- ibanezdtx120, on 11/08/2007, -0/+52Maybe they could offer text ads at every pump to lower the cost of the gas.
- EBFoxbat, on 11/08/2007, -6/+50Gas pump in one hand, electro-static touch screen in the other... I love it.
- sparkrainfir, on 11/08/2007, -1/+26those gas station attendants never know what the hell they are talking about. i'm glad i can walk up to a computer instead.
- afidler, on 11/08/2007, -1/+20"okay, honey, I'll stop at this gas PUMP and ask for directions!"
man's pride intact, woman's satisfaction preserved. - drjekelmrhyde, on 11/10/2007, -5/+20Great now even a longer wait at the gas station
- IgniteLisa, on 11/08/2007, -0/+11I love it when technology can meet my everyday needs. I think convenience stores are going to feel the push to upgrade dispensers like this that can upgrade the customer experience.
- nbcaffeine, on 11/07/2007, -0/+8Yes they they do, they need directions to get the F out of NJ.
- inigomntoya, on 11/07/2007, -1/+9After reading your Digg commenting style, I would like to pass a motion for YOU being the idiot!
- Otto, on 11/07/2007, -0/+7I dunno about that... If I was in NJ, I would really want to know the quickest way out of NJ.
- whojaybe, on 11/08/2007, -0/+7damn, people are gonna be stacked behind ALL those pumps... but on the other hand, it beats the gas attendanct saying "hey, just go straight, you'll eventually see where you need to be!"
- KangoTraveler, on 11/11/2007, -0/+6I heard this on the radio this morning, and I was like, sweet! that's a great idea!, then I realised that the map consoles would have to be at pretty much every station before this would be useful, becuase if you knew the station had the map, you would probably not be lost.
- docrings, on 11/07/2007, -0/+4"You want to pump your own gas? No, no, no... talk to Vinny over der... he'll break your knee caps if you do!"
- T8erT0T, on 11/07/2007, -0/+4This ought to be pretty useful. It's pretty annoying these days when you pull into a station and ask for directions either no one speaks more than 9 words of English or if they do they have no idea where anything is.
- LeRenard, on 11/08/2007, -2/+6I think you mean the Thought Police, who did the surveillance. Ingsoc is "English Socialism".
- TechCF, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3The only thing I want to know when filling gas is how much I have filled:
The only thing I think about when filling gas is to get back on the road.
Who has time to ask google maps, and at the pump? How about surf computers inside the gas station? - chaosium, on 11/08/2007, -0/+3There's nothing dangerous about touchscreens and gas vapors.
- etrof, on 11/07/2007, -0/+3google = big brother still in the womb
- inigomntoya, on 11/07/2007, -0/+3Yeah - all you sorry suckers waiting behind me while I download my gas pump porn...
- psykiv, on 11/07/2007, -1/+4It works even better if your cell phone has a built-in GPS receiver :)
- Konrad9, on 11/08/2007, -2/+5Yeah, I mean, ads in videogames have really lowered the price of games.
Great idea, but... : ( - Otto, on 11/08/2007, -2/+5Just stick Google maps on your cell phone. Comes in incredibly handy. I use it all the time when I travel. Note that you will want an unlimited data plan for your phone though. With AT&T, said unlimited data is $20 a month.
http://www.google.com/gmm/index.html - inigomntoya, on 11/11/2007, -0/+2You might have to stop at a gas station to ask for directions to the google-enabled gas pumps... Oh the irony!
- hypnotoad32, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2Which exit?
- anarchytv, on 11/07/2007, -2/+4Its bad enough being stuck behind some retard taking their own sweet time to pump their gas, saunter on it, and by half a dozen lotto tickets. Now we have to wait behind stupid people who find a touchscreen on a gas pump fascinating, and play with it all day to see if they can zoom in on their neighbors back yard.
- chriskeyes, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2I much prefer Live Maps over Google Maps. I'm betting most Digg users haven't tried Live Maps.
