a website that's cluttered with ads is nicer? right... - matrixneo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4found this one. for guitar chords
http://www.chordbook.com/guitarchords.php - nukewinter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Uhh, did you even look at it? How exactly would the RIAA shut that site down?
- Kendalf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Groovy and totally rad! I enjoy useful FREE things like this.
- Snowcone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2IIRC, Tab sites are getting pushed around by the copyright holders of the music saying the distribution of tabs violates the IP they own.

- cdmonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i just got a guitar and was looking for lessons
- kstenson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I used to use this site back when I was first learning to play guitar. It hasn't been updated since the 90's but it's still a great site.
Sure the sound files are real audio, but back in the 90's some of us were still on dial-up :)
If you go to http://www.guitarlessonworld.com/ you'll find the new site by the guy who did the orginal site. - phiingerboard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm surprised to see any negative comments at all, especially about abstruse, insignificant, and irrelevant points.
This guy has obviously put a hell of a lot of work into producing a very good site with very well organized and well presented information to benefit a lot of other people. The internet needs more of this. - nfollmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1www.ultimate-guitar.com
I find it the best place to get tabs since mxtabs was shut down.... - bosko1983, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1here we go with all the spammers... why is this such a trend with guitar learning sites?
- themadhatter444, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cyberfret.com is much better.
- dkcronin184, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry, dig down my previous remark. I guess I forgot what the article was about by the time I got this far down the page. I guess that's what Wild Turkey does for me. They can't shut down a site for giving simple guitar lessons.
- ell0bo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually... this is the old version (The guy is my roommate). I'll post an updated URL to here when I get a chance. He's coming out with a book based on this site.
- Patmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm the creator of Guitar Lesson World. It's been at http://www.guitarlessonworld.com for a while, but for a time was just forwarded to space at the link that is now posted.
The site is 10 years old this December, and I'm planning a rewrite of many of the lessons, which will remain free. I'm also releasing a book on the site that will begin shipping in November.
Enjoy the site, it's there to help aspiring guitarists. - splitmind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0for something truly revolutionary check out http://www.actoguitar.com -- it's like wikipedia for guitar, but with free organized video lessons. you can earn money by contributing as well; 100% of revenue is shared.
- ell0bo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0K... following sobering up... here is the new and improved website he has. It's nice... http://www.guitarlessonworld.com . Enjoy!
Oh, and on a note about the real files... yeah I've been making fun of him, but those are from 1998 and he's too lazy to put a perfered format up there. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1where is my reply button#$%!#
- riddlebox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I already don't like this lessons page. Look where it compares differences and similarities between an Acoustic and an Electric. Well Electric Guitars have saddles as well. Also, they don't tell you that you have a truss rod..? Horrible site, and I just made it to the first page. Seriously, if you want lessons, start just buy getting a feel for a guitar, and practice religiously. Mainly finger practice, along with alternative picking. Staying on beat with a metronome. Do what feels comfortable. Also..
http://www.looknohands.com ....you can tune your guitar anyway you want, all standard scales, along with exotic, in the advanced room, in the beginner room you can channel through all of the types of chords, and positioning. - freeguitar, on 03/22/2008, -0/+0Yeh check this site out very usefull stuff for all...
http://www.freeguitarlessononline.co.uk/ - hobnob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think it was intended as humour...
wow - sionix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1tabit.net
great for tabs and it has midi playback. - EnterDaMatrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.all-guitar-chords.com is my favorite. No lessons but a sweet chord and scale finder, as well as reversals.
- dkcronin184, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@nukewinter
The tabs are controlled by copyright. The Music Publishers Association (MPA) is the group that shuts down websites for posting tab. They represent the sheet music companies that own the rights to the tablature that is posted on the site, even if it is transcribed by Joe Schmoe and posted. They shut down www.olga.net which was a site that I used a great deal, and really enjoyed. Companies want to micro control everything anymore, and they seem to be getting away with it. It sucks, big time. - AUGuitar, on 08/14/2008, -0/+0Check out Absolutely Understanding Guitar.
We'll have more free stuff at our main site
soon..
http://www.absolutelyunderstandguitar.com/ (yes we sell the DVD lessons)
and there's already plenty of free stuff at our other site:
http://www.guitar-instruction-free-lessons-online. ... - kickindatwins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I most most assuredly agree with the phiinger,
- guitartube, on 06/25/2008, -0/+0one more site: free guitar videos at
http://www.guitar-tube.com - freeaman, on 06/08/2008, -0/+0good site with lot of details
- jazzmusicnut, on 08/23/2008, -0/+0I'm happy to see Scotty's Absolutely Understand Guitar mentioned here at Digg. I was just a beginner when I ordered his course last year. Now I know more than guys that have been playing ten years or more! My friends and I are putting a band together.
- azitzer, on 02/22/2009, -0/+0This is a definitely a great resource with lot's of free, basic lessons in one place.
Power chords aren't covered in a lot of detail though and I think those are one of the best ways to start playing fast. You can play so many songs on the guitar in a short time.
This is a site that's building out the best list of power chord songs for guitar. Most are video lessons that anyone can play in just a few minutes - regardless of your skill level.
http://guitargodin90days.com/complete-guide-on-gui ... - luthdrix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Hey everybody please feel free to check out my new site www.GuitarLessonVids.com. Feel free to request lessons at my site if you don't see anything you like. My goal is to add a few new videos every week, so eventually there should be a pretty decent library of videos there. See you soon.
www.GuitarLessonVids.com - whiteslash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This guy on youtube is amazing he has uploaded over 50 video guitar lessons.
http://www.youtube.com/user/TheNextLevelGuitar - reallyrandy, on 07/30/2008, -0/+0Guitar Mash has hundreds guitar videos - all free
http://www.guitarmash.com - Eigernordwand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Depends on what you're looking for. The folks at www.videoguitarlessons.com have some guitar legends teaching their secrets, incl. Larry Carlton, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Steve Lukather and others. The host is kinda dorky, but lesson seems worth it, although I haven't bought the DVD or CD. Gibson.com has some free lessons with B.B. King, Warren Haynes, etc. All these lessons give away great tips and give you some insights into the players style, his signature playing. However, what they lack is a continuous build-up, a curriculum. The guys at www.workshoplive.com do a better job at that. Their lessons are all organized in a curriculum, from beginner to advanced level, taught by dozens of teachers (you can learn bass, keyboard and drums too). they also have dozens of free lessons.
Who really sucks are the clowns from www.smartguyreviews.com. They pose as a "guitar lessons review site" but have been reviewing the same companies for months- don't you think we realize that the companies you claim to review are behind your site, smartguy? It's also telling that only 2 other Web sites link to smartguyreviews, according to Alexa.com.
I attended GIT in Los Angeles, and their curriculum is great and rock-solid. I don't know how their books are, but if I remember correctly, they now sell their curriculum as books, which should be a good investment. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Watch as the RIAA has this thing shut down.
- hobnob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0real still sucks ;
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1All the guitar players I know are chain smoking drinkers.
- falcon1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2What???
- theworldisround, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I like www.chordfind.com better, especially since it can get me 4-string chords, too (mandolin, ukulele, bass, etc.). Looks a bit nicer IMO.
edit: chordfind is down right now, don't flame me for posting a dead link - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Tabs make it harder to learn guitar.
- Cojawfee, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Change the Real files into decent video files and I might actually use this sometime.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2If it ain't esteban, it doesn't get the digg.
