- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+98If I would be there I would buy that house immediately. Ghosts are for kids.
- Noobuntu, on 10/11/2007, -12/+78People fear ghosts, yet we've got nukes, bombs, and bullets galore, because they believe in religion... I hope aliens aren't watching us because this is just embarrassing.
- TheAkolyte, on 10/11/2007, -8/+55Yeah it totally moved by itself. Like that fishing line attached to the char was totally haunted too.
- Dysarthria, on 10/11/2007, -2/+45"And I would have been able to buy it too, IF IT WENT FOR THOSE PESKY KIDS AND THEIR DOG!"
- mvanhorn, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33I once saw a huge water tower for sale that was in North Dakota for $10 on ebay. I had to have it. I decided maybe one day I would venture to ND to see it and put my name on it or something. Then afterwards I got an email from the guy saying I now owed him $20,000 to take down and move the tower. NONE of that was mentioned in the auction so luckily I was able to retract my bid!
- AnteChronos, on 10/11/2007, -6/+34It's for sale for "$1 Dollar"? I better go get that one dollar dollar out of an ATM machine right away!. I sure hope I don't forget my PIN number.
- ViRaZ, on 10/11/2007, -3/+30"The agency is offering the lighthouse for $1 in “as is” condition to local, state or federal government agencies or nonprofit organizations."
Damn, I really wanted a cool (and possibly real) haunted house this Halloween. - scubasteve11, on 10/11/2007, -3/+30It's not so much the ghosts as it is the unknown.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+34Is this the same one that was featured on Ghost Hunters? The one where the frackin' chair moved across the floor by itself and they got it on video?
- tehpwnrate, on 10/11/2007, -3/+27I've experienced things you guys would call "paranormal." I call them the actions of my subconscious. Occam's razor, guys. The brain is a powerful thing and it is easily confused.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+25This reminds me of that Simpsons episode when Bart buys that warehouse for $1 and is rocking back and forth on that huge platform.
- EXreaction, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22Whether it is true or not, if you keep telling yourself paranormal things do happen you will utterly fool yourself into believing they do.
I've been in plenty of houses that should be *haunted* (an old friend of mine lived in a house where some man killed his wife and himself in the living room), and I didn't see a single thing odd in the house any time I was there, nor have I seen anything myself that I would call "paranormal".
To sum it up, don't let you be fooled by yourself, if you believe that you will see something like a ghost you will start blaming every strange (and not so strange) occurance on paranormal things, like floors or walls creaking (which some do even when nobody is around simply because of wind or heat changes), etc, etc. - Jolene, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16If I lived in the area I'd so buy it. How many people can say they live in a lighthouse?!
- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16Those who've escaped a mental institution.
- yamyogurt, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Dude me and you we start up a non-profit The Spooky Lighthouse Association for the Deaf and Retarded.
- ScottMaximus1, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15Ghosts are the embodiment of man's uncertainty of the after life.
- trevlac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Um... here it is:
http://propertydisposal.gsa.gov/resourcecenter/PublicPages/default.asp?type=4 - swanny89, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14Too bad its only being sold to government agencies or nonprofit organizations.
- Cymrubeats, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10This has happened a lot in the u.k (not just lighthouses)..but there are clauses that you have to abide by, such as maintenance, restoration etc etc, and that will easily go into the 10's of 1,000's.
- jsmith39, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11I'd buy that for a dollar!
- n3xu5, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8http://www.lighthousefriends.com/penfield3.jpg
- cyborg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10doodz, I'd buy it and use it as a house, thats a great price for ocean front property. lol
- pernicat, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Just because something is "inexplicable" does not prove that ghost are real.
- tehbored, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7I'd buy it an sell it to one of those "paranormal investigators" for a HUGE profit. Too bad I can't :(
- rocket97, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Welcome to the Department of Redundancy Department.
- Azerael, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I'm pretty certain my afterlife is going to be spent being slowly consumed by bacteria and worms and stuff.
- vagrantwade, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I use to think Ghosts weren't real...but then I played Luigi's Mansion.
- BlackCow, on 10/11/2007, -6/+11I also grew up as a young child in a house in Scotland that was haunted but no one belives people unless they themselves have encountered something. Believe what you want but something was happening in that house.
- RobotKing, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It just so happens that I have a dollar in my possession. Damn...haunted lighthouse...or crunchy taco. Why did it have to be 2 in the morning...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8You're right, I don't believe you.
- Richandler, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6IT'S A TRAP. You don't have to upkeep it. But you do have to pay taxes on it!
- Crossmenjeff, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6its for gov't to buy at one dollar, not you people. the gov't buys stuff for one dollar all the time, because the owner knows that they'll receive much more through taxes and upkeep once they sell. its more of a burden than a blessing, and calling it haunted makes it more valuable to investors.
- GliTCH82, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I decided to hit up Digg while I was waiting for F.E.A.R. to install, and I ran into this. Coincidence?
...yes, actually, it probably is. - GreyICE, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Not that I think ghosts exist, but you have a crappy understanding of science. Science doesn't work through logic. That was the Aristotelian method of science. Thus, the Greeks came to the conclusion that there was a unique element of life, all matter was infinitely divisible, and the earth was the center of the universe. Later, logic concluded that space and time were constant, and that space was full of an invisible substance (ether).
Science is based on OBSERVATION, not logic. If ghosts were observed scientifically, in a reproducible manner, and could be measured and examined, they would exist. The lack of repeatability and the inconsistancies in the accounts lead us to logically conclude they don't exist - but logic is subservient to observation. - infectaphibian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4It's not really a ghost! It's old man Withers who runs the nearby amusement park trying to scare folks away because he knows about the pirate treasure hidden in the basement of the lighthouse (duh...)
- diggzoid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'll take it!
- Skavenblight, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I saw the chair move, pa'! I'm telling ya!
- kertong, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3OFgswLEOQ
Is that the lighthouse/episode in question? - tehpwnrate, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5BOO!
- TheAkolyte, on 10/11/2007, -6/+9Yeah... they're the suckers....
- Skavenblight, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Energy is a scientific, rather abstract concept that refers to the amount of work that has been done on an object (don't know if "work" is the term you use in English but it seems good enough). Energy is not the disembodied will of a human. Energy is, for example, the potential energy of an object on top of tower: potential because if it were to fall, it would acquire kinetic energy.
Energy is not some new age ***** concept. I hate it when religious people completely twist around scientific concepts to make them sound more mysterious. Energy is nothing special. It's a completely abstract measure of the work that has been done. Like time, it has no real value, and when you try to define both work and energy, you can only do so by referring to the other concept. It's basically nothing more than numbers that allow us to better understand the interactions between objects.
Energy is not the soul, energy can't wander and energy is not some ***** new age concept, energy is a completely abstract concept with no real world value that is used to make complex equations to describe all the forces that are present in any given situation.
I just though this comment thread needed some more science and less new age. - MasterThief117, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Why don't they just call Ghostbusters?
- trevlac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3with a link to the pdf, too:
http://propertydisposal.gsa.gov/LHUploadedFiles/07.05.18_-_Penfield_Reef_Lighthouse_CT_NOA.pdf - Skavenblight, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4My congratulations to digg users for their fantastic sense of humor.
- scubasteve377, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The use of the $ sign as well as the word "dollar" in the title is redundant and unnecessary.
Just thought I'd point that out. - indiraider2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Who are YOU gonna call?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2More like a link to nothing.
- LegOfLamb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I want to see your degree. I bet you aren't even a real doctor.
- HanSolo69, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Thanks. The first few comments pointing that out didn't make it clear. So thanks for straightening everything out, you're a true hero.
- djphatjive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=788
