over to wine. http://www.broadcaster.org.uk/section2/transcript/ ...
You can't take a verse about "casting the first stone" and say we shouldn't condemn homosexuality--the Bible clearly condemns homosexuality. http://epologetics.org/homosexuality.php
Of course, when has Digg ever cared about real truth? - airiox, on 11/09/2007, -4/+20Its called historians. I don't know anything about anything anymore because all of history is written by men who didn't create it.
- Navicerts, on 11/09/2007, -2/+18Do you even know who "they" is?
- ostracize, on 11/09/2007, -6/+21"For example, no where in the bible is it clearly stated that Jesus lived and died a Jew. In fact many Christians either don't know this, or choose to ignore it. Not only was he a Jew, but he was a Rabbi, and all his followers during his lifetime were Jews."
I don't know where you are getting your facts, or who these "many Christians" you speak of are, but I know hundreds of Christians and we all understand that Jesus was a Jewish rabbi with Jewish disciples.
Your comment is just plain ignorant. - tecratour, on 11/09/2007, -0/+14I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ. -Ghandi
- lorenhatt, on 11/09/2007, -1/+14sad, but true.
What annoys me too, is this whole, "God, bless America," instead of "Please God, Bless America." - guitarh3ro, on 11/09/2007, -1/+14Why is one of Jesus' eyes not colored in?! It's rather creepy O_o'
- floridiot2, on 11/09/2007, -4/+17Jacking off to pictures of yourself.
- davidrools, on 11/09/2007, -1/+13Actually the majority of the time (at least from the bible) Jesus spent with Jews and only had a few encounters with Gentiles (the samaritan woman at the well, and the Roman centurion for instance). He did hang out with the outcast of the Jews, though, like the tax collectors, unclean, and "sinners". He butted heads with the Pharisees constantly. Also, Jesus wasn't trying to overthrow the power structure, though the Messiah was expected to do just that, and Jesus' followers were hoping he would do that. But he had plans instead to overthrow the spiritual structure on earth.
Interestingly, the Christian right today looks almost identical to the Pharisees of Jesus' day: they impose rules that aren't God's commands, they condemn those who don't follow their traditions, and they live in a way to impress their peers rather than God. - Kickboy, on 11/09/2007, -1/+11You said it man, nobody ***** with the Jeezus
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -2/+12Because it's worthy.
- badjoke, on 11/08/2007, -1/+11money: not really sure what point the cartoonist is trying to make
That all the richest conservatives profess how religious and good they are. - drmangrum, on 11/09/2007, -4/+13Most of those 2.1 billion are non-practioners who are chirstian in name only. They are atheists at heart, but lack the courage to claim it to themselves.
- Feep, on 11/09/2007, -24/+33Of course Digg cares about the real truth. That's why no one gives a ***** about the Bible.
- davidrools, on 11/09/2007, -4/+13You quote Paul, not Jesus. Their theologies are really distinct when you take them each as a whole. They're still coherent, but suggest two different ways an individual can choose to live. The church these days seem to follow Paul's generally more legalistic teaching rather than Jesus's more faith-centered radicalism.
- neodorian, on 11/09/2007, -2/+11People who have different sex preferences than the person preaching.
- Philodox, on 11/09/2007, -8/+16The old testament's great. You know what's better than homosexuality? offering your daughters up for gang rape. Thanks, Bible!
- empiric, on 11/09/2007, -3/+11As a Christian (of the Lutheran variety), I find this remarkably insightful.
It is quite offensive to me how the political Right in conjunction with primarily Evangelicals have co-opted Christianity into a militaristic agenda more reminiscent of first-century Rome than first-century Christianity.
Political, theological, and intellectual lightweights, all of them. :p - Hetman, on 11/09/2007, -0/+8Hospitaililty used to be a big thing back in the day. Not so much anymore unfortunatly.
- vanguardanon, on 11/09/2007, -5/+12I don't like you message but I begrudgingly dug it because you're right. :)
- cillian07, on 11/09/2007, -2/+9dude, i seriously hope that you realize just what you're doing as well. You're singling out points that support your homophobia, and ignoring all the other worthless crap in Leviticus. I hope that you abide by every one of those farking rules, but oh wait. if you do, you'll violate jesus' rules. well done, you open-minded and accepting you.
- dirigibleduck, on 11/08/2007, -0/+7Actually, Paul's entire theology revolves around the concept of salvation by faith rather than adherence to the Law. The issue is that some authorities were saying that Gentiles ought to be circumcised and convert to Judaism before they could be Christians, but Paul argued that this was an unnecessary stumbling block; that faith in Jesus was all that was necessary. Paul does give a number of "suggestions" on how to live a holy life (which are debatable by context), but by and large he writes off the Jewish Law as obsolete for Gentiles like us.
