- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -10/+57So does this mean we can legitimately compare outsourcing to Nazi Germany?
- nirav72, on 10/14/2007, -1/+33Agreed. The Aryan Invasion has been disqualified as a fact. (I'm Indian btw). Hitler didn't given a sh*t for the brown people in india. But like the old saying goes..My enemies' enemy is my friend. Sames goes for Indians back then. The British needed to be kicked out of India..so who better to turn to?
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -6/+33Very interesting. Unfortunately in history, when one associates with Hitler even for the most noble of causes, they're considered bad.
- nbhagwat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26don't make silly jokes about parts of history you don't know about. Don't forget, this story was run by BBC. So it does have an angle... the British angle. Do you know how many Indians died on account of the British? What we were trying to do was fairly simple... collaborating with the enemy of an enemy. Just as the US and England collaborated with Stalin, who we all know was even worse than Hitler. But no one thinks of that as evil. Truly history is written by the victors!
- brownzilla, on 10/10/2007, -6/+28I like how the British don't consider their actions in India, and most of the world at the time facist. ***** idiots.
- amalagaura, on 10/14/2007, -4/+25The British never liked to admit that they were scared of an army of Indians to harass their overextended empire, not peace loving Gandhi. It was Bose and not Gandhi that scared them and forced them to give up their hold on India.
- imacyco, on 10/14/2007, -1/+22This isn't a secret in India. One of the soldiers from this "secret" army lived in my hometown in India. From what I remember, the soldiers didn't know what Hitler was doing to minorities, felt that the British would renege again on the promise on Independence (Brits promised it after WW1 and then flip-flopped - *****), wanted to get out of POW camps and had respect for the soldiers who they were fighting. To all this I say 'meh'. Atleast we don't have active, organized Nazi sympathizers in India now, in contrast to the US, UK, Canada and every ***** country with a pale/ pink skin majority (and South Africa). And this after people have found out what the Nazis did.
- EaterOfSnow, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21Dear lord are you ***** stupid? Do you really think people back in the 1940's knew what Hitler was like? Did they look at the war like you read a textbook knowing who were the good guys and bad guys? What they did know was that Britain had ***** them over and Hitler had not. They did not know about the murder of Jews ect. Retrospect is always 20/20 jackass.
- fadeout, on 10/10/2007, -13/+29Well, Indians are Aryan...
- whoisvaibhav, on 10/10/2007, -6/+17Holy cow... i am not one to jump into a bunch of morons in defense of my country... but you guys seriously need to get a life. It's not nice to make fun of someone else's nation... Everyone kept telling me that Digg users are 11 year olds with too much time on their hands... but now I believe it...
- drmobutu, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Nazis! I hate these guys...
- vertinox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Here is some list of the "Unfortunate Allies" who weren't really Nazis themselves but ended up on the wrong side of the war:
Finland
Croatians
Cossacks
Ukrainians
Estonians
Latvians
Algerians
Tunisians
Iraqis
Netherlands and Norwegian volunteers
Most of these people didn't really care for Hitler, but he was fighting those who were threatening their security. Finland and the Baltic nations are the best example of this because the Soviets attacked them way before Nazi Germany invaded the USSR. Obviously your enemy's enemy is your friend and since the British, France, and the US weren't didn't help out during the first Winter war of the Soviets vs Finland in 1939 so the small nation of Finland. However, Finland remained independent of Nazi influence and refused direct military support beyond their original territory or into Leningrad. They were able to fight well enough to get at least prevent Soviet Occupies unlike Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania and had to turn on their German allies as part of the Soviet peace deal.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_war
However, the Baltic nations weren't so lucky and the Soviets occupied them brutally for 60 odd some years until 1991. Of course the anti-Soviet Cossacks who fought against the Soviets as German volunteers were handed over by the Allies to the Soviets only to be executed. (And these were the people that were fighting Communist before even Hitler came to power)
I've got a picture in a WWII book about the Germans in Africa which shows a black guy in a German uniform who was a Algerian volunteer who wanted to be free of French occupation.
