A shot glass is about 30mL., or about 28 grams (30 is close enough), so you'd have to eat over 40 in order to get one shot. How many candies are you prepared to get your buzz?

Presumably that's not enough to make the whole tray of candies pictured, but even multiplying it out you couldn't have more than like 4 shots in that whole tray. You'd be hard pressed to eat enough of these quickly enough to get drunk.

- bradleybuda, on 10/23/2007, -0/+17No, the vodka is added after the syrup is cooked. The vodka is added when the syrup is at 85 deg C and cooling. Since the boiling point of the alcohol is around 78 deg C, a small amount might boil off while the syrup cools to 78, but it won't be very much - most of the alcohol will be retained.
- jwgjr, on 10/23/2007, -0/+16As you add room temperature vodka to the sugar solution, its temperature will very quickly drop below ethanol's boiling point. The fact that a significant amount of alcohol is left is actually crucial to the creation of the pill. In fact, using a lower alcohol liquid (like wine) would even cause the pills not to form.

If 4 shots gets you drunk, then good for you, you might be able to eat enough of these to feel something. But even if 4 shots gets you drunk, you'll be consuming 1Kg of sugar in the process. Have fun with that. I'll stick to more conventional routes to inebriation.

- sychodelix, on 10/23/2007, -8/+19The alcohol is pretty much cooked out since it's cooked into a syrup, people. It mostly sounds like a really nasty tasting candy. If I were to do this, I'd much rather use a good sweetened whiskey.
- hasansexy, on 10/23/2007, -0/+11Ofcourse i meant its 52 grams of vodka, i think it would be about 60 ml of liquid. 40% of that is pure alcohol, so 24 ml pure alcohol, 24*20=480ml, it would be 2 glasses of beer.

Once you get used to that you seriously cannot tell the difference between water and vodka. Of course we decided to stop when I started puking up blood one night..... but it was good times while it lasted. :)