Not to sound like any fanboy, but I think people should know that Live Maps does do better in areas than GMaps does. Like:
1. 3D cities with realistic colors and look
2. Birds-eye-imagery - much better than aerial maps, in that you can see much better detail and angle-wise
3. Make a map collection and make a video from it - you can make a video from your map collection. Pretty nifty, and you can upload it to many video-sharing sites
4. Traffic feature - Had this BEFORE GMaps had it. I find the way Live does it, is much better.
5. Better aerial imagery in urban cities
6. Drag-n-pull rerouting - not as advanced as Google does it, but it's there.
7. Better UI - I find the Live Maps UI is just as simple and even easy to use as Google's.
That's off the top of my head. There's many more reasons.
I urge that users really look at alternatives. Don't diss Live Maps because it's from MS, or anything. That's sillly. Just give it a try.

- Ghazi, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2Google maps has porn?
- Ender0910, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2Microsoft has had this technology out for a while now. The most recent incarnation is in live search mobile:

gas prices on an interactive map for your Windows Mobile Cell Phone. - rhgtp, on 11/07/2007, -1/+3How are we gonna use these in nj?
We don't even pump our own gas - BinaryDelt, on 11/08/2007, -0/+2Um...genius.
- joshuaer, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2Did any one else notice that the guy was going to Denny's Who the hell seeks out a Denny's!
- Shelbo2000, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2too late! We're only about a year or two out from having GPS Navigation as a standard feature on your cell phone. This would have been awesome like 5 years ago when the hand held stuff wasn't so easy to come by.
- inigomntoya, on 11/08/2007, -1/+2Yeah - no kidding! They have had CNN at the pump for how long?! And they are just NOW implementing this?!
- KangoTraveler, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1ahh this is great, I heard it on the radio this morning as well, I think that google is my friend, yes, paying homage to google :) well, at least their maps.
- Namakemono, on 11/08/2007, -2/+3I think the proliferation of in-car NAV will obsolete this idea within a couple of years.
- psykiv, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1Well, there are only so many restaurants open at 3am, Denny's being one of them...
- Namakemono, on 11/08/2007, -2/+3Telescreen!
- inactive, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1Yes.
http://mashable.com/2007/05/31/top-15-google-stree ... - writr, on 11/07/2007, -2/+3No one in NJ needs directions.
- xedd, on 11/08/2007, -1/+2Because after thinking about the possible negative outcomes, you might not like it as much: Sitting for an extra 15 minutes behind granny as she fumbles through her attempts at using the service to find directions to her second cousin's uncle's step-son's house... And then while she either tries to write down the directions, or waits for a print-out, only to discover the infernal machine's paper has run out!
Some things sound pretty damn nifty in theory, but when put into practice in real world conditions: not so. - chaosium, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1True, but as flawed as any nav system is, it's much more reliable than human directions.
- celeb, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1It's beginning to seem like Reddit is the place to go to get "Original" stories these days, as all of the posts on here are coming shortly after they are posted there...
A sad day for all.. - chaosium, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1This is nice for the time being.
- bizsumpark182, on 11/07/2007, -1/+1Thats a pretty cool idea.
- WasabiBomb, on 11/08/2007, -2/+2Don't get me wrong- I loves me some Google. Right now, though, Windows Live Search is better than GoogleMaps. I'm hoping Google will catch up soon, though, 'cause I'd much prefer to not use Microsoft.
- inactive, on 11/08/2007, -1/+1Lets hope it helps Google stock which is tanking at the moment.
- alecks, on 11/07/2007, -1/+1Most verzion phones have VZNavigation... great pocket gps/directions/mapping
- inactive, on 11/08/2007, -3/+3About damn time!
- JayUNCW, on 11/08/2007, -0/+0Yes, because I'm sure that 99% of the time, all the pumps will be occupied by people fascinated with the touch screen at the same time....and it's Google Maps, not Earth. You can zoom in on your neighbor's back yard all you want to, but you'll just see that light orange color used for landmass.
- colombu, on 11/09/2007, -1/+0I'm loving this. Theres a funny version of this story on Goblet Boy too.
Where will we find google next? -
