- islingt0ner, on 10/11/2007, -3/+71I fought the knot, and the knot won.
- P33KAJ3W, on 10/11/2007, -2/+49I will never get my penis untied now :(
- jeremymccurdy, on 10/11/2007, -6/+53Oh boy, another "hack"...I wish people would just stop using that word.
- quantumHobbit, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32like an idiot I just tried this on my left shoe. Thankfully it has thick laces, because this is fairly hard to untie, but not impossible.
- misterhektik, on 10/11/2007, -4/+25Your penis has 2 ends? Where can I get one of those?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21thanks cub scout
- astx813, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19It's called the Double Fisherman's Knot. Just because some putz discovered it's handy for pranks doesn't retitle it "ultimate" anything. In addition to screwing with people's shoes, it's also handy in less important situations like rock climbing, mountain rescue, and fishing. But with that neat-o background music, it does seem just oh-soooooo-coooooool. Gah.
- sponeil, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Dude, you're supposed to try it on someone else's shoe.

- rmmcclay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13The ultimate shoelace knot is affectionately known as the Ian Knot...
http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/ianknot.htm
Once I learned it a few years ago it's all I use for laces. (Used to square knot the loops
of the overhand knot most people use.)
Taught my kids too...
lots of other knots there as well... - a3r0, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16Alexander wouldn't stand for any of this "impossible to untie" business
- bbcountach, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12looks like you're going to have to cut it!
- shaft3205, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Maniac Magee could untie this knot
- ceoblues, on 10/11/2007, -7/+17I believe it's a double Fisherman's knot, NOT a double Constrictor.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_fisherman%27s_knot - hiPpymIck, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13you can microwave your sponges too
- Charron, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11No, see, the "hackin' the sneaker" part is what happens after you try this on your shoe. Literally, you're hacking at it with a knife or something.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9*****.
- HyperJack, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Well actually, although the word "hack" was made famous by the computing and internet methods, a "hack" is modifying or forcing an object or appliance to do something it was originally not intended to do. Therefore, although this context may not refer to the use of computers, this is indeed a hack because this video shows how to "hack" a shoelace and make a know that the shoelace was not originally intended to be tied into.
Although "hacking" a shoelace sounds rather lame, it is still a "hack" in the real sense of the word. Hacking does not just apply to computers. - jobenly, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Give me a sword and I'll untie it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordian_knot - dattaway, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6This is the best thing I've learned today and perhaps this month.
- nytejade, on 10/11/2007, -7/+13IT'S NOT A ***** HACK
- neszis, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8The constrictor has the double loop cross over itself. The fisherman's knot doesn't. Very similar, though.
- saltatory, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5ruin laces instantly!

Direct video link: http://www.metacafe.com/w/696693 - rayraym0fucka, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Shoes laces were meant to be tied into knots.
- leetdood, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Don't worry.. We gave your upside-down text 7 upside-down thumb ups.
- DirtySnachez, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6is that a place they sell lesbians ?
- toekneebullard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Your point is valid, but your choice of words kind of destroys it.
- Jwoey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Agreed, just like the word "bandwidth" it had a definition before computers came along.
- reconbot, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Sure thing, what do you suggest?
- DesuKN, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6My scissors can beat your knot
- paulisnotdead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4probably not but I bet he belongs to the academy of people who aren't stupid enough to write upside down and think it's cool
- rayraym0fucka, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3According to someone up top there, they say a hack is anything you perform to get an object to perform differently than it was intended to. This is NOT a hack because by that definition, you would need to get the shoelaces to do something different than what they are intended to.
Shoelaces were meant to be tied in to knots. - rayraym0fucka, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Pfft, you don't want to be a trendy shoelace hacker like the rest of us?
- flclfan22, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I feel that much more closer to death having watched .
- angelmarauder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Alexander is definitely the man for the job.
- bovester, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4HAHA I learned this at a training seminar in Boy Scouts, they don't teach it to all the regular scouts because it REALLY can not be undone if the line is thin enough. I wouldn't suggest using this on anything unless you plan on replacing the line (after you have to cut it) :-)
- Oniony, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4My paper can...oh f* this, I left school two decades ago.
- blast_flame, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3If anyone such as you uses this knot as a "prank" you are an arsehole good sir.
- violentvinyl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2There's also a great section on lacing shoes too. I've gotten several compliments on the way my sneakers are laced, and I owe it all to Ian.
- paulisnotdead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2ahh childhood memories
- TheKricket, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2knot (noun) - an interlacing, twining, looping, etc., of a cord, rope, or the like, drawn tight into a knob or lump, for fastening, binding, or connecting two cords together or a cord to something else.
yes - it's still a knot... - nayajhen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2and your point being?
- Dweebo777, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Great, if anyone tries that on my shoes I'm going to try it on their windpipe.
- xike, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Contrary to these guys above me, I think you're right. The constrictor looks totally different: http://www.animatedknots.com/constrictorscouting/index.php?LogoImage=Logo&Website= or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Constrictors-Header.jpg
- DopeWeasel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wrong Wikipdeia link... here's the correct one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_fisherman's_knot
Also, some animated pics and a walkthrough for those who don't want to rewind the video over and over:
http://www.animatedknots.com/doublefishermansrescue/index.php - neszis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1...You mean, like the kind we use to tie our shoes?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Only nerds have thick shoe laces.
- violentvinyl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1A comment like this gets posted on just about about every "hack this" article. Normally I'd agree, but I just thought about it, and if it means we have to suffer through a "hack this" article that might not really be hacking (debatable in this case) in order to alleviate the negative connotation the word "hack" seems to carry in the media, then that's OK by me.
- liquidcola, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Doesn't have much do do with this article... If you would have read it, the knot described is for pulling pranks and stuff. You wouldn't want to tie your shoes with a double fisherman's knot. But you get dugg up cause the ian knot is cool.
