- chimona, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19I signed up for Joe's Goals. First goal, make some more goals.
- johnsto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I tend to wake up about 6am.
Why? Because for some reason I get anxious that I forgot to set my alarm for 7am (which I check before I go to sleep) and wake up in a slight panic just to make sure. I then spend the next hour trying to get back to sleep, just to be woken by my alarm. - PSPon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+146am is about the time I go to bed at, I need this also.
- VeryBoredNow, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Let me put that whole article in 2 sentences.
Prepare your clothes the night before and set 2 alarm clocks. Make sure that one clock is on the other side of the room so you have to get up to turn the alarm off.
THERE YOU GO! NO MORE WAKING UP TIRED!!!
Give this man a Nobel Price!
The best way to get up feeling better is figuring out your sleeping cycle. When you sleep your brain falls into a deep state of sleep and then slowly comes out of that deep state. That process takes about 40 minutes. If you wake up while you're still in the deep state of sleep you'll feel like the rest of us, but if you time your sleeping time right you should feel much better waking up. You can try this by going to sleep at different times during the week and just try to see what time suites you. - smedrick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9"Give this man a Nobel Price!"
$0.50!
You're right, though...it's a dumb article. I was expecting something more than just "wake up earlier". - tulpe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7i get cramps, every time i read web 2.0.. please someone programm a firefox "web 2.0" filter extension
- violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Absolutely, most valuable part of this post actually. Anyone checking the comments first, skip the article and just go straight to Joe's Goals:
http://www.joesgoals.com/ - iwankalot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Man are you people for ***** real. Why does everybody these days need a list on how do to the most basic of human functions. I am going to blog about how to take a piss and post it. Freakin lame. really.
- ceeam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"..You must not confuse your body. 6AM every day..."
A-ha. Tell that to politicians who insist on preserving daylight saving ***** switches twice a year. - misinformation, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5So he learned to use an alarm clock.
Someone give him a banana. - mc900ftjesus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Crap, I think I'm still on Web 1.4. Can someone post the link to the new version of the Internet?
- lcarsdeveloper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I go to bed at 5 or 6 (or 7) am, and wake up around 1 or 2 pm. (11pm to 6am are my best hours for programming).
As a result, breakfast is now lunch, lunch is now dinner, and dinner is a cup of coffee. So even though I should be eating dinner at around midnight, I don't, and end up skipping a full meal each day.
I've lost almost 10kg. And I thought being unemployed would be a bad thing...
Now all I need is some money :) - alberonn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Am I the only one who'd rather sleep?
- JohnboiWaltune, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is easy, wake up at 5AM and go running every day. Have someone force you to do it for the first few days if you have to. Your body will quickly acclimate.
- superrcat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Not enough hours in the day? Need to get some more time to concentrate on your work?"
It's ironic that people who don't have enough time are willing to waste their time following a list to make more time.
Instead of wasting your time following the list, do what you were wanting to do, which you don't apparently have time for. Better yet, just get up when your alarm clock goes off. - The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Web 2.0! More style! Now with less actual content!
- violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What? I don't understand? Maybe I should turn off this new filter I have...
- jdpixel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There can never be enough articles about sleep on digg - (I'm being sincere BTW)
best tip that's worked for me was to wake up at the same time *every* morning and only go to bed when you feel tired enough to sleep - but I confess I prefer to sleep through to noon - AM just blows :) - pambuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is much better way to become an early riser (probably was on digg before):
http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/05/how-to-become-an-early-riser/ - LandStander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just use my cell phone's alarms. Of course if anyone tries to call me in the morning when Im asleep I instantly just grab the phone and open and close it...then of course later I have to let them know I thought it was my alarm going off and I didnt mean to hang up on them. But thats what they get for calling me in the morning.
Doesn't work too well when Im on call either....but ***** them, damn nurses. - LandStander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1'Your body will quickly acclimate. ' .....or shut down and die. :D
- mathyoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36am isn't early-that's sleeping in for me. AM rocks-it's cool, crisp, and no one's around to bother you.
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is a good way to wake up at 6AM every day.
