Two holes on "girls"?
I count at least three. Seven if you're feeling really "kinky/weird". - gldfshnpcklejar, on 10/11/2007, -5/+66Can't be that hard to figure out, There is one hole on boys and two on girls. If they ask what you do with such and such device. Say you put it in any of your holes and turn it on. Hell it could be a USB FM radio and they'd do it and enjoy it.

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+39You should keep in mind what the article said. If you're on the bottom selling drugs straight to the junkies, college kids, etc. you won't make anything. There was a similar study done a while ago about how much drug dealers actually make. It was surprisingly low. Unless you're a kingpin, buying ***** direct from the kingpins, or growing your own to sell you will be in for a disappointment. Sounds suspiciously familiar doesn't it ? Yes, I'm looking at you Corporate America.

- LordSkywalker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24Drug dealer: $1.02 million ($813,600 is profit) with fifteen-hour workweeks and no taxes.
Wow. That makes me feel worthless. - DestroyPoseurs, on 10/11/2007, -4/+27@omgwtfroflmaox2
Thats not necessarily true, if you are talking about selling pot and other soft drugs then you are right. But when it comes to other stuff, especially cocaine, if you can get reasonably pure stuff, then you can cut it significantly and make a killing selling it. Especially when you consider the minimal amount of effort involved. Most of the snow dealers I know just sit in their house and wait for clients to come to them. Problem is then you get stuck with massive amounts of cash that you have no way of keeping safe or legal, meaning you can never get a house of a good car. It also means your in danger of getting robbed because you have to keep the cash hidden in your house. I had a friend who got 10k robbed from him because of that. - twangbender, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24too bad the cost of living is 94 % higher
"It's no surprise that the high living costs in metros like New York and San Francisco made them two of the hardest places for employees to make a profit. More money may be deposited into your checking account every pay period, but when it's time to pay the rent, your checking account may be empty. Salaries in New York City are 17% higher than the national average, but the cost of living is 94% higher. This makes NYC possibly the hardest place to get your bank account into the black. Of course, New York's 8 million residents have found other reasons, such as art and culture, to live in the Big Apple."

