- Tobey, on 10/12/2007, -4/+71Ironic? Not really. A coincidence? Sure. Asking questions and then answering them myself? Kind of annoying. Will I ever stop doing it? Probably not.
- floppypond, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29That's odd, I was just writing my resumé now.
Wonderful - BladeDanger, on 10/12/2007, -11/+37Gentlemen,
To avoid looking like a total moron to a prospective employer, make sure you can spell the word "résumé."
(For those that never had a 300 baud modem, to get that "é" hold down alt, and type 130 on your number pad (the right side of the keyboard, not on top).
Yours truly,
etc - TheBigJ149, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25 It would seem that quite a few Digg users are currently jobless... interesting...
- Angostura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19...and if you are in the UK, remember that 'resumé' is spelled 'curriculum vitae'.
...and if you are on a Mac an é is created by typing option-e e - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18'Bit of a shallow statement. It would seem that quite a few Digg users are in their 20s -- a time in which most everyone, unless you've been born into a well-off lifestyle, is trying to find a stable job to work at for the rest of your life, and others are still trying to graduate college.
- Bluth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Lie.
- crsd36, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8According to most of my professors: various laws and regulations have made it nearly impossible for employers to check references without leaving themselves open for a law suit, so most won't risk it.
- dojob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Résumé is a french word and is spelled with two accented E's. It means summary.
- Clbck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"Why are you digging this guy down? "
Spamming. - Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Wow what a coincidence! I just started a professional résumé writing company 5 minutes ago!
- simpleblob, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Um... Timezone, anyone?
- Geekbeard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Business-coaching web-design makes me want to poke my eyes out.
- mutatron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just include the term "J2EE" somewhere in the body of the resume.
- Metasquares, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@Yogurth:
CV has a different meaning stateside. It typically refers to a much longer document than a resume that is typically used by academics to showcase their research and scholarly achievements. - humanerror, on 04/03/2008, -0/+4... It is as simple as that. If you uncover your natural talents and pick a job that combines them well, you will greatly increase the odds that you will wind up both very satisfied and very successful in your work. Then you can easily write a resume that honestly communicates that you are the best candidate for the job-- because you know you are. The way to make this happen is to enroll in the Rockport Institute Career Testing Program, a breakthrough method that has helped many thousands of people make the best possible career decisions.
Nice advertisement. - manchld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4wasn't it just the second e in resumé that had the accent?
Digg's spell check told me to use no accent though
Who am I to believe?!?! - zclip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3according to thefreedictionary.com it's
re·su·mé
n.
1. A brief account of one's professional or work experience and qualifications, often submitted with an employment application.
2. A summary: a resumé of the facts of the case. - keeperofkeys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Use the Character Map: Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools
- Yogurth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Or just write Curriculum Vitae, and skip breaking Your fingers on keyboard ^^
- tikistyle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm a recruiter for a national employment agency, and that article was full of a lot of crap, but there are a few gems in there.
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORANT THING YOU NEED TO KNOW:
You have 6 seconds to impress me.
I look at hundreds of resumes every single day, and I look for key phrases, words, job titles, etc... If you're applying for, say, an "Inside Sales Rep" position, and you're calling your 3 month outside sales position with the Yellow Pages a Regional Account and Client Sales Manager, and you're 2 months out of college...we're calling your BS. Call it "Outside Sales Rep."
I want to see all your job titles quickly. Bold them, indent everything else. If you don't have the titles i'm looking for, you're out.
Don't put your job working on Subway on there, and if you really don't have any other experience, PLEASE don't hype it up as something it's not. Format your resume cleanly and simply. Don't put it in tables in Word, just make it clean. If you have what we're looking for, it's being imported into a database. If we can't copy and paste it (ex. .PDF format), you're probably going to be forgotten. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Trying to derail a discussion by spamming an irrelevant link, regardless of how good you think its intention is, is not the way to get one's message across and will most likely produce the reverse effect.
- monomyth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And I always felt bad thinking that recruiters just have no idea.
- Agent_M, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Chamunks: "yes i chose snazzy as my pronoun"
Find out why. :-| - dattaway, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Don't forget to back up your references and crededentials like the pros:
http://www.alibinetwork.com/index.jsp - dattaway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2True, but previous employers CAN give an answer to, "would you rehire this person" and the dates of hire. Its how those two simple questions are answered. A HR person at the old company who says, "he was the best employee we had" is a lot different than a nuetral "yes" or "no" answer. You want them to sell super positive Ebay feedback here.
