- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+85China is a country with nukes, a huge army and lot's of power. Scientology just has Tom Cruise.
- stinger666, on 10/10/2007, -5/+77Have you guys heard? USA might declare war to Iraq
- otakushark, on 10/10/2007, -4/+49Buried as very old news, and Google still includes the Xenu.net listing when you search for "Scientology."
- Philodox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+36Maybe that's because scientology is a cult.
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29Turns out the -did- de-list xenu.net for a little while. It's back now, though.
- Gerchak, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30Old article. Google won. Good for them.
- Evilhenchman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+25Scientology is a CULT that brainwashes it's victims and bullies anyone who speaks out against the "church". Here is just another piece of evidence.
- DanH, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21***** scientology.
- ProphetSix, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23Buried as INACCURATE. They weren't "sued", they were given a DMCA take down notice. Something they routinely get, and VERY different.
Remember back when Digg users just posted up the articles, and weren't trying for sensationalism? Yeah... those were good times. - Moduliz0r, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19I think that trying to remove any critic's opinions, or any anti-scientoligist stuff, makes their "religion" seem even more like a cult, I mean, there's lots of negative stuff about other religions, but they don't try and remove it.
- Rapter09, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16They have weapons of mass destuction!
- Jones82, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15That sounds like a bad idea
- knodi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Scientology can kiss my dick.
- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -7/+22With China they had an ultimatum, either they censor certain stuff or the Chinese censor Google from their country - Google opted for the censorship. With Scientology there is no ultimatum, what are they going to do when their lawsuit goes pear shaped? Censor Google from Scientology? Nobody cares.
- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Trust me, if I had to choose between Scientologist and a Nuke, I would go for the nuke. At least this way I don't need to hear their sh*t.
- nickerbocker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I don't think it's a good idea either. I sense another Vietnam.
- ripple123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I really hope Google squish Scientology like a bug on this one. Oh. they did? great.
- TrevorBelmont, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8The CoS is 53 years old and growing. They will never get bored of making money.
- futureisours, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9cool! now i can get all my scientology stuff for free. level 9 here i come!!!
- chubbybubba, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Scietology made Tom Cruise a Homosexual.... not that theres anything wrong with that... but its true... he had gay sex with a prominent member of the church!
- krnldmp, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11The only thing dumber than religion is a new one.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Prepare to be hunted down.
- NecroSexy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Travolta? Bruce Willis will ***** him up...again. Yippee-ki-yay, *****!!
- orp2000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7During WWII many people just said folks should just ignore the Nazis, as long as they weren't bothering you. Do you really think that would have been the correct course? Perhaps it's just the easy course. Actually groups like Scientology count on people like you just ignoring them, so they can go about their business, and continue to consolidate their power.
- EarlOfLade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Once the Scientology church can provide evidence for their religious claims, we will be more than happy to take it down, until then, it's nothing more than a fantasy.
How can DMCA protect *****? - thesophomore, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9actually it's a bit more disturbing than that. I mean, right now it may be small and laughable, but it's turning into a serious problem. once enough people get behind it, they start getting power, we're at that tipping point now. also, in my city I see a whole heap of 'Churches of Scientology' being built, the other day I even say four kids inside signing paperwork for their 'free stress test'. it's scary.
imagine if these kids grow up believing, then they teach their kids, god knows what will happen in 200 years from now.. (if we're still around).
i think it should be stopped as soon as possible. - weebit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Good way for www.xenu.net to become popular. :) I don't think Scientology has a chance on some of this. Most is in the public domain. Other parts maybe. But the mere chance to delist could still happen because of just a few pics. But to sue Google that is BS. Go after the host, or the domain itself. Leave Google out of it because they can't police the entire Internet. That is not their job. Their job is to index content, and to be unbiased. If I was Google, I would de-list just the pages, of the offending content. Or just the pictures. This is just a sore attempt of Scientology to have content that goes against their beliefs removed. Censorship.
- SaxxonPike, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It's not their beliefs that get to me. I don't hate them for that. I hate them because they are becoming very arrogant and aggressive in trying to spread their beliefs around. This is another example of that. In fact, I'm sure you will find many instances where their administration has taken "legal action" against someone for something stupid.
- thesophomore, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8and anyone that believes in Scientology is an absolute braindead moron. agreed!
