- STPZ, on 07/07/2009, -8/+28Death implies the end of life, regardless of beliefs in fairy tales, if someone dies it is the end of their life; eternal life is something different. Is there eternal life was not the debate.

- Talphin, on 07/07/2009, -6/+19Life (as we know it), requires certain physical conditions to be met, and without those, life does not form, or continue. When someone dies, it is because they (or it) are no longer able to physically maintain the conditions required in order for it to live.
The idea of life after death would not actually be "life" as we know it, and would actually be considered a state or plane of existence. A state or plane of existence, which has not been proven, nor has anyone provided any evidence that such a plane of existence even exists beyond the imaginations of wishful thinkers.
The concept of life after death is "magical", and according to the laws of physics, "magic" doesn't exist.
If anything, it is up to you to prove that it exists, if that is in fact what you are implying.
Good luck with that. - ddhillon, on 07/07/2009, -1/+14Tell your mama to get clicker for you on christmas

- HAL90000, on 07/08/2009, -3/+11Only a positive claim requires evidence.
For instance, if I said there was a bear in your driveway, and you said "no, there is not a bear in my driveway", it would not be reasonable of me to respond to you by saying "prove there's not a bear in your driveway". Because if you pointed and said "look, no bear", I could say "prove he's not just hiding from me". No, science does not work that way, and it would be up to the one who made the positive claim to prove his case. - MarkOfTheDead, on 07/08/2009, -0/+8I miss the old Digg combos that were good.

- ToadLeg, on 07/08/2009, -1/+6Talphin: "according to the laws of physics, "magic" doesn't exist."
This is only true if the laws of physics is defined to not include magic. The reason that "The concept of life after death" is not within the laws of physics is because the laws of physics (and other science) is defined to only include things which can be tested ("natural phenomina") (which does not include life after death, which is by definition not testable); not because of anything about magic. - ChocChunkOaties, on 07/07/2009, -1/+6"The world is like a ride at an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real, because that's how powerful our minds are, and it's fun for awhile...Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question. 'Is this real? Or is this just a ride?' And other people have remembered and they come back to us and say, 'Hey, don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride.'"
"And we kill those people" - JediPilot, on 07/08/2009, -2/+7Isn't the burden of proof on those who claim their IS life after death?
