My in-laws protected me by giving me glasses of tea that looked like whiskey as we went around the 200 or so guests gan-bei-ing (literally "dry cup", toasting) at the traditional reception.

No alcohol addiction for me, but a digg addiction.
I really should put more time between waking up and logging on and replying.
I'd wondered just what would happen if I drank more than a couple of drinks in a short period of time. I'd guess this guy's face going flush and maybe blood vessels under the skin bursting and thus his face going black was a result. Internal bleeding to death?
On a related note, I've been told to take a zantac before drinking if I wanted to mitigate the "Asian flush" effect and actually discover what a buzz feels like.
