Title is inaccurate: the guy is not an 'idiot'--idiots get mauled when they try ***** like that! Look, stuff like that is very risky if you don't know what you're doing, but so is a lot of other stuff, i.e. skydiving, driving (how risky is letting a 10 year old drive vs. an adult who knows what they're doing?), using dangerous equipment (firearms, explosives, chainsaws), etc. Lot's of things are very 'risky' if you don't know what you're doing, and this is obviously one of those things, but my point is that he DID know what he was doing and the skills and balls he showed there very impressive and totally bad ass!

Even when they do attack it is survivable and his team was prepared for that situation. However, the stingray hit him in the heart and it struck seemingly for no reason. It may not seem like it but it was a freak incident.

Just as the cat made a move, he reacted in split second and raised his arms, which made the lion apprehensive about attacking. After several repeats of this, the lion knows that he is not easy prey.

The lion was not taking an aggressive stance at him but if it suddenly did turn I think he would have been too far from the car(towards the beginning of the film).
