- fuzzYogHurt, on 10/12/2007, -7/+62Olive Garden is to Italian food as Taco Bell is to Mexican food.
- jstohler, on 10/12/2007, -14/+38Dugg down for suggesting that anything at Olive Garden is "goodness."
- MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23As a point of comparison, here is the original Alfredo sauce recipe created by Alfredo Di Lelio for his restaurant Alfredo alla Scrofa in 1914. I've made this, and it's far superior to any other recipe I've ever had, but it is a bit tricky to prepare, and one serving is 455 calories and 38 grams of fat.

What a great website... This is one of those great things you wish you had never discovered - like McDonald's dollar menu. - SpacePirate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I loooooove milk, eggs and cheese. But being a vegan is trendy, so I can't eat it!
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11as an american of (#nationality) decent, i find (large chain resturaunt with #nationality theme) offensive
- aurrea, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Here's a good recipe:
8 oz heavy cream
6 tablespoons butter
2/3 cup grated romano cheese
2/3 cup grated parmesean cheese
Salt/Pepper (to taste)
Cheyenne pepper (to taste)
Heat the cream and butter. Drop in the cheese when it's hot. Add salt and pepper to your liking. Add Cheyenne pepper to your spicy liking.
In a seperate pan, throw in precooked chicken in pieces(1 breast) and shrimp (15 or so).
1 cup cut artichoke hearts
1/3 cup green onions
1/3 cup sundried tomatoes
1 cup mushrooms
Once it's nice and hot, throw in your cooked noodles ( i like bow tie) and pour your extremely fattening sauce in and mix. SO GOOD!
P.S. I stole this recipe from Johnny Carinos. It's their Spicy Romano Shrimp and Chicken - aurrea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@ cryptoisfun
Hey douche, you made me get off my fat, butter and heavy cream eating ass to waddle to the kitchen to see what it's called.
....it's Cayenne pepper. - jklyon, on 10/12/2007, -9/+18You guys are spoiled brats. STFU. Some people like Oliive Garden. Stop trying to act superior to certain restaurants.
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11No kidding. Obviously if Olive Garden were so terrible it wouldn't be so popular. Food brings out the Digg Elitists.
The fact of the matter is that authentic food is generally boring. Authentic Italian is especially boring as it consists of only 5 ingredients and tastes bland. Dayum, folkz. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i could live off of alfredo sauce and bread sticks.
- writerboyVSgod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Only in bizzaro Olive Garden world. Try Carbonara in a real Italian restaurant... it's a whole different story.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If you want it to be really decadant try it with Parmigiano Reggiano, a pinch of nutmeg and white pepper with a splash of Sherry. Ohmigod tasty.
- ih8apple, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7NO, Rachael Ray is the worst. Her and her GD EVOO.
- dagnabbit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Kudos for the link BabyMan. I ate at Alfredo alla Scrofa in Rome last month, and I'm happy to report it's one of the best alfredo dishes I've ever had (as it should've been - the guy freaking invented it). Olive Garden doesn't hold a candle to that place.
- MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sorry, last time. After a little detective work, I found it, thanks to dedicated Disney fans. This is absolutely the exact recipe used at L'Originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante at Epcot. This is the one I remember making.
http://www.allearsnet.com/din/rec_alf.htm - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3MrBabyMan: "here is the original Alfredo sauce recipe created by Alfredo Di Lelio"
FTA: "He has since passed away, and the recipe for both the fettuccine pasta and the sauce remain secret."
It's not actually Alfredo Di Lelio's recipe. It still sounds good, though. - MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@zioxide:
You may be right. The first time I found the recipe, years ago, was at Epcot's Alfredo site (which despite the whole 'remains a secret' thing, I believe was the real thing--it's since been removed), and I don't seem to recall using cream at all. I do remember that if you don't time the butter and cheese just right, you end up with a gloppy mess. Also high fat butter and specifically Parmigiano Reggiano (not just any Parmesan) is a must. Sorry for misleading anyone. This concludes 'recipe hour' on Digg. - quomen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Ok I think i've had too much digg today because I thought I read Open Source Alfredo Sauce..
