- subliminali, on 01/14/2009, -0/+120you dont trust banks and yet you trust sketchy strangers in a mcdonalds and give them your address.
- Nick217, on 01/14/2009, -3/+84moral of the story: don't eat mcdonald's.
- granolajoe, on 01/14/2009, -2/+49That sucks.
- janinekahn, on 01/14/2009, -0/+44"The suspect then asked her for her address because she said she wanted to send the woman flowers." Oh no. People are so gullible. :(
- Linguo, on 01/14/2009, -1/+36I wish I could charge $100,000 for my hugs.
- IAmTheGuy, on 01/15/2009, -3/+35I got an email from a Nigerian prince wishing me a good day. Then he asked for my address, SSN, date of birth and mother's maiden name. He then stole $100,000 from me. That "good day" cost me $100,000.
- dekenter, on 01/15/2009, -0/+31The 75 year-old woman's mother JUST died?! Dude!
- fearlessfx, on 01/15/2009, -0/+21Who hugged her? Bernard Madoff?
- catalystmotive, on 01/14/2009, -1/+20you gotta be pretty sick to do something like this to an old woman.
- inactive, on 01/14/2009, -4/+23i thought being old was supposed to make you wise.
Or is that just what the old folks want us to believe so we actually listen to their demented ramblings? - PiratingNinja, on 01/15/2009, -0/+17Take the hug, don't give them your address. Genius!
- czeman, on 01/15/2009, -0/+16"Wisconsinites apparently will stoop low enough to scam old ladies..."
I guess this ***** doesn't happen anywhere else in the country, let alone the world. Emily Kaiser, the author of this particular posting, has a few things to learn about the world. - temujin2012, on 01/15/2009, -1/+17. . .
So you don't trust the bank, but you trust the common man? Please...
Choose a bank who is sound (BofA, Wells Fargo), that *****'s FDIC insured anyways... - capnawesome, on 01/15/2009, -2/+17I'm getting pretty sick of far fetched titles like 'a hug cost her $100,000'....no. Getting robbed cost her $100,000. At the very least, telling them where she lived cost her.
- Kravin, on 01/14/2009, -0/+14That's exactly what I was thinking.
Then again, who can turn down a hug? Honestly. - IvanB, on 01/14/2009, -0/+12Nah, Free Hugs all the way!
- haikuFU, on 01/15/2009, -0/+12BofA? Are you ***** insane?
- emt1451, on 01/15/2009, -2/+14I don't feel bad for her. Leaving $100,000 in your house is just plain retarded.
- GregLoire, on 01/15/2009, -0/+11Coincidentally, $100k is exactly how much the FDIC insures your money even if the bank is unable to pay it out!
- DeskFlyer, on 01/15/2009, -0/+10No *****...I normally get at least $500,000 for each person I scam here.
- exoticdigital, on 01/14/2009, -0/+9Absolutely amazing. That is so sad that people will stoop so low.
- dragonrebornn, on 01/15/2009, -1/+10Lessons to learn: Don't hug or interact with strangers, particularly at McDonald's. And don't leave $100,000 just sitting in a metal box.
Thank You. - MichaelLVOrtega, on 01/15/2009, -1/+9The blogger "Emily Kaiser" has a whole bunch of blogs about whats wrong with wisconsin. Did Wisconsin rape her mother or something? LOL
- thegamingguy, on 01/15/2009, -1/+9At least the smiles are free.
- Garciat, on 01/15/2009, -0/+7or what.
- saadkamal, on 01/15/2009, -0/+7Keep your money in a bank...!
- nonstop87, on 01/15/2009, -2/+8I think I can speak for all REAL Wisconsinites in saying that this is a terrible despicable act.
- Bukowsky, on 01/14/2009, -1/+7I heart free hugs!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr3x_RRJdd4 - spanishturtle, on 01/15/2009, -0/+6This is really weird - this girl just writes stories about bad things that happens in Wisconsin and then inserts a quip like "Wisconsinites apparently will stoop low enough to scam old ladies." I guess it's one way to get a little attention when all you do is rewrite articles from AP...?
- ryan83189, on 01/15/2009, -0/+6I don't understand. Did the woman divulge that she had 100000 or what? The way the story says it it seems like she was just looking for any old address to rob, which would not require scamming anyone, just driving around and looking for a good place.
- mibir, on 01/15/2009, -1/+6Are you from this part of the country? You do realize the Chicago is one of the unhealthiest cities in the world, and Milwaukee is one of the healthiest right? Yeah, some people in the north may be hicks, but the same can be said for Minnesota. They're also some of the nicest people I've ever met. As far as traveling to "largish" cities goes, the city of Milwaukee is twice the size of Minneapolis, so get your head out of your ass. And as far as being smug goes, the only one being a jackass here is you. And don't call me a cheesehead. I hate the packers.
- sumsuni, on 01/15/2009, -0/+5I'm sure she'll trust the bank now.
- Pinkertinkle, on 01/15/2009, -0/+5Well she coulda invested it in madoff and it'd be equally gone now.
- kangy3213, on 01/15/2009, -0/+5this makes us wisconsinites sound like total douches, please, author, don't blame an entire state on four people.
- LonesomeFighter, on 01/15/2009, -0/+5just as sick to not know $200,000 is federally insured in banks.... no? not that sick, close though I'd say.
- Samadhi007, on 01/15/2009, -1/+5By "total hicks" you probably mean they don't condescend to everyone around them and treat other people like ***** for the pure sport of it. Those savages!
- Firebird2k6, on 01/15/2009, -1/+5Wow, why are people so dumb?
If you grew up in the depression and are scared of banks...you would know that it was during FDR's administration that FDIC was created under him....insuring your money to, what 200,000 now?
Seriously, just plain idiotic. - explodingtree, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4Who doesn't love a good farming group?
- Skooma714, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4No.
- inactive, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4I would rather trust 7% IMHO
- XenoSNK, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4My dad is like 67 and my grandma is still very much alive. Don't tell me she's on her way out now, she's not even 90. :(
- baudbwoy, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4Told you McDevils was bad for you.
- WanderOn, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4Triple Penetration (in the) Butt?
- kalvinb, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3It wouldn't surprise me if the old woman divuldged that she doesn't trust banks. That information along with "my mother just died" would make it a good chance that there's an inheritance lying around somewhere.
The scammers were probably looking for old people who hate banks. Inheritance or not, old people tend to have a lot of money. And if they hate banks, it's probably in their house in cash. - FreddieD, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3I can only assume the $100k was inheritance from her mother. I can think of no other way how someone that dumb could have so much money.
- XeroXenith, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3Rick rolling. You're doing it wrong.
- Hodor, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3old meme is old.
- julianrod, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3Yeah, I had to read the article like three times to understand it... I thought the scammer said that her mother died, but she would send flowers to the old lady... that didn't make any sense...