Keep in mind that most Germans were not racist against blacks, Indians, or Asians like the British and Americans but rather mostly against Jews and Slavic cultures. There had never been any blacks in Germany to speak of so they were a foreign culture. In his memoirs German SS Special Unit Officer Otto Skorzeny was confused to why the Americans put black guards at his cell during the Nuremberg trials since they were trying to insult him. It was the first time he had ever seen an African American and actually befriend the guard out of curiostiy only to learn that the guards got more grief from his white US commander.
So its not surprising the Germans had plenty of non-whites in their volunteer forces, but not to say Germans were not racist. They were but again... More against the Russian Slavs and Jewish people. - arjie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Yeah, we had little choice.
The British were awfully horrible. Also, while on this topic, I might as well complain about Elihu Yale and all that ***** he pulled on my native state when he was Governor of Madras. The guy was a bastard, but Yale University likes to sweep that under the carpet. Lux et veritas, my ass. - adcz94, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12"free world" went to war because Hitler attacked them, not to stop the Jewish massacre. USA didn't enter the war till pearl harbor was attacked. It was just profiteering from the war till then...........Everyone knows that most of the American corporations were in talk with Hitler to help them in war. Then again Americans and the free world won't know it cause there media is not so free.............
- Navicerts, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Yea, im sure you already knew about this, because you found out in 2004? Or is this just general bitching?
- FreakyD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9***** that, they have the nukes already
- rheaume, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Or the wops or the japs right? ***** OFF MORON
- crazydiode, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14"noble cause" in this case refers to Indian freedom from the British. They virtually raped India... ***** bastards and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was doing what he thought was the only force to counter the British. If we had heeded to Netaji's words in 1931 (even before Hitler became the Satan he was), we would have got our freedom atleast 10-15 years earlier. ***** non-violence movement..
- whoisvaibhav, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Well... all the funny comments about the call center are actually funny... and i am smirking myself at them... however, some of the other comments about Netaji Bose are totally uncalled for... you guys really do not have an idea about what happened here... well nor do i, because i wasn't even born then... but i know from my grandparents and the books i read and what i was taught growing up...
- bkrishnan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10@ mookiemookie
Guess what? The so called 'Free world' had enslaved India, and you expect indians to band with the british?? You are the ***** moron! - nirav72, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Mookiemookie5..you're a self-righteous prick aren't you? Try being oppressed for 400 years and then tell me if you wouldn't ally with the most likely group that would increase your chance of freedom. Its funny how Americans forget their own struggle for freedom. By the way..the U.S has support edsome pretty bad characters in the 20th century ..all in the name of preventing communism from spreading into the western world. Go pick up a history book.
- psilanthropist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8does the average Westerner (not saying american here. europeans included too) ever think beyond the call centers when they think about India ?
let me enlighten you to a few indian achievements -
1.we discovered the concept of zero
2.we had one of the earliest civiliztions in the world
3.we built magnificent structures like the Taj and the Qutub
4.the second fastest growing economy in the world. 9.3% this is despite our population of 1.3 billion people. - carbbomb, on 10/14/2007, -1/+8Awesome - Jai Hind!
- FreakyD, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I never.......learned the ....... dots....of .........punctuation and their .....usage ......in school......
P.S. Nice sentence!!! - norman619, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I learn something new about WWII every day. There is so much about that era I find very interesting. So much is omitted in what we are taught in school about this war.
- nirav72, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8dude..even the U.S was tolerant towards Hitler right before 1939.
- VAXcat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8 Then you have no respect for the British, whose government signed the Munich agreement, ceding the Sudetenland to Germany, motivated partly by a dsire to see the Nazis take on the Russians?
- c2kris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It's easy to post stereotype jokes on Digg. But imagine, being ruled by foreigners for 300 years.
It's struggle for freedom, but the freedom fighter Subash Chandra Bose took a violent approach and a different route.
As some one posted earlier, enemy's enemy is a friend. - ortucis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Dude! Can I have what you are smoking?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Please learn what racism is and quit throwing a word around when you don't even know the definition. To be racist, you must feel that one race is genetically superior to another and there have been no comments suggesting that at all.
