Is It Time to Globalize Time?
itmanagement.earthweb.com — Don't look now, but business is global. Media is global. Communication is global. So why are we still torturing ourselves with local time? In the United States, why are we double-torturing ourselves with local time aggravated by daylight saving time gymnastics? Enough! Why don't we all get behind a switch to GMT everywhere?

- apryld, on 03/12/2008, -1/+5Interesting question - there is a lot to consider in order to answer...
- davidamerland, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1...and we've just ran out of time, sorry.
- thetzfreak, on 03/12/2008, -1/+5this is a very interesting concept.
- dtele, on 03/12/2008, -1/+4Thats what GMT is for... if you need it for business, use it. For the masses however, it would be weird for the average person to wake up at 6pm.
- tomzvrl, on 03/12/2008, -1/+3For a while, yes. But don't you think we could adapt? I mean, they're essentially just arbitrary numbers.
- Noein, on 03/12/2008, -1/+41 time system would make coordinating events easier across different time zones, but what if you need to travel to a different time zone? Wouldn't it be equally if not more confusing since the numbers you goes by become meaningless? It's a lot harder to figure out you should be getting up at 9 instead of 7 and eat your lunch at 2 instead of 12 without time zones, then just set your watch to local time.
- bhaelochon, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1That's the biggest obstacle, and probably the one thing that would keep something like this from going through. Otherwise, I support the idea.
- bohemianowl, on 03/12/2008, -1/+2I think it would be cool. maybe people would stop being so anal about time. wake up with the sunrise. hell, even John McCain supports sunshine
- Todash19, on 03/12/2008, -0/+5"hell, even John McCain supports sunshine"
Link or didnt happen :)

- Jade456, on 03/12/2008, -2/+3Daylight savings has got to go.
- bstory, on 03/12/2008, -0/+3count me in
- wemustbenuts, on 03/12/2008, -1/+3There is a lot to think about. I grew up in Scotland, but am working for the short term in Alaska. Alaska is 9 hours behind Scotland, so it is really difficult to find the best time to make a phone call.
- webroker, on 03/12/2008, -1/+1Energy issues remain, especially in the colder Northeastern States. Lights off, thermostats down until the sun rises..!!!
- Widgett, on 03/12/2008, -0/+8Daylight Savings = Spawn of Satan
- chikoos, on 03/12/2008, -1/+1Yes. If its going to make life a lot more easier and simpler then its time for change.
- TheNerd25, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1I don't think it would be such a bad thing. I can't see what the difference it makes when you get up. It could be 6am in one place and 6pm in another but when the sun comes up it comes up. It's just a number.
- o0JoeCool0o, on 03/12/2008, -0/+2It is nice to gain an hour when you set your clocks back tho :)
- Patrikc325, on 03/12/2008, -0/+21 clock for all
- Tiler, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1It would be interesting. It would affect traveling multiple time zones but we'd all become accustomed to knowing the local sunrise and sunset time. Not a bad thing, methinks.
- scamerica, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1I like when the sun shine at noon time
- JonathanMead, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1The time change is killin' me right now
- kevinelgan, on 03/13/2008, -0/+0Great idea!
- ThePirateParty, on 03/13/2008, -1/+0Stupid idea.
- tqoliver, on 03/13/2008, -0/+0This gets my vote, GMT all the way and lets also express time in military time. It also helps reduce confusion. That AM/PM thing has to go. Most computers, travel, television schedules, etc. all need to be in GMT and military time to avoid confusion. The rest of the world could benefit also.
- sunaren2001, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1Is that possible??
- Truzseeker, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1There is already a standard called Coordinated Universal Time ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTC and its used by radio stations, mariners, radio operators, etc.
