- tastypickles, on 10/27/2007, -8/+129... and sells them to the Canadian military. :)
- shifty2, on 10/26/2007, -4/+110the next thing will be spamming everyone to send money to finish getting the helicopter fully functional to retrieve gold and diamonds left by the death of a relative in which you will receive a generous portion of.
- latrosicarius, on 10/25/2007, -2/+76"reasonably intelligent"? He built a working helicopter.... I think that qualifies him for something a little better than "reasonably".
- TeaBaron, on 10/26/2007, -0/+57Thats interesting that it seemed easier to build a helicopter than a car.
- xkorbin, on 10/25/2007, -3/+58No, no. This is the same guy that is sending money to my retirement bank account. He's completely kosher, and needs a guy in America to help him. Don't worry about it.
- AriaStar, on 10/26/2007, -11/+54As much as I'd like to make a smart-ass Nigerian comment, I'm going to give the guy props. Not all Nigerians are scammers, and this one sounds reasonably intelligent.
Although internet access in Nigeria is a pretty frightening idea.... - realclark, on 10/25/2007, -16/+50We don't need fancy war machines up here. We spend our money on more important things...like health care. Enjoy your national debt.
- GeorgeR999, on 10/25/2007, -8/+40May his God be with him.
- stklaw, on 10/25/2007, -0/+32It's more practical than strapping rockets to wooden x-wing models.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -1/+31I think a story like this helps counter all the negativity that Nigerians are out there to scam westerners for their money. Kudos to this man. Very inspiring.
- firstprimate, on 10/26/2007, -2/+30There'd be less Nigerian scammers if there were fewer dumb Americans...
- Kale27, on 10/25/2007, -0/+24The lost member of the A-Team.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -2/+23May God be with all the tall people around. It rises only upto 7 feet high.
- ikrit2006, on 10/25/2007, -2/+18I'll stick with my roflcopter
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -0/+14Hey, if I had a Honda that flew 7 feet in the air, I'd be plenty happy. And I imagine Nigerian roads aren't as good as the ones in Los Angeles. So a helicopter might well be practical. Also, it's a chick magnet. "Hey baby, want to fly no more than 7 feet off the ground with me?"
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -0/+14He will fly in, in his helicopter.
- Smight, on 10/23/2007, -0/+12Needs more duct tape and less functionality.
- inobla, on 10/23/2007, -0/+11You don't think he really financed that project by fixing cell phones do you? ^_^
- footodors, on 10/25/2007, -2/+13We must give him visa to move to this country. He would be an asset.
- ZenFountain, on 10/23/2007, -0/+11Nigerian Red Green?
- hurben, on 10/25/2007, -0/+10This is a great idea.. I am going to build something with my new found internet knowledge! A submarine or zeppelin perhaps.. too easy.
- aximbigfan, on 10/31/2007, -4/+14Sorry, Im a heli pilot. This guy did not build a functioning heli.
1. I dont see any anti torque mechanisms, ie tail rotor.
2. Helis are VERY complex machines and are VERY hard to fly. You dotn learn how to fly one from a movie.
3. I dont see a swashplate or any other method of controlling the rotors pitch in the images.
4. It does not take 8 months to build a heli. It takes more then a few years, even when it has no avionics/instruments.
5. What exactly is "300 rmp"?? I find it hard to believe that someone who would say this could build a heli. Besides, my aircraft takes a bit more than 300 RPM to take off... say, 800-1000 rpm.
6. You cant build a heli out of spare stuff you have lying around, it doesn't work that way. parts need to be machined first, and more planning goes into it than just joining 2 pieces together.
7. The main rotors must be extremely strong when spinning at RPMs high enough to lift the aircraft.
There are hundreds more reasons why this is fake, but I wont get into that. - inactive, on 10/23/2007, -1/+11"get some airflow, power and you are off."
With the car you need no airflow and less power. - sockpuppets, on 10/24/2007, -3/+12His aunt Lucy left some in the sky.
