Lisa: Good ol' Bart. Always picks rock. - madpie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35rock beats mirror
- armadilloguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31I tried a variation on the "look ahead" strategy on my girlfriend. It is the one where you always play what lost in the last round. I beat her about 10 rounds in a row. She was totally flustered. Had no idea how I could be doing this. It was of course amazingly funny to me.
It was even better because the game was prefaced by:
me: "hey I read this really cool rock/paper/scissors strategy and I want to see if it works."
her: "you can't have strategy in that game. it's random!" - sonick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28"Rock paper scissors match."
"Alright! Rock beats paper!"
"I thought paper covered rock."
"Nah, rock flies right through paper."
"Well, what beats rock?"
"Nothing beats rock." - meznak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31I understand that Scissors can beat Paper, and I get how Rock can beat Scissors, but there's no ***** way Paper can beat Rock. Paper is supposed to magically wrap around Rock leaving it immobile? Why the hell can't paper do this to scissors? Screw scissors, why can't paper do this to people? Why isn't notebook paper constantly suffocating students while they take notes in class? I'll tell you why: because paper can't beat anybody; a rock would tear that ***** up in 2 seconds. When I play rock/paper/scissors, I always choose rock. Then when somebody claims to beat me with their paper, I can punch them in the face with my already clenched fist and say, "Oh *****, I'm sorry. I thought paper would protect you, you *****!"
- ricree, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25"In RPS circles a common mantra is "Rock is for Rookies""
I wasn't aware that there were rock paper scissors "circles". - Poco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Rock is for Rookies
"Now a clever man would not choose rock because only a fool would start with rock".
"You must know that I am not a great fool so clearly you will not choose paper as I could not possibly select rock"
"I can tell that you are quite cunning and know that I know that you don't think I will select rock so clearly I should select rock to fool you."
"Ah ha, I know what you will choose! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia but only slightly less well known is this: never go against a Sicilian when RPS is on the line!" - rages4calm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Sounds like a gay orgy to me.
- Toon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I will now totally have shotgun forever.
- TopherT, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Do over, I picked rock too.
- unamas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20I can't wait for the 2006 pick a number between 1 and 10 championships!
- stan205, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20This is the first time in a long time that while reading an article posted on digg I've had a sly grin on my face from my excitement. I can't wait to kick some ass at RPS. Great Digg!
- trghpy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17 Zapp: But you forgot one thing; rock crushes scissors! But paper covers rock. And scissors cuts paper! Kif, we have a conundrum.
Kif: Ughh...
Zapp: Search them for paper! And ... bring me a rock! - gabeN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Manipulate your way into winning any dispute!
- cbasst, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Throw the Atom Bomb!

- Jakyll, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12cowbow?
- NotSoBright, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8This strategy is outdatted. Today, with the prevelant use of performance enhancing drugs the RPS tactics of 10 years ago no longer stand.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6not to mention, someone is keeping statistics-wtf? (ok, i mentioned it)
"Haven't a clue what to throw next? Then go with Paper. Why? Statistically, in competition play, it has been observed that scissors is thrown the least often." - LesterCreed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Love it!
- seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am so doing that next time.
- MixMastaKooz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Great!! I just want to comment that Graham Walker is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He came to our RPS tournament at the St. Louis Science Center. We actually had a 5 or 6 year old make it to the semi-finals (out of about 80 contestants)...fun time! We even made a funny video promoting it (I'm Buck in the video)..

- gotkarma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Here's my strategy:
Use a mix of paper & scissors by keeping hand half-open and then claim either/or to your advantage. I don't recommend using this with someone 2 or more times your size. - witechoclat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2u gotsto through teh rock. it shows ure a man
- zeno60, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What a life that must be, training, studying, up until that big moment when you throw rock first and get knocked out...
Ouch...
You'd figure the best strategy would be to not think about it, but how can one achieve such a disconnection of mind and body. - pyro88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2love the site. just remember, Paper beats rock, rock beats scissors, and scissors beats paper, but Chuck Norris beats all 3 at the same time.
- Lutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Fire! fire beats everything.
- light50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Inigo: Fezzik, are there rocks ahead?
Fezzik: If there are, we all be dead. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Guess diggers don't appreciate the difficult postmodern phenomenon of sarcasm.
From wikipedia:
Sarcasm is sneering, jesting, or mocking a person, situation or thing. It is strongly associated with irony, with some definitions classifying it as a type of verbal irony[1] -- stating the opposite of the intended meaning, e.g. using "that's amazing" to mean "that's awful". It is used in a humorous manner, often harshly, and is expressed through vocal intonations such as over-emphasizing the actual statement or particular words. Use of sarcasm is sometimes viewed as an expression of concealed anger[2] or cynicism. - Nearoschyth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The obvious paradox being that everyone will read this and use these techniques and some will realize this and reverse accordingly and still others will realize that other people are realizing and adjust that.
The point is that it is always a game of chance (unless you can catch someone obviously watching for your throws, then it's easy). - themoldofyancy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Pen missle or Tiger hand?

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yes, as you pump your fist chanting "rock, paper, scissors" Chuck Norris spins like a ballerina and delivers a roundhouse kick to your face.

- rcruick, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6a dup, ah man, I hate reading the same story twice, it is like watching the same movie twice Gosh I hate that. Thanks for saving me the agony.
- Tamriel, on 10/12/2007, -11/+9From the article: "Statistically, in competition play, it has been observed that scissors is thrown the least often. Specifically, it gets delivered 29.6% of the time, so it slightly under-indexes against the expected average of 33.33% by 3.73%."
Not that I'm a 'RPC' enthusiast, but I swear I've noticed this before. Same with the Rock is for Rookies rule. I find it interesting that people have been keeping the statistics. A game of Rock Paper Scissors anyone...? Best 2 out of 3. - McGrude, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1deleted. replied in wrong place.
- bigmamaK, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4rock is dead. long live paper and scissors.
