- rollem, on 10/10/2007, -3/+52Nice cop cars are almost always seized items from drug dealers, I can't imagine any department would be allowed to pay for such a cruiser.
- swordedge, on 10/10/2007, -2/+41So, did it used to be a drug car?
Now, FAST cars I understand. Chases are short when the cop can outrun everything on the road. - mishabear, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23I remember seeing a statie Corvette one day sitting in the meridian. Like the commenters say, it's likely a donation/loaner.
- cheddarbek, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21It was most likely a seized car that is devoted specifically for chases.
Its just like corvettes. You can't stuff a suspect in there, but you can follow him on the interstate at 120. - LoveWidescreen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Buried as inaccurate. It is most likely (A) from a drug bust or (B) a *temporary* donation from Cadillac. The latter is quite common in order to show off the car and put forth a display of good will to communities (read: advertising).
- silverchrysalis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18this is bloomfield hills, mi, located in the fifth-wealthiest county in the US. their schools don't suck. nothing there sucks expect the yuppies and their little clone offspring.
- gamer31, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18holy *****, why do the schools suck
- Issimmo, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14I fail to see how this helps crime fighting. If it were like a bat mobile though. . .
- hadak, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I recently moved from Wixom to Ann Arbor. Wixom being about 30 minutes from Bloomfield Hills. Ann Arbor about an hour. I'll tell you, first hand, this state is in a serious depression. Company after company is uprooting, or just plain going out of business. I'm a network engineer and IT specialist, and with all the automotive companies going out of business, Pfizer leaving Ann Arbor, and small businesses being squashed, I can attest that there certainly is not a lot of money to go around. Bloomfield Hills is a disgusting place. The people there have a "holier than thou" attitude, and the vast majority of them are foreign to begin with. The fact that the police there would spend so much money on a useless, overpriced, piece of ***** car doesn't surprise me...but it still makes me sick. The roads there aren't fit to drive a junker over, much less a car like that. They should have spent that $100k on fixing them instead.
I guess that's why the Michigan motto is, "last one out, don't forget to turn off the lights." - Nougat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Cop cars aren't generally designed to be fast. They're designed to be durable, so that the car they're chasing at 110MPH will break down before they do. Sure, they do go faster than your average car, but they're not race cars. They've got a lot of extra cooling, reinforced frame and suspension and giant alternators to run all the electronics.
- bigstinky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Exactly. The Woodward Dreamcruise is going on this weekend. I know as well that Ford donated a few Mustang GT's as D.A.R.E. cars to Dearborn Mich. This goes on around here (Detroit area) all the time.
- wierdaaron, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5This is the suburbs of Detroit, where I live. Absolutely anything that has to do with cars here is a publicity stunt by a carmaker.
- gamer31, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6you forgot the part where the Bloomfield Hills school district is the only school district in the county that hasn't had any remodels done to their schools.
- Seaton, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Ambulances do the same thing, so when the vehicle comes up quickly and you look in your rear view mirror, you see POLICE. Backwards unless viewed through a mirror.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I suggest al of you who don't like jokes when it comes to tax money research The comprehensive annual financial report. In fact:

- Daisuke, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4If you lived in Detroit you'd know it's not just any stunt, it's for the Woodward Dream Cruise this weekend.
- SwissCamel, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7When the mayor is caught smoking diamonds and he lights the pipe with a kidney dialysis machine?

and comment:
"they are not real cop cars, they are advertisement vehicles built by the company that manufactures the light bars. they were built with the cooperation of bloomfield hills and serve only as publicity cars... there was a thread about this about a month back" - inactive, on 05/23/2008, -1/+3All the cops in Hoover, AL are driving 2007 Yukon Denalis, no joke.
- Economist35, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2this is why blogs shouldn't be linked....digg's gotta speculate until somebody posts a PROPER link, thanks jenna
- proliance, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3A European car driven by government officials in Detroit?
It would be torched by UAW in an instant. - Vicujozobenaxod, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3How do we know Cadillac didn't donate a few to the department? Plus, not ALL of the department is riding around in these! Guaranteed! Around where I live they had a couple of performance Mustang police interceptors, one unmarked. I'm leaning toward "donated" category, no department in Michigan has that kind of money.
- grenden, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Only on the west coast. Here our cops ride in style.
- bigstinky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3So you can read it in your rearview.
