- vault, on 06/29/2009, -1/+63I'll take garbage for $500, Alex.
- avalanche123, on 06/28/2009, -3/+65It's both, and mostly garbage.
- GoKings, on 06/29/2009, -2/+52It's a river of garbage
- WTFNuggets, on 06/29/2009, -4/+31I'm going to have to go with garbage. I don't need to know every damn detail of somebody's life. And what annoys me even more is the fact that people think others care.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -5/+32twitter sucks
- warp99, on 06/28/2009, -4/+28"Is Twitter a river of content filled with garbage?" There, fixed that for you.
- dvsbastard, on 06/30/2009, -3/+20Does a bear ***** in the woods... then twitter about it?
- macgiants, on 06/30/2009, -2/+15What's Twitter?
- Tanktunker, on 06/29/2009, -0/+9That's what your mother said, Trebek!
- Atario, on 06/29/2009, -0/+8TFA: "While I'm saddened by the news of the deaths of Jackson and Fawcett, I'm much more interested in what happened on Twitter and how close it came to a massive fail."
I see PC Magazine has decided it can forgo journalistic writing standards now that they're online-only, and just dive headfirst into the "massive fail"s and whatnot.
Though, to be fair, maybe this is purely down to Lance Ulanoff. Even when they were still in print, his hand at the helm seemed nothing but a force for mediocrity. - algaeturd, on 06/30/2009, -0/+8How so? I think you've got irony confused with coincidence.
- Scopitone, on 06/30/2009, -0/+7On Twitter I enjoy choosing the updates I see.
On Digg, when I'm stupid enough to check the comments, it tends to be a Biblical sized river of unholy garbage rape. - Rorsach, on 06/30/2009, -1/+8You're right. It's a sewer.
- brandnewx, on 06/30/2009, -0/+6It's not just garbage. It's waste! A waste of server resources, a waste of productive time. When those twitters have nothing to do, they will twitter about their twittering. Sooner, you'll see some twitter like "What am I doing? I'm twittering..."
- algaeturd, on 06/30/2009, -1/+7How is Twitter 'filtered,' as you put it? It's a constant flow of opinions and hearsay. That's the problem with it. No filtering to it, except if someone uses a modicum of judgement and Twitter users don't seem to be very good at self-restraint.
- merreborn, on 06/30/2009, -0/+6Good point. Don't want to read stupid ***** on twitter? Don't follow idiots.
- algaeturd, on 06/30/2009, -1/+6Only if he's an egotistical, self-indulgent bear who thinks his ***** doesn't stink. If that's the case, he'd fit right into the Twitter landscape. And so would his *****.
- xino, on 06/30/2009, -1/+6Even if you like twitter, you should digg avalanche123 up because no matter how many people you follow (like actually read the tweets), there's way more people you don't follow and way more tweets that you don't read. With that said, there's nothing wrong with enjoying the small percent of good stuff because even that small percent is a lot of stuff.
You can say the same thing about the Internet. Most of the Internet is garbage, but the small percent that you enjoy on a regular basis is still a lot of stuff for one person to enjoy. - njb444, on 06/30/2009, -0/+5I have yet to understand twitter.
- DAGman27, on 06/30/2009, -1/+6RIP Jeff Goldblum
May people never forget to watch Law and Order: Criminal Intent on USA Network. - lkbvr, on 06/30/2009, -1/+5or maybe reservoir? river is too small
- arleym, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4Dugg for title, I would have read the article, but my attention span is only 140 characters now.
- zlib, on 06/30/2009, -1/+5Its a river of *****, that's for sure.
- joejitsu, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4It seems that every new follower, AKA bot, I get is more interested in showing me their sexy pictures than anything I have to say. Also most of their tweets seem related to the link to their sexy pictures. Not all bots on twitter are like this to be fair. The rest of them want to monitor your tweets so the companies they collect data so they can better market to you in the future. Do any humans actually use twitter beside Trent Reznor?
- merreborn, on 06/30/2009, -1/+4If I ever start a sentence with "Since I have 8,500 followers on twitter...", shoot me, please.
- Xplorer, on 06/30/2009, -1/+4And denial is not just a river in Egypt....
- digitalArtform, on 06/30/2009, -1/+4It's the illusion of access to celebrities, even though the connection usually goes one way.
It's self-serving links - QueenOfAStoner, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3I can't believe this question even needed to be raised.
- AlanCayce, on 06/30/2009, -8/+11I like twitter, I also like to get buried for my views :D
- cmost, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3Tweeting, also known as micro-blogging, is probably the lamest thing yet to come out of the Internet age. I don't need to hear a blow by blow of the mindless minutia of another person's day.
- notoneofus, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3Sturgeon's Law (or revelation): "90% of everything is crud."
- tomarocco, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3I must confess...I've never twitted...and never will.
- brundlefly76, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3I am so sick of people insisting on making a polar judgment about whether Twitter is 'Content or Garbage'
ALL mediums contain both useful and useless content, and mostly the latter, so just take it for what it is.
No one is asking any 'gurus' to send down some sort of official decree, yet everyone on the internet seems to want to give one.
Like the web, Twitter is completely free and without obligation. You get to hand-select every person you follow and can choose to read or not read, Tweet or not Tweet, at any time. You never have to make a final decision on it, its just there as another tool for you. - Dabellah, on 06/30/2009, -1/+4Garbage
- spookyttws, on 06/30/2009, -1/+3It's a river of slime. And it flows under Manhattan.
- BLeppard, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2Twitter is a diluted version of Facebook and blogging. Just a new 'fashion' trend.
- nepidae, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2no, its actually not like that at all.
- paloooz, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2It's a series of tubes.
- MScrip, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2You get to choose who you follow. And you should probably only follow people who you're interested in.
- peestandingup, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2Id say the internet itself is AT LEAST 50% garbage, so yeah. The chances are good.
- brundlefly76, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2"In 2009, this unassuming social networking service was inundated by self-proclaimed 'media gurus' who insisted on giving their unsolicited opinions on whether it was useful or not"
- Handonam, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2
DONT CRAP ON THE APP. - algaeturd, on 06/30/2009, -2/+4Let me get this right: Guy writes story..." Twitter is good, but twitter can be bad, too."
Really? Like virtually EVERYTHING in the world, it has good points and bad?
No wonder this is on the front page. So enlightening.

For the record, I'm not surprised that anyone who would write like this ("I'm much more interested in what happened on Twitter and how close it came to a massive fail.") is a twitter user.
Have some self-respect, man.
And to clear it up, twitter is isn't a river of anything except self-indulgent ***** for the most part. Don't be shocked that most of the information you get on there is almost exclusively useless, inappropriate and inaccurate gibberish. - jcsoc, on 06/30/2009, -1/+3it's it's a series of *****
- hmunkey, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2Digg is actually home to a lot of the more intelligent internet users/commenters. If you want to see pure internet garbage go to Twitte,r Youtube, and 4chan.
- Wuss, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2at least digg's garbage is more then a sentence long.
- GreatSunJester, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2Twitter is a lot like Victoria Harbor (Honk Kong). There is a huge amount of traffic, some good, some bad... and you do NOT want to swim.
- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -2/+4Is Television a River of Content or Garbage?
Is Conversation a River of Content or Garbage?
Is Food a River of Content or Garbage?
Is Life a River of Content or Garbage?
Who chooses who you follow on Twitter? You do, thats who. - christianboutin, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1Garbage is a form of content. So twitter is a river of content, no doubt.
- volcompimp, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1It's a status feed service, stfu already
