Shaving is kind of a quick fix for both problems. Not one that I condone, but given that some cats REALLY don't like being brushed I can see why it happens sometimes.

There can be several reasons - matting and heat being the two biggest (trust me on this - it has made all the difference to our long hair that just went though the 100+ temps in L.A. this last week). However, when you shave a cat, you must leave the whiskers alone. And the whiskers are - basically - all over the face. So the head stays unshaved.
So now you have a cat body with a buzz-cut, and a cat head with all its normal hair and - yes - this looks really silly. - schavira, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No.