Anyhoo, where can I get myself some of that? - zioxide, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Red Lobster? It's the Olive Garden of seafood. They're both *****.
- SultanTravi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6@fuzzYogHurt
Americanized but still amazingly delicious? - Apreche, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Olive Garden is disgusting.
- writerboyVSgod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4So now you can have the flavor of mass produced marginally-better-than-fast food chain restaurant garbage in your very own home! Maybe you can help the corporate chains destroy real privately owned restaurants with trained chefs everywhere!
epicurious.com, allrecipes.com... or how about a real cook book... with real recipes from the cultures from which these corporately designed McPastas are trying to remind you of?
While your at it, why not decorate your house in fake bric-a-brac and wear flash on your vest? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Umm .... it can't be too hard to get a copy of the real recipe. Why do we have to rely on a guy guessing? My brother used to work there, there's a book with the recipes to every meal.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Could somebody explain to me why anyone would want to be vegan if they actually like milk-based foods? I honestly don't get it. I can understand not eating animals for moral reasons, but milk?
- DeskFlyer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3:drools:
- yomamaphat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I would hope this taste better than "Olive Garden". They don't make ***** at their restuarant, their dishes are all standardized and uniform across every one of the chain, delivered frozen by a truck. I really don't know why people like it so much. I've had much better food at most non-chain restaurants. Basically I'm saying to hell with "Olive Garden".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@oxymoron69 here's one for Carbonara

- zioxide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sorry for comment abuse :/
"It's not actually Alfredo Di Lelio's recipe. It still sounds good, though."
That's true.
The real recipe from Alfredo's of Rome is just butter and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. - saggygrandma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://duggmirror.com ??
- oxymoron69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2do you have a recipe for carbonara then? i'd like to try that without the cream or butter
- unabonger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Botio is right... Classic Pasta ala Carbonara is made without cream or butter -> http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_23785,00.html?rsrc=search
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You're welcome, I love a good Alfredo Sauce.
- zioxide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Its not actually Italian food, but outside of Italy you rarely get decent Italian food anyway."
You have to go to an area that is italian. Near me, there is Little Italy in Boston and Federal Hill in Providence. They both have authentic and amazing Italian food. - ThisIsBob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How come Rachel Ray isn't any fatter? Every time I see her, she is spending 40 bucks a day feeding her face.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry for comment abuse, but I'm surprised that no one on Digg mentioned the description for this article..........referring to Olive Garden's Alfredo sauce as "artery clogging, heart stopping goodness". Are there nutrition facts to substantiate this claim? If so, it's very worrisome, because I've enjoyed this stuff at Olive Garden for so many years now, without realizing how unhealthy it is. And, wtf, why would anyone want to make this stuff if it isn't good for you? I don't want to be another statistic for heart disease
This reminds me of the Digg article about frying a Snicker's bar in funnel cake batter at fairs --- which probably tastes great --- yet the amount of saturated fat and trans fat probably makes you think twice about eating it. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Alfredo sauce consists of three main ingredients: heavy cream, butter, and cheese. How the hell could you not realize that's bad for you?
- mjesales, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1considering it serves 8 - i dont' think its that bad....
- unabonger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very low heat, and ideally you would finish the sauce as the pasta finishes so the sauce doesn't sit very long...
- shrontzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is nice and all but find me an accurate copycat recipe for Bonefish Grill's Bang Bang shrimp and then I'll be grateful.
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"No kidding. Obviously if Olive Garden were so terrible it wouldn't be so popular. Food brings out the Digg Elitists. "
McDonalds is popular also, so is Taco Bell. Doesn't make their food any less *****.
Personally I find Olive Garden inoffensive however. Its not actually Italian food, but outside of Italy you rarely get decent Italian food anyway. - BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's just a traditional Alfredo with cream cheese added. Obviously not authentic Italian since cream cheese is a relatively recent US invention.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"voila", not "wha la". Don't make me hurt you.
- zldomi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So could someone post a recipe for their salad dressing?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like garlic too and if I do a Shrimp Alfredo I saute the shrimp in a garlic, rosemary-butter sauce.