I just hate the way they're throwing their weight around, like they're important or something..
people of the world should probably have recognised the cult in its infancy and shut it down, but now it's getting out of control - MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Before any more people bash them, you first have to know why to hate them. One reason is because Scientologists believe that when they die, their soul, or Thetan, will go to a docking station on Venus, only to be repacked into a meat body and dumped in the ocean of the coast of California. Another is because L. Ron Hubbard was psychotic and put into an insane asylum, where he started writing about this cult in order to justify his insanity. His justification is, he and everyone else is just "adversely affected by forgotten decisions left over from past trauma and by stored mental energies."
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Bet you the submitter read the recent digg popular about scientology, then did some research, found an old article, and then posted on digg.
- keeganspeck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5But hey, they need the democracy, and why not do it if we are going to be welcomed as liberators anyway?
- TheDHC, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6***** scientology in 2002
***** scientology today, worthless cult - BeatnikDude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"The purpose of the suit is to harass and discourage rather than to win. The law can be used very easily to harass, and enough harassment on somebody who is simply on the thin edge anyway, well knowing that he is not authorized, will generally be sufficient to cause his professional decease. If possible, of course, ruin him utterly."
- L. Ron Hubbard, A MANUAL ON THE DISSEMINATION OF MATERIAL, 1955 - aaronrpowell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I don't really understand how they can advance a lawsuit like this. Granted, I don't start my intellectual property class for three weeks, but my understanding is that you can't claim ownership of historical/true facts. That's why the "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" guys lost their case against Dan Brown. They wrote a book they claimed was historically accurate so they then couldn't sue someone for using it in a derivative work. Same thing here. If the Church of Scientology wants to maintain that their beliefs are truth -- and not fiction -- then they can't copyright them. If they admit they're fiction, then they can copyright them. Granted, the specific presentation of non-fictional works can be copyrighted, so reposting word for word Scientology documents is illegal, but if Xenu.net is merely restating in their own words the teachings of the Church, then this lawsuit is entirely groundless.
- bIuebonics, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5i'm not religious, but even an invisible guy in the sky and a virgin birth seems more credible than evil galactic emperor lord xenu, etc...
- BeatnikDude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I think every one should link the keyword Scientology to www.xenu.net
- Memitim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Please; nobody would be that ***** stupid.
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5@SaxxonPike
I actually don't hate them for the reasons I said. I just think they are wacky because of that. The real reason why I dislike and disagree with them is because they are so damn stubborn in their beliefs, and anyone who speaks against them are labeled an "SP", or "Suppressive Person" and are basically bashed by the members of the group "because they are non believers" or something.
They are also involved in the anti-psychiatry movement. I am going to go off on a limb here and say that every person who is a Scientologist is either borderline psychotic or extremely psychotic. The reason why I think that is because if they are anti-psychiatric treatment, then they must be afraid of of being diagnosed with it. And most people who are psychotic usually live in a state of delusion where they not only believe everyone is out to get them, they also think they are perfectly normal.
This also makes sense because the guy who invented the religion was a psychopath, and was in an insane asylum. The cult is essentially a whole bunch of mentally unstable people who banded together. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5A little penicillin will clear that right up.
- bIuebonics, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4yea, and the deposed king of nigeria's gonna go away too...
- culbeda, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Hating the CoS never goes out of style, my friend... Nor should it!
- tomis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Every time one of these crackpots files a lawsuit about their "religion" they should be immediately thrown in jail for filing a frivolous lawsuit and wasting court time. Not to mention their comedic use of copyright law to justify take-down notices. Because copyright so applies to religious texts right?
- jellygraph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3i cant wait for the day that scientology dies out and those who were brainwashed wake up and realize how stupid they were and go on to do something amazing with their life
- brstilson, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5The sad thing is, they likely KNOW these threats are bogus, but everyone in this country is either too poor or too ***** to go to court and defend themselves. The very THREAT of legal action, legitimate or no, can often achieve the results these Scientologist dirtbags are looking for.
- spawnfree, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Christianity may have allot of nutters waving the 'good book' around to make money, my old friend's dad was one and he took half the income from his flock to run his evangelical cult.
BUT there are allot of churches that take enough to run the church and organize positive social projects. Yup, they are a pillar of the community, literately.
Scientology on the other hand takes thousands from people and gives them nothing but happy thoughts. Nothing happens in Scientology unless you are paying. ALLOT.
Scientology values money above all, its a bank at best and a cult at worst and there is not much margin between the two.
If anyone you know is thinking about Scientology get them the ***** away before they are bullied and coerced out of their cash. - Mosatii, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Do no evil.
- Continuum, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You don't know what a cult is exactly do you?
- domomike, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Dugg down for calling Scientology a "religion."