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Looks like I am going to risk all my investments and open a sex shop.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17Did you read the part where it says the cabbies only make $12,000 profit? Especially with the high gas prices..
Plus it means your job is basically to sit in a traffic jam for the entire day, every day. - spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14It's like a license to operate a cab, the city only allows a certain number. The cab companies usually buy them up because the number of cabs they operate is limited by it, but if you own your own you have the benefit of either being able to work for yourself, or to switch cab companies easily.
You can also sell them when you retire for a decent amount of cash - anagoge, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12"Pekoh bought a medallion for $190,000 in 2000"
Can someone tell me what the medallion is please? Is it a car? Or an actual badge of some sort? Just wondering.
(UK Digger) - Kevinok, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Thank you for the tips on drug dealing.
- theshaze, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Are you kidding? There a ***** of ways to launder money in this country, not even to mention on the interweb.
Yes... keep it illegal, hell, wage a WAR on the drugs! Make people feel ashamed to use or abuse drugs in any way, like to do any at all is to lose control of your will. All to keep making the criminals more money.... hmmm...... - cyclox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Damn! My dreams of moving to the Big Apple and opening a yoga studio have been crushed! Crushed!
- kernelhappy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Something is amiss with some of these numbers. Why would anyone invest $190K to buy a medallion so they could make $12K a year, you can work a 40 hour week at $8.50 an hour and net just about $18K pre-tax. My guess is that tips make a significant portion of the profit and they are not incorporated into these numbers. Same goes for the pizza shop example, they must be grabbing these numbers from returns that don't reflect the cash sales that go south before hitting the books. I know a couple people that own/owned pizzerias and I assure you they do quite well or retired quite nicely as the result of long days.
- eean, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11I don't really see how the math adds up with taxies. It costs $120,000 for your own medallion and you get like 12000-20000 a year profit? Can you even afford to live in New York with that much?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14Seems like 10% is the magic number. Thats about what I make at my business.
- wastern, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12I know its probably not a popular opinion, though this may be a different crowd, but if they just made drugs legal, the government could sell them, our taxes would drop dramatically, and they would undercut the drug dealers putting them out of business...as they should be, and you'd keep a lot of pretty harmless people out of jail saving tax dollars and room there.
There would be a tiny spike in use at first, but in the end everyone that is going to use drugs already does, the law doesn't stop them. I don't use drugs because I like to be in control of my body and think its a waste of money, the law has nothing to do with it and I think most people are the same way
I don't want people walking around coked out all day, but treat it like alcohol. If you want to do it in the privacy of your home, a friends house, or a designated area that has a licensee to give it out then who cares. They took away alcohol once and look what happened....so to fix the problems they brought it back, wouldn't making drugs legal have the same effect.....even if the government didn't sell it...I was just thinking it would be a great way to fund them, people would actually be happy to pay their "taxes" and for those that don't take drugs they get to keep more of their hard earned cash. Everybody wins - wiirdo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I'm gonna be a cab driver that sells meth to my customers while I drive them over to the financial firm that I started.
- MicroBerto, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8It seems to me like buying a medallion in NYC is like buying a house anywhere close to the beach in Los Angeles: It's too late now.
You either got in decades ago when it was crazy- but not yet ridiculous - or you overpay now and it's a complete gamble what kind of profit you'll be able to turn over time compared with other ventures. - kitwaites, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10@wastern:
It might work for some softer drugs like cannabis but it doesn't tend to for harder drugs like heroin - if you're doing hard drugs, you're unlikely to be able to hold down a job, so the government loses taxes and has to pay out welfare. In addition, a lot of junkies steal or do other petty crimes to pay for drugs, so crime goes up.
It's all in the balance. Alcohol and tobacco work because, as long as they're not abused, they are pretty social drugs. Heroin isn't. - wyrdness, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7The profit was after paying the interest on the loan for the medallion. The medallion itself can be sold for a profit at a later date.
- samk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6It's also a physical badge that's bolted to the hood of the taxi.
- jguy584, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8What sucks though is that its hard as hell to use that money without drawing attention from the feds.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@Poseurs
You have a point, I guess it depends on the clientèle as some drugs are designed to be less expensive than others. I knew a guy who got caught with 40 kg of coke and was always talking about how BMW's weren't ***** and he used to drive lamborghinis, etc. but then again, the average dealer doesn't keep that much on hand so I'm guessing he was a bit higher up the food chain than the guys you see on C.O.P.S. And yes, your'e absolutely right about not being able to get a good house and car. This is why alot of dealers end up living in ***** apartments or the ghetto or places where the landlord generally doesn't ask where you're getting the money for rent or does any kind of background check. This is why you don't hear of many trap houses or meth labs being raided in really nice neighborhoods. It's not that these guys can't afford them, it's just that they have no way of explaining HOW they can afford them without the feds setting up shop across the street every night taking pictures. This is also the part where money laundering comes into play, but it definitely gets more complicated than that.
Also, outsider, the cops may know about it, but they don't bust them until these guys are big enough fish to fry. Why send some guy to jail for a few years on a felony drug possession (caught with a small amount) when you can lock him up for life on trafficking and laundering charges (caught with a large amount and tons of cash) with the strong possibility of catching their bosses. Then there are the other people who know about them, the armed robbers who decide they want in on the action. The few dealers I've known over the years were literally one stick up away from being in debt to their higher ups for a lonnng time.
Again, this is just from my experience and I don't run around with dope boys and kingpins so take what I've said with a grain of salt. - pintomp3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6another really scummy thing that happens to cabbies is people who get to their destination and run. robberies do happen, not as often as it used to though.
- Rooster99, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I counted 8....
- blimpmaster, on 10/11/2007, -9/+14Damn, I need to start selling drugs. Again.
- fearlessfx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6wow... eye opening article.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@wastern
A tiny spike is incorrect. If you ascribe to any economic theory there would be a rather large spike in demand if drugs were legal. I'll assume we're just talking about just pot. Coke, meth, pain pills, etc. should not be made legal at all. Granted, I love my lortabs and I'm all for taking a tab or two, but they're just too dangerous to be made widely available like alcohol.
Other than that I think those are logical solutions you have. - Ratteler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3stathound? Your mom reads Digg?

The biggest drug dealers are already totally legal.
They don't call themselfs drug dealers though, they prefer the name "Pharmaceutical" instead. - UGM2099, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3They cover that in the article.

They buy the medallion so they can bank on it in a couple of years when they can sell it for thousands more than what they paid for it. The yearly income from the cab will just feed their family until that time. - digger28, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3"Why would anyone invest $190K to buy a medallion so they could make $12K a year?"
Resale on the medallion a few years latter. Or you can lease the medallion to another cab co. and have monthly cashflow. - user777, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3not that many profession where your car is your office
- cjswerve, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@kernelhappy (#7062607)
The medallion was an investment. The article stated that a medallion had recently sold for $600k. The driver had purchased his medallion for $190k, so besides being the only way to own your own cab it is also a sound business investment. -