In the worst case its in the previous employer's best interest not to be called into an unemployment hearing to help counsel the lazy SOB who got fired and caused fights. So they are going to give the thumbs up regardless if they were good are not. - unlivingrolan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Love how they plug themselves towards the end, not that it bothers me.
The amount of spelling/grammar/punctuation errors takes away the article's credibility somewhat. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok..looks like you have spoken commensurate to the amount you got paid for this :)
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"And to avoid looking like a ***** to everyone else, please refrain from telling other people what characters to use when the (at least in the USA) commonly-accepting spelling for the word is "resume"."
@Jammer: When it's written without accents, I always read it as resume, aka continue doing something.
I always thought it was just one accent though. Probably sounded like an idiot on my résumé. - alfardo, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1If you are writing your resume you might want to take a look at this resource http://www.amazing-resumes.com I found it very helpful
- rudynoir, on 12/06/2008, -0/+1I'm a former recruiter and I agree with tikistyle. There is some good stuff in here but also a lot of fluff. No need for this to be a multi-pager.
I tried to distill my recruiting knowledge on this wikihow:
http://www.wikihow.com/Improve-Your-Resume - manchld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was thinking about applying for a job with the secret service, but I know they do extensive background checks. What kind of reference would you give them? Surely they would check your references right?
- levyjl1988, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very Helpful Indeed
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That site needs to employ a real web designer... Horrible! :o
- Rocka89, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Lol it appears that many digg users are not only writing a resume, but writing it in literally the middle of the night. My time right now is 1:10 and the first comment was 8 minutes ago...
- tikistyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That will get your resume in sight, absolutely. Doesn't mean they'l call you if you don't have experience, however! But then again, that should be obvious...
- somerandomnerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry to be off topic- how do you get an é (or other special characters) on a laptop? (ie. with no numeric keypad.)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bet my head on this one coming from usersubmitter.com
- tikistyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's just awful advice, Chamunks. If I got a resume in a .PDF with a scanned parchment background, i would throw it immediately without reading it. If someone can't put together a simple resume cleanly, they don't have the aptitude for the position. Probably. We'll never know huh?
- tikistyle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes but not all, and you can lose any special formatting as well. Some computers don't have Adobe Reader on them, due to admin lockdowns, etc... And some people are just too dumb to figure it out. I end up converting several Word Perfect and Acrobat files a day for other recruiters in the office.
Sad huh? - bonstio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sucks. Only the radio gadget for the google homepage was half good but even that stores your channels in *spit* cookies so your stations are not saved between machines :(
- Jammer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@BladeDanger
And to avoid looking like a ***** to everyone else, please refrain from telling other people what characters to use when the (at least in the USA) commonly-accepting spelling for the word is "resume". - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nobody can write a resume like you! Especially when you are like muvment256 and Email them to possible future employers at this time of night. It shows them you are not afraid to work late hours. =)
- Metasquares, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can copy text from most PDFs.
- joshstomel, on 09/09/2008, -0/+0Hilarious..
Also, check out www.resumebucket.com
It's good for for people to use and share their resumes - Vintagetin, on 04/23/2008, -0/+0Another good resource, The Insider's Guide to VisualCV by Lousie Kursemark (resume expert and career management author). http://www.visualcv.com/www/learning_center/e-book ...
- franksilvan, on 02/12/2008, -0/+0Nice article and ideas. Seems like it will be really useful the next time I'm revising my resume for a job. Hopefully it won't be too soon, but I've got this bookmarked for whenever it crops up. I also found some decent information at http://tipsonwritingaresume.com/ .
- djfeva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just used this, revamped my essay. Sent in some apps on this past Monday. Interviewed a day after. Employed today, Wednesday.
This is wonderful. No longer do I need to lie on my resume'. - cosequin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/resum%C3%A9

Résumé
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A résumé or curriculum vitæ (CV) (from Latin "the course of one's life or career") is a document containing a summary or listing of relevant job experience and education, usually for the purpose of obtaining an interview when seeking employment. Often the résumé or CV is the first item that a potential employer encounters regarding the job seeker, and therefore a large amount of importance is often ascribed to it. -
