- short_man, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7looks like 7 ppl did...
- machrider, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Agreed, this sucks. The old format was simpler to follow, not as ugly, and scrolled smoother in my browser.
- RomulusX86, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1...
- Detritus, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3Yes, now will everyone quit bitching about the comment system? The old one was prone to abuse with stupidly long thread jacking and everyone replying to the first comment because, like a bunch of ***** emo-brats, they are starved for attention and think that everyone needs to read their witty banter.
- GooksBirman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I'm just kind of posting this because i want somebody to reply to it and therefore make another statement that the new reply system sucks. by the way, the article is great

***** this. - asdfasdf, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1This comment system is pretty, but it's a step backwards. All they need to do is give comments the ability to be nested deeper than just one tier.

Provide useful feedback! Remember, the folks at digg obviously liked it or they wouldn't have made it go live.

- slugicide, on 10/11/2007, -80/+19The people who make fun of so-called "emo" kids are the same people who made fun of skaters, wavers and geeks back in the day. Take note: they feed off your ridicule. You are the 'normal' people who provide more amusement to them than they ever will you. You say to them, "You're different from everybody!" They say to you, "You're the exact same as everybody!"
- Toloran, on 10/11/2007, -2/+46They might be different then everybody else, but they are identical to eachother.
- slugicide, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2You're right. Everybody around them will grow up to be different kinds of clerks and cow-orkers and drones in various enterprises. The freakish emo kids will have identical futures creating the bizarre cultural artifacts you love to gawk over.
How dare they be different from everybody else!- t2t2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Sir you forgot your [sarcasm] tags!
- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1LOL no most of the Emo kids will either grow up and move on with life or slit their wrists one time to many and get lucky.
- skulljar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah right. The EMO kids will grow up and have a family and wear golf pants and drive minivans. God knows I did. A small minority of them might be competent artists. The rest are posers trying to be different.
I was like an EMO kid once: I wore all black and chains and I had hair down to my ass. I had black fingernails, piercings, high top black leather boots, even some "guyliner" and my girlfriends black scrunchy in my hair. I wrote awful poetry, lived in the suburbs, and dated a self mutilating attention mongering pathological liar. Now I have 2 kids, served in the military, have a minivan, short hair, and go to church with my wife. I still wear my big black boots with shorts and stick to solid colors, but I've come a long way. I've never made any cultural artifacts, nor does one need to be gothic or emo to make art of any type.
It seems that it's easier to be Emo than it was to be Goth. The goth kids really went out on a limb, whereas emo seems pretty mainstream. If even the jocks and preps have emo hair cuts and can listen to emo pop music, then it's obviously easier to be emo than goth. People in H.S. used to make fun of me for wearing camouflage, then all of a sudden some mainstream ***** wore some camo and then lots of kids that made fun of me started wearing camo to school. At first they had to ask where to get some, then it was on the rack at JC Penny soon enough. - Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Agreed Skulljar, though I still dress like Rivethead now. I wear my camo shorts, doc martens, tshirts and such. Though when I am at work I wear a polo shirt jeans and have my hair pulled back. What cracks me up about the emo kids is that they all look alike yet amongst Goth/Industrial crowd there was difference in how people dressed.
- slugicide, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2You're right. Everybody around them will grow up to be different kinds of clerks and cow-orkers and drones in various enterprises. The freakish emo kids will have identical futures creating the bizarre cultural artifacts you love to gawk over.
- Lisztman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6What if an emo kid reads your comment?
- SirTezzy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The process of natural selection takes place.
- Thing2, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10EXACTLY! They wish they were original. The bottom line is no one has been original for generations. Get over it. People are people - nothing is new under the sun. There will be sad people - happy people - silly people - smart people - stupid people and bullies until the world ends - they've been there since the beginning of civilization and they aren't going anywhere. Personalities make up these archetypes - only problem now is our media perpetuates them and tons of people jump on.