- fatdog789, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The Aryan Invasion has not been disqualified as fact. (I'm Indian, too, BTW). It's just been shown to have less effect than previously thought upon the genetics of North Indians.
Furthermore, Hitler wasn't an Aryan. He was a Neo-Aryan. The original Aryan tribes of Germanic Barbarians were assimilated by the surrounding peoples wherever they settled. By the 1900s, the "Aryan blood" had become intermixed with other racial stocks. - Egoist, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6You're a bit hypersensitive if you found that article racist.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+10No... Tank you for calling Word War 2, dis is Mike, how may I hewp you?
- HomerS1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5What's so hard to believe about Hitler wanting to disrupt/weaken the British Empire and a non-tirival number of Indians willing to fight for independence? To many, the ends justify the means.
History is full of examples of the enemy of my enemy becoming my "friend". The Stalin/Churchill/Roosevelt alliance is a prime example. Stalin was no better than Hitler, but he was less of an immediate threat. - Danial, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6All speculation.
- WaterJake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Bose made a deal with the devil, but he can't be blamed for knowing what the true nature of his ally was. Once he realized at least part of what was going on he quickly abandoned Hitler. Of course the Japanese were no better, but he wouldn't have known that.
- buddamus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yep, I love my country, doesn't stop me ripping the piss and having a laugh
- Cannfodd3r, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Ok, this is getting silly now...
- carbbomb, on 10/14/2007, -8/+11Wow - after reading the article: what a one sided biased piece of crap. Just utter garbage that makes the Indians look like stupid pawns and animals, without any real humanity. Figures though, coming from British media which in England is very racist towards Indians and Pakistanis. I like how the article never really makes it point that Britain was subjugating the Indian state even after WWII was over there was a general sympathy and pity towards countries Hitler had taken over, there was little note take towards the Indian plight.
Buried as racist rubbish. - MiDri, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3indian-a Ohhh the horror!
- radioactivekt81, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Can i get in on the rotation? Honestly...who wants to read all that crap
- psilanthropist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3actually thats just the opinion of a misinformed person. Just because the Nazis did all the killings in Europe on "white people" doesnt mean that the British massacaring Indian tribals is any lesser. Reports are just surfacing (in the Beeb' , no less) of how British military scientists of the Raj used Indian soldiers to experiment on for new methods of biological warfare that wasnt even considered safe for animals. Wait, wait the Nazis did that too right. But how come now one knows about this ? Does the fact that nobody knows about this make it less curel and sadistic ?
- sidhu1982, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This article is not news to me, the story of Subhash Chandra Bose is quite well known in India and all Indians (including me) are very proud of the man, he is especially popular in the north-eastern city of Kolkata (Calcutta). Having said that - nobody is proud of his allies (Hitler), although he believed that anybody must be better than the English during that period. He almost reached India fighting alongside the Japanese, he is also revered in Japan even today and his ashes are in Japan. Some people still don't believe that he died in a plane crash - he is said to have lived long after India got it's Independence. He was never supported by Gandhi - who believed in non-violence. Both are right in a way.
This story has nothing to do with outsourcing. - trer, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Why did you white people insist on colonizing others throughout history? Why couldn't you leave us alone?
- nj013, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7man looks like u didnt get a job in an indian call center......
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Damn, little fella.
R u txting frum ur fon? - ashbrahma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legion_Freies_Indien
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4The people were already convinced the Jews were evil and blamed them for their woes. To change course would have been a bad move for him if he wanted to maintain that power he got. Hitler was a monster. Of that there is no doubt. But people seem to think he was this super racists mofo. Ie was just a master at manipulating people. It was just a means to an end. Remember Hitler wasn't an aryan. Many of their allies weren't aryan. The Japanese? Not aryan.
- crazydiode, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5what would you do to get some bastards out of your country?? wouldn't you go to their enemy for help? don't even pretend that the 'free world" is some moralistic force. It has always been for the richie rich. asshat.. know some history first.
- ortucis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Majority of indians like to write this way online (I blame their love of SMSing 24/7). I am an Indian and even I ***** hate this.
Nice post though. -
