- kindaintoit, on 11/24/2007, -8/+299The vast majority of migrants are good people but we never hear about them in the media, just the small number of criminals that come through.
The guy probably used up all his life savings to pay for the coyote to bring him across just so he could feed his family back in Mexico. Just when he got to the promised land he gave it all up to save the boy. This doesn't surprise me. Anyone who would risk their life crossing that desert to clean the toilets of people who vilify him for their family's sake has to have a big heart.
The migrant's name.......... Jesus. Not kidding. - freefoodisgood, on 11/24/2007, -6/+209The headline should be "Jesus Saves Boy in Desert."
- inactive, on 11/24/2007, -60/+182why is this so amazing?
oh, I remember, if this guys and illegal immigrant then obviously he must be a freeloading scumbag who never wishes to help anybody.
NO, any good-natured person would help a kid they found car wrecked in the middle of the dessert
honestly, couldn't they have just called the article: "MAN rescues boy in desert"
who cares or what does it matter if hes an illegal immigrant - Cymrubeats, on 11/24/2007, -6/+128The fundamental difference here is, he was a guy who was more or less guaranteed to get thrown into jail, then out of the country if he stayed with the boy. He done the right thing, and, even if he does get thrown out, will always know that.
- foofoo, on 11/24/2007, -16/+134I wonder if Lou Dobbs will report this??
- pintomp3, on 11/24/2007, -6/+123crime rates are actually lower for immigrants, both legal and illegal, despite what the xenophobes claim.
http://www.azstarnet.com/news/171109 - AriaStar, on 11/24/2007, -8/+103Mexicans want to come here, and Americans want to go to Canada. The further north you want to go, the harder is it. Mexican jobs pay *****. They've got little chance at paying the immigration fees. If I think it's hard enough coming up with the money to emigrate to Canada when I have a good job and more money left over at the end of the month, what's it like for Mexicans?
The pathetic thing is that this man will be deported as soon as he's booked. He saved an American child, but that matters nothing. He could have walked passed, probably made it in, but instead stopped his dream to save a little American. - durru7, on 11/24/2007, -3/+92what if he killed the boy? would it be okay to use the term illegal immigrant?
I've always seen the headlines "Illegal immigrant murders ...." and every time I look in the comment section theirs nothing stated about why the writers should have used the word 'man' instead of 'illegal immigrant.' There are still a lot of people that think every illegal immigrants are evil people. Don't get me wrong, I agree with your statement, just don't think everyone else does. - TRUEPATRIOT, on 11/24/2007, -5/+93hes stealing our kid savers jobs!!
this should grant him insta-citizenship. - pintomp3, on 11/24/2007, -10/+93wow, next you will be telling us that they are people too. people who are in search of a better life. people who are similar to all the others who came to america from around the world. people who enhance the quilt in this great experiment we call america just like all the other immigrants before them.
nah, it's easier to be xenophobic and believe that they are subhuman because our immigration law says so. - reaver, on 11/24/2007, -4/+82Seems like this article flew right past your head. This illegal immigrant saved money for months, walked for days, only to give it all up to help a stranded boy survive in the desert. I'm pretty sure most Americans in that situation would have walked right past the kid and went on to freedom. Think about it, would you really have helped the kid and gotten deported or kept on walking to freedom?
- secion8, on 11/24/2007, -4/+81I say give him his citizenship, The guy is a hero and we need more people like him in this country. He knew he would be in trouble after getting caught, Yet decided to stay with the boy and was selfless in his actions.
- greenriver572, on 11/24/2007, -10/+75LEGALIZE HIM
- TRUEPATRIOT, on 11/24/2007, -8/+56if this guy had tried to get into america the legal way this kid might be dead
- sockpuppets, on 11/24/2007, -0/+46I have no idea what you're trying to say but trust me, this will be on the main page.
- hassanchop13, on 11/24/2007, -1/+46and he'd probably be rejected
- inactive, on 11/24/2007, -3/+47My God, thank you for understanding. What pisses me off more than anything is the lack of understanding about why someone would cross the border illegally? Many illegal immigrants don't have the opportunity to come here legally. Yes, I understand the need for documentation, but why can't we have an immigration procedure that gives the average working Mexican a change? It's far too expensive, there's far too much bureaucracy, and it take years upon years.
For many of these people, telling them to immigrate legally is the same as telling them to not even bother trying. You got a problem with Mexicans, fine, just come out and say it, but don't hide behind the argument that you're only concerned about the law. - arjie, on 11/24/2007, -0/+42You should really quit smoking, dude.
- clark24, on 11/24/2007, -4/+41I hope they give him citizenship but that is highly unlikely. They probably already deported him.
- antoniuk, on 11/24/2007, -11/+47For those of you who do not live near border states... STFU no one works as hard as hispanics and states like california would grind to a halt without them.
- Babazoz, on 11/24/2007, -12/+47Give the guy citizenship. He deserves it.
And on another note, why do people try to confuse illegal immigration with legal immigration by suggesting there's no difference between the two? And I absolutely love the euphemistic language these days: Migrants, undocumented workers, etc. Like it or not, there is a process you have to go through to become a U.S. Citizen, and it's one of the least difficult in the world compared to other countries' naturalization laws. If you just walk in without going through that process, you're breaking the law and belittling the effort legal immigrants make to become citizens. - DeadRooster, on 11/24/2007, -5/+34I can hear it now: LOU DOBBS: "An illegal immigrant keeps a 9-year-old boy captive in the Arizona desert..."