First off -- wake up at 6 am everyday, set two alarms whatever you have to do. 6AM is _not_ variable! You must not confuse your body. 6AM every day.
Every night, go to bed when your body tells you to. You know you're too tired to be awake if you cannot read an entire page from a book. Learning to listen to your body is the hardest part of getting enough sleep. It's a rough couple of weeks but with some patience you'll be able to know exactly when you need to go to sleep so you can wake up at 6AM and feel refreshed and alert. Oh -- and you'll never really have to go to bed at the same time. It's always variable, just whenever you're tired enough. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i dont find this article informative at all. I am 19 years old, and finished my freshman year of college in May. Here was my average wakeup schedule in college: Mon, Wed, Fri: 12noon. Tues, Thurs: 10am. Sat, Sun: 1:30 or 2.
had to start my summer job a week after college. Wake up time? 5:45 am. how did I do it? simple...just set my alarm and wake up. Sure it was tough the first few days, but after that it truly did become habit. Ive gotten to the point where i usually wake up around 545 even without my alarm set (i'm about a month and a half into my 545 wakeup routine).
There's not really any secret to waking up when you need to (consistently) other than just doing it. - vortec42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Does anyone know how to have my phone call me at a certain time? (I live in the U.S.)
- victorp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah same, I absolutely love the morning, if I sleep past 7, I get very pissed
- tryferos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"Boast widely about your new early-birdiness."...nice, yeah that will get ya up early every time.(/sarcasm)
Like people are saying this is a lame article. All it takes is getting enough sleep, actually getting up when your alarm goes off, and most importantly, having the determination and desire to keep getting up every morning early. I get up every day around 4:30AM, and its not because I boast about it to others, it because I am motivated to get up. I work 12+ hrs at work everyday, which earns me some nice OT pay, as well as the fact that at 5:00AM, there aren't any whiny users there to bother me so I can actually get work done. (and occasionally post digg comments :P) - Garf13ld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I really must give this a go. I never seem to get out running after work these days because I always get 'dragged' to the pub. Now if I could do it in the morniing *before* work...
- lbeaty1981, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My thoughts exactly. Actually, 6 am is just about right for me, although I may sleep in until 6:30 or 7:00 on the weekends. My only problem is my energy tends to start fading in the early afternoon, so I usually get a lot less accomplished then. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
- mstibbe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for all the comments, friendly and critical. Lots to think about here.
- GooBoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The "After one month, it becomes a habit" didn't work for me. I car pooled for 3 years with a guy that forced to be up on time, at 5:45 am every morning. He moved away, so I lost my motivation to not piss him off. Now I get up around 7 am. *SIGH*
Digg for the article anyway, if it works for one other person than its a victory. - lcarsdeveloper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No, I'm fine, I've only been doing this for 2 months. I can change my schedule easily, I did it a week ago when I needed to get up early to go to the bank. I will get off this schedule if I get a new job.
- saudama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That can come in handy for busy days. Dugg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1im pretty sure google desktop has a text message reminders plugin. I know it's different from a call but I would think you could make your text messages ring with ringtones anyway. Im pretty sure my razr can.
- peorth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm digging it because of the site this guys suggest (Joel's Goals) :)
- techchic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would have liked to seen a note on the homepage that this was free...I almost did not sign up because I thought there may be a charge...but it is FREE!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Note: bitbomb.com is the site which can be used without the plugin
- NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah my problem isnt getting up at 6:00am. its not going to partys starting at 12:00am with work the next day.
- dreserd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I never bought this because it was kind of expensive. But here's an old review of a watch that supposedly wakes you up at the best time.
http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/review/sleeptracker_watch - PaxRomana, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3God I need this.
- release, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I don't see how this will help me... I get up early (6am ish) and here I am at 22:44 still doing work...
- alienz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You might want to get off that schedule ASAP. It makes finding a job a lot harder and once you do find a job I doubt they'll like you working from 11pm to 6am unless of course you're telecommuting half way around the world :)
- talktechtoo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Good read, shall have to check out Joe's Goals
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1*sniff sniff* comment spam!
