- rcomegys, on 11/09/2007, -0/+11What's funny is that the *most* Japanese women go through crazy measures to avoid darkening their skin. In this country, white skin (on a Japanese person) is considered beautiful. They walk around with umbrellas on sunny days, wear elbow-length gloves and big hats while driving, etc -- it's a dual purpose thing: Avoid getting a tan while preventing wrinkles and dark spots on their skin in the future.
That's why you'll almost never run across a tanning salon or find a woman sun-bathing here. These shibuya girls, I think, are trying their hardest to buck tradition and be different. They just take it to extremes, like American goths. And it's just as stupid -- nothing says "I'm different from you" then by dressing exactly like the rest of your social group. Reminds me of that Good Charlotte video with all the fans jumping up and down and pumping their fists in rhythm to the lyrics "I don't want to be just like you...". - Cymrubeats, on 10/13/2007, -0/+11It's more 'orange' over here than black/brown...She's been tangoed.

I work for a Japanese (car) company and things that would take 2 or 3 hours in an average US or Euro company take an entire 8-12 hour day here. Things are very inefficient in corporations. -
