By 16 the kids knows what he is doing, and so long as he wasn't forced (as that would be rape) then I fail to see an issue. Firing or transferring the teacher would probably be appropriate but jail time? Give me a break. My tax dollars have better uses than paying for some teacher who ***** a 17 year old to sit in jail for two years. Victim-less crime much?

I have read several stories where the 16 or 17 year old girl came onto the new teacher and was flat out offering sex and the guy still goes to jail for rape. Just because the US legal system tends to demonize men doesn't mean these women should be treated even harsher.

Even at 16 (younger?), people are able to make relatively balanced choices about sex. Yes, some might regret it -- but they could also regret it at 25. Or 40. The law shouldn't protect from regret, it should defend against true coercion, true abuse of authority, or true manipulation via drugs/alcohol.
Furthermore, I think that most of the people defending these teachers are probably men, not feminazis. I certainly would have been more than happy with myself if I'd gotten any at 16. I probably would have been a lot more confident, happier, prouder, and would have looked back on the event fondly for the rest of my life.
I mean, if the students themselves raised charges, that's one thing. But in a lot of these cases, that's not what's happening. Anyone who calls it manipulation by "predators" have no clue how much guys want to be "prey" at age 13 (the latest). All these dudes got taught to really do it right years before most of us honed the skills. You just know these chicks how to get down. My jealousy is unbearable. If you are in your early 20's and single, find an older woman for a fling, gotta do it at least once.