I also believe that Jesus taught people to believe by faith rather than works, such as in the case of the Repentant Thief (Luke 23:39-43). I'm not saying that Jesus and Paul are identical, but that Paul's theology was less legalistic than your interpretation. Also, consider the theory that not all letters in the NT attributed to Paul were actually written by Paul himself. - MrNexus, on 11/10/2007, -1/+8Bowie Jesus
- ArchieAndrews, on 11/09/2007, -4/+11You could just stick your fingers in your ears and say "lalalala". That works too.
- lnf69, on 11/09/2007, -14/+21"The Bible is the only way to know who the true Jesus is and what he believes."
So are you saying that historical facts are less enlightening? For example, no where in the bible is it clearly stated that Jesus lived and died a Jew. In fact many Christians either don't know this, or choose to ignore it. Not only was he a Jew, but he was a Rabbi, and all his followers during his lifetime were Jews. Jesus never preached about becoming "Christian". There was no such thing in his life time.
But then, you were probably not talking about knowing "facts" about Jesus, but "knowing" Jesus in a spiritual sense, where facts and reason have less importance then in the material world. - atdigg, on 11/08/2007, -1/+8He probably didn't have beard either (unless the you consider the one he grew while on the cross), and most likely he had short hair.
- king3vbo, on 11/08/2007, -5/+12This is very true, unfortunately.
- dirigibleduck, on 11/09/2007, -1/+7As a Christian, I cannot digg this enough. It's important for people to read the Bible with the wisdom of historical context, and still be able to extract an element of personal significance. In other words, Jesus wasn't "'Murrican."
- herrshuster, on 11/08/2007, -0/+6oh...right...well ok I see your point, and i have to agree that uppity rich christians are not particularly liked by this not-so uppity poor christian
- inactive, on 11/10/2007, -0/+58 year olds, dude...
- MuffinPatrol, on 11/09/2007, -4/+9I am pretty sure that "Give Cesar what is Cesar's" was in reference to taxes not separation of church and state.
- orangester, on 11/09/2007, -6/+11I guess we're all going to hell then.
Sorry I'd rather live a fun life without regret, than a "good" life hoping that it's all worth it when I'm dead.
To each his own. - regeya, on 11/09/2007, -1/+6Other than the 'render unto Ceasar's' gaffe, I agree. Jesus' gospel is a gospel of LOVE and TOLERANCE, with a reminder that not living by the law has consequences.
The only real example of Jesus flipping out and going nuts in a Christian Conservative-like fervor is when he threw the money-changers out of the temple.
People always forget Jesus' message to the woman who was about to be stoned: "Neither do I condemn you; go your way; from now on sin no more." So he didn't APPROVE of just any behavior; he just didn't dole out or condone Earthly punishment for immoral behavior.
So, yeah, as a regular church-goer, I don't approve of things like gay marriage, but you won't see me picketing courthouses and homes of gay couples. I just have beliefs about what will happen to them if they die while living in sin. It's not my place to condemn. It's in that book the Christian Conservatives claim to know and love, but never seem to actually read or quote.
Go ahead and talk about your flying spaghetti monsters now. That totally proves you're more intelligent, and more mature, than me. - sibhod, on 11/09/2007, -2/+7First of all, this is about what Jesus said, not Paul or Moses or some apologetics website. If homosexuality or abortion was such a huge issue to Jesus, you think he might have mentioned it.
Second, you are taking your translations and your interpretations and fitting it to your own concepts. I've read interpretations of Romans 1:26-27 that come to very different conclusions. I won't bother wasting your time on the specifics, because you will dismiss them off hand because you've obviously already made up your mind. - Waiting2awake, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5Most people never see that side. I have held the belief that "the church" is not about Jesus, but about Paul. Jesus being just the queen, errrr....figure head.
- davidrools, on 11/09/2007, -1/+6in the first century, the main issue was having sex with pagan temple prostitutes.
- KDAY12, on 11/09/2007, -0/+4I prefer, "God bless everyone."
- davidrools, on 11/08/2007, -0/+4@airiox he said he'd fulfill it, but also:
"I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." (Mt. 5.18)...maybe everything's accomplished already, but...
"It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law." Lk 16.17 - StingerMS, on 11/09/2007, -1/+5As a born-again Christian, I approve this message.

What is Digg?