- ThatGirlTasha, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I just want to say-I had my nose pierced in 1988-(this makes me cool)back then it was just me and LIsa Bonet.
I don't know what you would have to pierced to be original today-maybe your liver. - slugicide, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1If you think there is nothing new under the sun, well, I think you need a little less sun.
- ThatGirlTasha, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I just want to say-I had my nose pierced in 1988-(this makes me cool)back then it was just me and LIsa Bonet.
- laserblazer, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5Emoism is like disco for kids. Between the ridiculous clothes (plaid sweaters and thick black glasses frames), the cliquishness and the overt bisexuality, Emo lacks only falsetto-singing males for it to be Disco 2.0.
- ricerfuel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2cool disco 2.0 i like your thinking (stolen)
- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It would give all new meaning if an Emo Band covered "Dancing Queen" then. :)
- Pake, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13No, the people who make fun of emo kids are the one's that tend to understand that being emo is being the same as someone else who is emo and trying to be different. When you take a step back and look in, you'll notice that emo kids create more similarities between themselves than "normal people" create between themselves. There are a hundred shades of red, blue, green, etc, but only one shade of black.
- MrSunshine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Most "normal people" here wear Nike or Adidas shoes, used-look blue jeans, tight fitting t-shirts with cheap nonsensical prints from H&M and use hair gel on a Beckham-like haircut. Quite unique.
- thomascj, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1some day the emo kids will realize that they're all doing the exact same thing they're rebelling against -- that day cant come too soon.
- slugicide, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Emo kids are rebelling against normalcy. If you think rebelling against normalcy is what everybody is doing, well, you're abnormal.
- dodus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8It's not rebelling if you can buy it at Hot Topic.
- slugicide, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Emo kids are rebelling against normalcy. If you think rebelling against normalcy is what everybody is doing, well, you're abnormal.
- slugicide, on 10/11/2007, -11/+1"being emo is being the same as someone else who is emo and trying to be different"
You don't understand them. Replace the word "emo" with "authentic."
The entire point of being emo (which used to be called goth) is to be unafraid of embracing the emotions that people like yourself actively ignore. Get it? For you, every color is acceptable, except black. For the emo kid, every color is acceptable, even black. That they spend so much time feeling "black" is part and parcel of being a teen. Hell, I would say of being human. You, Pake, need to look at these kids and thank them for allowing humanity to express the full range of its emotions. If it weren't for them, everyone without a smile would be locked up--a bunch of Frances Farmers.- dodus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6No, emo kids are not authentic. They might think they are authentic, but they're even more phony than the kids who realize they're all the same. No, emo is not the new goth. No emo kids aren't embracing their emotions, they're just being narcissistic. You really have no idea what you're talking about. For starters, read up on the history of punk.
- thebellmaster1x, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Slugicide, I'm a teen, and I don't have any of these depressing emotions that I fail to "embrace." Additionally, color doesn't affect my emotions, so I really don't give a ***** if people wear black occasionally. When they wear it daily, they're just following this trend, not being original.
- DrDabbles, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Uh, no. NO! Emo != goth. Not even close, assclown. In order to be equal, you first need a definition. GOTH has no definition. c'mon. Oh, and you're telling me that all those *****-tastic bands playing emo rock are just like Marylin Manson? No. I think not.
Oh, and I do enjoy your cereal-box psychology. Very nice.- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Manson is not goth. Manson is Shock Rock and even then Alice Cooper did a much better job. Goth bands would be Incubus Succubus, BlutEngel, Love Spirals Downwards. etc etc. Don't insult the Goth or Industrial by associating that butt rocker Manson with the genre.
- GamerzCorner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Life is to short to be EMO!!!
Smile once and a while you might like it and for god sakes give your sister her jeans back!
- shadow9939, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2It doesn't take much to amuse me (e.g. that slingshot flying monkey), so I am pretty sure that I don't provide more amusement to the clinically depressed than I could derive from them.
- HotttCarl, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1You're so unique...just like everybody else.
- pcronin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That was my high school year book quote....
"I'm unique just like everyone else"

- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1In the words of Papa Titus "YES WUSSY"
- Toloran, on 10/11/2007, -2/+46They might be different then everybody else, but they are identical to eachother.

digg me down for posting that overused joke. - laserblazer, on 10/11/2007, -16/+5Emoism is a way for wannabe-non-conformist kids to alienate adults. It's as cliquish as gothism, as gay as a Young Republicans club and ultimate as shaming as manning a glory-hole.
***** Emo.- lickmygiggle, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Definitely agree. Only did you notice that whilst trying to be non-conformists, they went ahead and made themselves all look the ***** same? Way to conform emo-'tards.

Who knew alienating adults can stunt one's intellectual development? More to cry about, I guess.

- emacilat, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19LOL! Openly Gray!
- Goombellaofgoom, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1It makes sense right after "Closet Gray" and "Coming-Out Gray."
- thefoxbox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Yeah, coming-out gray was pretty humorous, too.
- laserblazer, on 10/11/2007, -18/+16Looks like a lot of wannabe Emos in this thread.
You're not deep, you're morose ***** who lack the courage to be individuals.
Alienating adults will stunt your development and you'll wind up small-minded and whiny when you, too, are an adult - a certainty.
Also, you're too weak to commit suicide, so for God's sake stop talking about it. You lack the conviction to do anything real, so you whine.- metallikop, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Awesome.
- ringo380, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I actually un-hid all the comments above yours trying to find the emo posts you mentioned so I could read them for entertainment, and it was pretty much just slugicide's comment.
Who the ***** are you talking to?
- Raistlen007, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2The site coudn't take any more and finally killed itself.
Digg rejoices. - arsheroica, on 10/11/2007, -9/+20Wow, emo jokes, that's ...refreshing. This might have been funny, or relevant back in 2001 or 2002, but somehow I doubt it.
- pronouncable, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Digg users making fun of another group of people. Truly meta.
- heynoop, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5seriously... i clicked on this thinking 'oh let me guess, it's going to be a bunch of black and grey crayons'... LOL GIT IT CAUSE EMO PPL ARE SAD HAHA
- laterallateral, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Seriously now, where do these stereotypical "emo" kids live, guys? I live in a pretty big ***** city and I've NEVER seen kids whine and behave the way these alleged "emo" kids are said to behave. Do these kids come knocking at your door on sundays and whine about slitting their wrists? Honestly what's sadder, stereotypical teenage angst or people that twist these stereotypes into fictions so they have something to guffaw about? My advice to the latter is this: Go throw a brick in somebody's face, then you'll have a REAL enemy and REAL ***** to worry about.
- VanillaStarfish, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0We had a bunch (7 or 8) of stupid emo ***** that lived next door in our complex. Most of them were runaways and under-aged. They were just evicted last week for being gay emo *****. Or maybe because they were up and partying every ***** night and slept during the day.
I always fantasized about pouring sugar in their gas tank and taking a dump on their hood. But they moved out while I was a work one day.

- pcronin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I like Penn's "heaven and hospital" explanation... across the wrist is hospital, and along the vein is heaven (well.. if you believe in such tripe...)

- H0tKarl, on 10/11/2007, -13/+9Emos are the new hippies. Their only purpose is to take up space.
- itseffinkasey, on 10/11/2007, -10/+9Oh haha funny. I guess I missed the point where it became funny to make fun of emo kids when your in your ***** 20's... People have been calling me emo since someone came up with that word, you lame asses are just afraid to be different. You know emo isn't even a genre... its in every type of music now and then. Grow up people.
- k3vin187, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10you should probably write about this in your poetry journal
- Thepirateking, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5Hey emo boy, Rippy the Razor wants to remind you that it's down the street, not across the avenue!
- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1ROFL I have that Tshirt! I wear it here at work in Fallujah. Best part was I had to explain what it meant to a few marines who loved the idea.
- ringo380, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Wow, since when did Digg become a middle-school locker room?
- TCommonSenseM, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Since when was it anything else?
- heynoop, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1wow, hey, k3vin and thepirateking, are you 16?? seriously. you sound like high school jock meat heads. "huh huh lets make fun of this kid yeah bro"
- keepingitcivil, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1He's essentially setting himself up to be made fun of. I don't really give a damn, and I'm not going to join in, but when you impose on other people's stupid humor, you're bound to get yourself picked on. If itseffinkasey is indeed as unique as he wants to be, then he should start by not being offended by others making fun of a stereotype he has been associated with in the past. If he's truly separate from the stereotype, he should have no reason to be offended at all.
- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Waaahh I am emo. I don't have the fashion sense of goth and most of our women look like men. No wonder I look like a flaming homosexual with my tight jeans and eyeliner. Hell Emo music even sucks. Rather listen to some decent Industrial or Goth.
- russelbutt, on 10/11/2007, -5/+6i'm so emo i could cry..
love it.. - gamebittk, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1***** that. Digg just shut down the fornt page to fight another revolt. Here's an honest, general opinion that doesn't attack digg in any way. http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Why_the_new_Digg_comment_system_sucks/
- Goombellaofgoom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Just to let you know, Digg users generally frown on plugging your own stories.
Especially when said plugging is done with off-topic spam.
- Goombellaofgoom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Just to let you know, Digg users generally frown on plugging your own stories.
- sonstone, on 10/11/2007, -7/+15Congratulations all you "emo" haters. You are getting off on mocking a caricature you have created, all the while missing that "emo" lives in almost every successful punk/pop/alt rock album in the past few years. You probably own these albums and don't even know it...
- gemadouble, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Every song have an emotional lyrics.
Listen to Tough Guy Hardcore and continue digging.- ateoto, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Thats the issue, to classify a band as "emo" doesn't necessarily mean it has emotional lyrics.
- Tourney3p0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1To classify a band as "pop", it doesn't necessarily have to be popular.
- DarthMalcontent, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10"You probably own these albums and don't even know it..."
No, this is Digg. We downloaded 'em. - LostOnion, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Somewhere in the Digg bylaws it states that EMO kids are exempt from any form of tolerance and are therefore open to brainless ridicule which supposedly makes the commentor at least feel superior to one social subset.
- keepingitcivil, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0Let them mock their caricature, then. Who are they hurting if they are the ones who created it?
- Tourney3p0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Successful punk album in the past few years?
Someone obviously has never heard punk.- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1LOL agreed Tourney, alot of these kids have never heard of the Misfits, Bloody Stools, Black Flag, and the like. Hell I love when morons talk about Goth or Industrial music and mention Marylin Manson or Nine Inch Nails. Then again idiots will always compare their bubble gum pop music to the genre and never admit that it sucks.
- sonstone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm talking about what is labeled as "punk" over the past few years. I'm not in any way comparing it to what "punk" was, but what the term embodies now. Hence the phrases "successful" and "last few years" in my post. Traditional "punk" albums don't sell anymore, but yeah you are awesome because you listen to "real" punk rock. Oi Oi Oi, whatever...
- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Dropkick Murphys are still around going strong. I am debating on flying back to Boston next St Patty's day for their show.

