- diggface5000, on 10/10/2007, -3/+145heros taught me that japanese people can stop time
- WillyVolk, on 10/10/2007, -4/+63That's two more hours for drinking beer.
- justice7, on 10/10/2007, -2/+36this is probably about perspective.
Lets say you go out to the bar friday night... it is now 12:30am, you still consider it to be "Friday night" and not "Saturday morning". That is likely whats going on here. - basegreen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+34Heros is the Greek God of spelling mistakes, you insensitive clod.
- monkeyvoodoo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+35Too bad seeing the title of the show every time you watch it didn't teach you that it's spelled "heroes". Unless you were talking about Hiro. In which case, you still got it wrong, and you missed an apostrophe.
- wattznext, on 10/10/2007, -5/+33Why is a sign for a BAR used as an example of the japanese inventing a 26 hour WORK day? Buried as dumb.
- TheCosmicFool, on 10/10/2007, -6/+21Do you have numbers to back this up? not saying your wrong, just have never seen numbers..
- gingerbreadMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14this is actually a common thing in Japan. when a place closes after midnight, but before the morning hours they just keep counting up. most bars that close around 2 or 3 do the same things with their signs
- alok0, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11They do this in many places, I have seen TV schedules go to 27 o'clock, its because if you stay awake that late you could consider it still the "same day". Say you want to watch a show on Monday night at 1AM ... if the schedule said Tuesday there would be confusion as to which day it is really on, because you would not wake up a 1AM on Tue to watch the show, you would stay up till 25o'clock on Monday night.
- Phearce, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Or, two more hours of Sake and Karaoke.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+724 is more than enough for me
- prosayik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7This is pretty common for signs in Japan. Maybe those who find the idea of a drink called "Sweat" hilarious will find this amusing.
- kclyons, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Japanese people are very stringent when it comes to time as well. In America being 5 minutes late is acceptable, in Japan NOT being 5 minutes early could get you fired. Just goes to show the huge cultural differences across the water...
- bluerei, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Hiro Nakamura's doing, I suppose.
- EXreaction, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Who cares about a high suicide rate?
At least they don't have the high crime rates we have here in the US. Hell, I remember someone leaving their wallet full of cash in a phone booth in Tokyo, came back a day later (figuring it would be gone, but none the less wanted to check) and the wallet was still sitting their, nothing was taken out of it. Just try that in the US, I guarantee that by the time the second person gets in there it will be gone. - MeMongo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5People work at the bar, right?
- plbland, on 10/14/2007, -0/+5In the UK TV media times generally go up to 29:59 (05:59), I figure because most channels used to begin airing at 6am and this was seen as the new scheduling day.
- orangester, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Japan have super time number 1!!!
- Thater, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9kill yourself
- protogenxl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The twins keep us on Centaurian time, standard thirty-seven hour day. Give it a few months. You'll get used to it, or you'll have a psychotic episode.
- cherrick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Slacker.
- EXreaction, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It is a joke...
- clucas101, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It's just a way to show 2AM, it's done in a lot of places in Japan.
- justok, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I didn't believe you the first time you said it, but you said it again, so it must be true.
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4More people drink at the bar than work there.
Unless there are more servers than patrons, and that's just silly. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Actually it's only 1 hour 15 minutes. drink last = 25:15
- egroeggnik, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6FTA -> The Japanese are an incredibly efficient people. They work harder, stronger and faster than their American and European counterparts, and seem almost allergic to the idea of taking sick days and holidays.
buried as inaccurate, because anyone who's worked in Japan knows that they're not as dedicated as those in the Canada/U.S.A. - Sibre, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Actually, the clock never reaches 24:00. After 23:59, it resets to 0:00.
- crossmr, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3its not, he's a moron.
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The sad thing is that we only chuckle a bit at the fact that we can't stop playing with our Wiis.
- MattB123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I'd take the extra two for sleeping. Of course that reinforces the OP's point, but as long as I get my sleep I don't care!
- timusca, on 10/10/2007, -2/+526 hours in a day means 2 more episodes of "24" every season, which of course would be renamed "26". Sounds good to me.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yes, you do.
- b3owulf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This is laaaaaaaaaaame.
- smokeyphikap420, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3So the concept of time is changed to not inconvenience people watching a TV show late on Monday night, someone needs to get off their high horse and shove it...
- thomashallock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"I'm fairly certain that after 24:00, the clock is supposed to roll back to 0:00 with the start of a new day."
Bzzt! 24:00 -> 0:01, or 0:00 -> 0.01 - DNAspark99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Japan is a fantastic place, and this doesn't surprise me. I was recently there drinking my face off with some friends in a fun little bar in Osaka till the wee hours of the morning... when we left, my buddy forgot something (his glasses) at the bar but was way too liquored to even notice until we got back to the hotel. So...me and another buddy happily volunteered to go back.. (see why here!: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qjuQ4nnSiP8)
but the place was closing at 5am. It was about 4:45... so we ran back... only to discover that there was a complete staff change, and they were still serving drinks... (so we stayed!)...we were there until about 7:30am drinking, so there 'last call' was some sort of bluff... I still don't know what was going on there... - gamalkik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Having worked with Americans, Brazilians, Frenchs, Germans, Belgiums, Canadians, Swiss, and more..... I can tell you Americans are definitely *NOT* the most productive!
They measure productivity in amount of hours they put at work... not what gets accomplished. - RevEng, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why would we want a day where everything is closed? I feel for those people who work on the weekends, or work 7 days a week, but they're compensated well for that. For everybody else, a day with nothing open is a day spent doing nothing.
- firebhaal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1they dont play by the rules, so they can do whatever they want
- wattznext, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Did you see the last season of 24?
- Frisbinator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That little description was inaccurate. Statistically, Americans take the least amount of vacation in the world. That author ought to check his facts before making such grandiose claims.
- blogsper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1May be you have 26 hours after your drink .
- angelwings1777, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I definately wouldn't spend my extra two hours working.
- sevenhelmets, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Personally I still have issues trying to drink "Calpis"......
- diggimator, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1Actually I work at a tech company in Japan and I can come to work as late as I want. Sure, some companies might be strict on time, especially against freshmen, but there are differences amongst industries.
- dartboard, on 10/14/2007, -1/+2Yes, because there are only Japanese restaurants in Japan. If you want French food you can go to the USA or France.
- Cloud7654, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I actually prefer butter on my turtles.
- thailand1972, on 10/14/2007, -1/+2Why is it ironic?
- diggimator, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1It doesn't say Work Hours: 0:00-26:00, so it has nothing to do with Japanese being "efficient"...