- albie, on 11/24/2007, -0/+28My mom has run a domestic employment agency in Southern California for 11 and a half years. While people won't call up and specifically request an illegal immigrant (to work in their home as a nanny or housekeeper), over the years there's been TONS of people who automatically assume that's what they're hiring, and that because of this, think they can get away with paying a slave wage. I personally had to deal with one guy who actually wanted to pay $100.00 a week for a live-in nanny/housekeeper and when I told him he couldn't pay so little, he come back with "But they're illegals -- they should be happy for what they get." It blew his mind when I told him they were in fact legal immigrants. I wish this sort of occurrence was rare, but it actually happens all the time.
- Rodalli, on 11/24/2007, -11/+38I'm sick and tired of illegal immigrants crossing our borders and saving children from certain death. Get the walls built NOW!
- Pake, on 11/24/2007, -4/+30"So... yeah... thanks for saving this kid. Now if you'd be so kind to just turn around and walk back to Mexico." Disturbingly, this is probably what will happen.
- ferrariman60, on 11/24/2007, -0/+25Haha, I'm glad I'm not alone in not having a ***** clue what he was trying to say. I was worried it was just me.
- gbudavid, on 11/24/2007, -10/+35Reuters obviously does This Story is a political statement.
- toastgodsupreme, on 11/24/2007, -17/+42I have no problem with IMMIGRANTS. It's the ones who don't go through immigration services and become legalized I take issue with.
Isn't the army offering citizenship if you enlist? As much as I am against the military machine we've become, I think it's a great chance for illegals to gain citizenship.
This guy possibly saved the life of an American boy, I think he earned citizenship through that act. It's just as noble as fighting for the country. - blablaman, on 11/24/2007, -0/+24I believe he was saying "Trust me when I tell you, this will never be on the front page because this website is dominated by white people that things Digg's background should remain white.
I'm almost ashamed for deciphering that. - mllawso, on 11/24/2007, -4/+28This article is clearly fake. Everyone knows illegal aliens aren't human beings. They're soulless androids designed to steal our jobs and live off of welfare.
/ sarcasm - m0tbaillie, on 11/24/2007, -2/+25Wow, maybe you should trade places with the guy mentioned in the story. I'd rather have "illegal" heroes like him living as a citizen in this country than a "legal" piece of ***** like you.
- BongoShack, on 11/24/2007, -2/+21"Cordova likely saved the boy, Estrada said, and his actions should remind people not to quickly characterize illegal immigrants as criminals." - Point of the illegal immigrant in title.
It's a tragic story, have respect. - ExtremeRyno, on 11/24/2007, -1/+18You fail at sarcasm....At least I hope that was sarcasm....If not, you just fail in general.
- yourmightyruler, on 11/24/2007, -2/+18That's why most immigrants don't even file for welfare.
- acroyear2, on 11/24/2007, -1/+15ru1ofus, you need to understand that many undocumented persons come here not to screw america but because it's a desperate and necessary option for survival. they have no money, they have no jobs, and they need to support a family. for many, if they could afford to come legally, they would. if there was a better program to take in workers and let them work here, they would.
- maddla, on 11/24/2007, -2/+16but.... you like Guacamole?
- revyn, on 11/24/2007, -0/+14BURIED for TALKING like THIS
- JimJD, on 11/24/2007, -7/+21Wow, Jesus does save!
- Rodalli, on 11/24/2007, -2/+15Honestly, yes. Bacon and snow...***** yes.
- Amerijapoxicano, on 11/24/2007, -5/+18Every time I read comments involving illegal immigrants, people always talk about not hating immigrants, but hating the ones that do so illegally. Fair enough, but try to put yourself in their shoes and ask yourself if you wouldn't do the same. Look at all those people trampling each other to get cheap big screen tv's and ask me what this country is all about. The difference is, Illegal immigrants trample over each other to work and send money back to their families. One of Mexico's biggest sources of Gross National Product is money sent to families from the U.S. What do you value more, the U.S. government or your family?
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 11/24/2007, -5/+18Jesus saves!
- Amerijapoxicano, on 11/24/2007, -1/+13Is this a joke? With a name like GuacamoleSan... Oddly, I'm a Mexican-American working in Japan, so your name and comment make me all the more sicker.
- hassanchop13, on 11/24/2007, -1/+13what the ***** are you talking about?
stop with the ****asterisks**** - TalkingBanana, on 11/24/2007, -1/+13You must be Bush's translator for intelligent people.
- ickarus, on 11/24/2007, -2/+14Just because something is a crime doesn't mean it's wrong.
Too many people equate legality with morality, and that's where we get into trouble.
Break a law if it's unjust. It's right there in your most hallowed of legal documents, the constitution - alexkorova, on 11/24/2007, -0/+12Yeahh..... Or all those pilgrims and colonizers, they had to wait years on Ellis Isle because of the really long and precise screening process.....
- Merrick178, on 11/24/2007, -1/+13Exactly. Good people rarely make the media while the bad do. This is the reason blacks looked so bad not so long ago, gang robberies and theft, while the good was left out. This is the reason Middle Easterners look so bad today, car bombings and fanaticism. Stuff like this is really depressing. There are so many good people everywhere but those who watch the media are more interested in the violence than the goodness. Welcome to humanity...
- PeppermintPig, on 11/24/2007, -0/+12Service guarantees citizenship...
If, say, you really wanted to move to Canada, but all the fees and paperwork cost you 65k to get in, and there's NO guarantee that you'll be accepted, would you still apply? - pintomp3, on 11/24/2007, -1/+12until 1924, immigrants were screened and processed at ellis island, only about 2% were denied. over 12 million came through there. only after the "quota laws" did they have to go through the embassies and consulates of the emigrant country. the pilgrims and colonists didn't have to go through any screening at all.
- JEAH, on 11/24/2007, -3/+13yea, but with that logic, the anti-immigration crowd helped save this kid's life by forcing Mexicans across the border illegally.