/anger- slugicide, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2No *****: if you're different, you're scum.
- blizzardice, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2But if you kiss another guy its ok, your emo.
- slugicide, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2No *****: if you're different, you're scum.
- conna, on 10/11/2007, -7/+32How many emo kids does it take to fix a burnt out light bulb?
None. They would rather sit in the dark and cry...- Urusai, on 10/11/2007, -6/+17I wish my grass were emo, then it would cut itself.
- laserblazer, on 10/11/2007, -9/+7Emo gimps make themselves as detestable as possible because they thrive on the attention.
An attention whore is an attention whore. Quit whining about getting the hatred you so crave.
Now go jerk off to Depeche Mode and die in an autoerotic asphyxiation accident, you miserable *****.- mporcheron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4If I understand your ambigious comment correctly, 'm sorry, but you deserved to be buried. I'm not Depeche Mode fan, but they are in no imaginable way, emo.
- ateoto, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Depeche Mode? ***** seriously? And I thought I got pissed when people referred to Fall Out Boy as Emo. Jesus ***** Christ man!
- Mu99ins, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0Kicked in the Head, the movie
- konekokid, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2gay when the colors of goth become emo. emo is gay.
- blizzardice, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3So is goth.
- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No the gayest music is stil Buttrock
- blizzardice, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3So is goth.
- krakkinem, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20boy, all this emo crap really makes me miss the grunge movement of the early 90's. Sure, I hated it at the time, but torn jeans and raggedy flannel shirts sure beats all this mopey, whiny, tranny stuff. I can't drive down the street at 4:00 pm without seeing hoards of these kids.
P.S.: Emo chicks are hot.
P.P.S.: Is this new comment system just part of a plan to discourage people from replying?- goffy59, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I totally agree with you. Alice In Chains *heart*. I know I'm emo for saying that lol. But whatever, grunge bands simply rocked. Then again Alice in chains wasn't exactly grunge, it was hard rock. But some think of the chains as grunge. Sound garden!! Pearl jam. All wonderful bands. Now music is just *****. Whens the last time a band like led zep came out?
- Downpour, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3Goffy, Emo was a breakoff from the Hardcore genre.. Not grunge. And definitely not what you hear today.
For a good example on what Emo should still be, check out Circle Takes the Square. Real Emo done right.- Branyers, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Sunny Day Real Estate, seminal emo and from Seattle circa 1990s.
- JEWestbrookJR, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Circle Takes the square ***** owns... but really, when the term 'emo' was adopted, it wasn't really representing what it does today. Emo would have been more like the appleseed cast, cat power, sufjan stevens, iron & wine, and stuff like what. It some how turned into "girly guys that like hardcore"
- blizzardice, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2Emo is stupid and wrong anyway you look at it. Look, life sucks get the ***** over it. Go wear some colors, you aren't dead yet. If you wonder why people don't like you, its because you are ***** depressing. Your parents don't suck, you suck. At least they don't have to cut themselves because things don't go their way. I mean I'm sure they didn't want a fag kid that wears nothing but black with a flock of seguls haircut.
- happyman987, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5well... instead of repeating how ridiculous the emo culture is, im gonna just say, i havent laughed this hard for a while...
- ghall, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Classic!
- thatscooldude, on 10/11/2007, -8/+18if your emo and you know it kill yourself
if your emo and you know it kill yourself
if your emo and you know it and you really want to show it
kill yourself- coasterswim, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5You missed a line.
- flamingmb, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2If you actually sung this to an emo they would tell you how wrong you were and thats why they are sad, and it would inevitably lead back to how conformist you were and how you made them feel like ending it all, thus proving the song right.
- baucat15, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2When i see emo kids getting beat up it makes me sleep better at night.
- Chr325is, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2hahahahaha +1
- StrangeFamous, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2You guys are morons. Try getting beaten up yourself over the clothes you wear, then see if you still want to make the same dumbass comments.
- Jagdwulfe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Well if Emo kids stopped whining and fought back maybe they would not get beaten up over their clothes. It is sad when Goths mock you.
- baucat15, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I've takin my beating's over the years my friend and guess what....i dont wear tight as jeans and eye shadow to make up for the fact that I'M A LITTLE BITCHHHHHH.....like all those other emo fags