- TomPizzle, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Holy *****, I live in Bloomfield Hills. All i have to say, is that our police cars do NOT look like that. As others have said, it is completely a publicity stunt for Cadillac, there is also a Z06 Vett police car, Ferrari F430 police car as well as Saleen Mustangs, Jaguars, etc. This is for the Woodward dream cruise, they do it every year (the cruise is tomorrow). Its one of the biggest car events in Michigan and the major car companies LOVE to pounce on any tiny bit of advertising they could get. Just to give you an idea, a parking spot at one of the strip malls on Woodward Ave. is over $300. Just to park your damn car. ***** Nuts. But glad Bloomfield FINALLY made the front page of digg.
FTMFW! - duality, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3However, dedicated pursuit vehicles are actually designed to be fast. I once saw a car explicitly marked as a pursuit vehicle. I suspect that it was made out of a Mitsubishi Lancer. For those who don't know, the Lancer was prototyped as a racing car, and the commercially-available models keep the same suspension system as the racing model. Its ideal cruising speed is about 85 MPH.
- Chaulis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3If you have seen their school you would understand why there are no remodels being done. They are just silly how nice they are for public schools.
- Switch07, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Ok... I live in bloomfield hills (i'm posting while sitting here right now) and that is not one of our cop cars. My best guess is that it's because the Dream Cruise is going on this weekend, and woodward goes right through the heart of bloomfield hills. Royal oak (about 5 minutes South of here) has a brand new H3 painted and made to look like a cop car for the cruise. A little further down, theres a brand new camaro. These cars are all donations from the big 3 to be seen for the cruise.
- saranagati, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3apparently the stereotype of digg users never leaving the house is true for me. funny though, if you didn't notice the sirens, the lights, and the car speeding toward you, what makes them think there's any chance of you noticing that it's a police car by the small writing on the front?
- hiphoc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Comprehensive Annual Financial Report are very real, there are 2 sets of books for state, local and the feds. One set tells us how broke they are and how they need to raise taxes. The other shows how they are swimming in money, invested oversears, which country or state the locality has used to incorporate themselves. ***** is scary, and its right out in the open if u look for it.
- proliance, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2They toss them "threw" the window.
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Obviously a seized drug dealer car.
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2You mean, when he eats dinosaur egg omelets sprinkled with diamond dust, because it makes his poo sparkle.
- drafhk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Damn, I'm joining the Police Department.
- Topkill, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4I thought for sure this was going to be a picture of an overweight cop on a Segway.
- bashar129, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I think you mean "...makes his dookie twinkle!"
- pittpat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yeah, and when they got them they tried to argue that they would use the same amount of fuel as a regular patrol car! Hoover has PLENTY of money though!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Personally I think every town should have a Robocop!
- sleepwalkers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Going through Detroit is rarely a treat for the eyes - it's nice that there are a couple of events that make it worthwhile going through the city.
- Beylan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I thing YOU mean to say "Nice cop cars are almost always seized items from those suspected of being drug dealers, without any charges being filed, and no means to recover property."
Pretty common now for them (expecially in southern, high drug areas like Miami and Texas) to just point some shmoe out on the street with a nice car, arrest him claiming he is a drug dealer, seize all his assests like cars, house, bank accounts, then let him go while keeping his stuff.
If he wants his stuff back he has to sue them for it and prove that he isn't a drug dealer. Since its very hard to prove a negative, most of the time they have to just give up and start over, especially when its hard to hire lawyers when you are broke. - Daisuke, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2You are spot on. Driving through any part of Detroit today was a treat for the eyes - it's gotta be the cruise.
- Mardala, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2yep .. I am betting a seizure. Its been going on for years. Not really accurate. I live in a pretty wealthy area and the cops drive regular ol' whatever you see cops driving.
- darlyn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You'd expect them to have a decent site ...
http://bloomfieldhillsmi.net/ - TomPizzle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3@ rollem
You've obviously never been to Bloomfield.
Our city blows money on literally the dumbest ***** you could think of. - jennamalia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1...and, apparently, Economist35, even *after* someone's posted an informative link. ;)
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2If real, 100% chance of it having been acquired in a drug bust. Cost to tax payers, nothing.
- grenden, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1For people with dyslexia.
- parasitewasp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1time to increase taxes...to pay for the PR people to inform us why we need things like this.
- boxxa, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Ok in thinking ahead that the actual car would be used for police work... where do they but the people they arrest? that car is a 2 seater.