- cnot3, on 10/23/2007, -1/+10pics of it flying or it doesn't...
- theholyraptor, on 04/07/2008, -0/+8all he has to do is run over them, it's flying at 7ft max. Drop down in altitude and run em over. Imagine the deer in the headlights look when people turn around and see this odd helicopter flying at head level come barreling towards them.
In an unrelated note, does the helicopter only go 7ft off the ground because the engine doesn't have enough power to lift without the assistance of ground effect? - justinkuto, on 10/23/2007, -1/+9Because some dude called Bernoulli wasn't born yet. Seriously though, the physics behind flight is much simpler. A plane is nothing but a powered glider. get some airflow, power and you are off.
- crapmatic, on 10/25/2007, -0/+8Mr. Abdullahi has a great career ahead of him giving "traffic updates on the eight" in Lagos.
- MagikoMyko, on 10/31/2007, -0/+8WOOOOSH
Can you really be so out of touch that you did not get this joke? - Dustmuffins, on 10/24/2007, -4/+12Someone's joke detector is broken.
- shifty2, on 10/31/2007, -0/+8what is wrong with you? did some one "s#!t" in your Cheerio's this morning?
I was making a joke based on Nigerian email scams. - DesertDude, on 10/23/2007, -0/+7I believe you are all wonderful people.
- dacheetah, on 10/23/2007, -2/+8It doesn't say it CAN'T fly above seven feet, it says "which has never flown above a height of seven feet".
My car hasn't done more than about 80 mph, but I'm sure it could cope with 100 mph. Maybe this guy just doesn't feel safe flying it higher.
(That and being the pessimist I am, I don't think his copter actually flies, it has no (visible) tail rotor, so it'd spin, and his description of the take-off process seemed a little off from my understanding of how to fly a helicopter...) - themastersb, on 10/25/2007, -4/+10I think I remember that guy. He was a prince that needed his assets secured by me.
- xtraa, on 10/25/2007, -3/+9blahblahblah... scammer... blahblah... nigeria... blahblahblah... prince...blah...rofl..blah.
This guy is smarter than most of us. - Tiggums, on 10/25/2007, -2/+7Wait wait wait.... Canada has a military?
- bsl4doc, on 10/25/2007, -7/+12So THAT'S where all of the Nigerian prince's deceased uncle's money went...
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -0/+5I guess this story kinda kills all that research and study which concluded that "Black People" are less intelligent than "white" people. All the money used for that stupid study could have been spent touring Africa from the air in a really cool ride!
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -1/+6We should promptly invade Nigeria before this guy makes an atomic bomb...
- bays, on 10/25/2007, -0/+5touche
- t0ny, on 10/25/2007, -1/+6I'm only 6foot and two inches. So I dont have too.
- AceLy, on 10/23/2007, -1/+5You're both idiots.
- Nobaxus, on 10/25/2007, -2/+6Once again someone else has been able to bring to fruition an idea I've had for years. I've always wanted to build my own personal helicopter, glad to see someone out there was intelligent (and resourceful) enough to actually make it happen.
- Cockjuice, on 10/23/2007, -1/+5Thats a lot of cardboard and glue sticks...
- gameforge, on 10/23/2007, -0/+4I believe the bird came before the automobile.
- DesertDude, on 10/23/2007, -0/+4@beyond:
The fact that he constructed it by himself using foreign (non-chopper) parts is proof alone that this man is a genius. If it flew just one foot that would be impressive enough. - AriaStar, on 10/25/2007, -1/+5I work in anti-spam and anti-fraud. You don't have to actually like in Japan to get a .jp.
- stevedclarke, on 10/25/2007, -1/+5DUCK!!
- paulbyrnes, on 10/25/2007, -3/+7It only goes 7 ft because it's made from *****.
- RoloTomasie, on 10/23/2007, -1/+5...dig deeper than headlines, my friend. It does fly, though hasn't bested 7feet in altitude yet.
