- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+145Street View is invading my privacy. I should be able to puch whomever I want to in private.
- Claw787, on 10/11/2007, -23/+147Let's hope we won't see a rape.
- arjie, on 10/11/2007, -5/+124He meant, "in the privates".
- Aliarse, on 10/11/2007, -8/+119@claw787 (#7228376)
But if a rape WAS caught, at least the police farce would have a good picture of the scum that did it. - kevma, on 10/11/2007, -10/+102You're on Digg. You don't get sex. Don't pretend.
- kevma, on 10/11/2007, -5/+91Googlebattle.com is now worth an extra thousand dollars.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+88First a guy walking out of a strip club in broad daylight, then a guy peeing on the side of the road, now this?
Google Street View. Now with 50% more humor. - MatttK, on 10/11/2007, -4/+75If by "in private", you mean "on a public street", then I totally agree!

I'm pretty sure that's what your acronym means. - Gadren, on 10/11/2007, -11/+51Quite amazing... I knew that Street View would give us interesting stories...
- Sharkee, on 10/11/2007, -3/+40"Here Comes a New Challenger!!"
- katulatakulu, on 10/11/2007, -2/+35I immediately looked at your mums house
- nick2, on 10/11/2007, -3/+26In a year, we could enter in people's name and see pictures of them fighting in Street View. Kinda like Google Fight
- JesperL, on 10/11/2007, -6/+28I let the voices in my head explain things to me. The voices say he was peeing.

Hes referring to the novel 1984 pothead - aceg1357, on 10/11/2007, -14/+34Man this google stuff is like 1984. Who would have thought big brother would have all of us doing the dirty work of watching and reporting.
- papaslurp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19Clearly, this is the beginning of the alternate reality game marketing campaign for GTA4.
Everyone start scanning street views of graffiti in Manhattan - the URL's gotta be there somewhere. - kaytrio, on 10/11/2007, -17/+35@claw: that was crass
- cwcentral, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17I can't wait until they integrate adwords into maps + street view.
I can't imagine what ads would be served up for showing stuff like this (selection of baseball bats?). - katulatakulu, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19In 1984 Big Brother DID have everyone doing the dirty work of watching and reporting, especially children.
- shortarabguy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16I don't think that Google's "van driver" was specifically trained to mediate street fights.
- FullBleed, on 10/11/2007, -5/+18Thanks for sharing.
- juicys, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Though it is on a public street, its kind of creepy knowing that the city of san francisco was/can be frozen and displayed to the world.
great technology, but creepy nonetheless.
as for the original topic, would be interesting to see the story behind this if it could be found. - BlackCow, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11They aren't purposely being malicious and it hasn't really caused harm. Its interesting and worth being concerned about but its not evil.
- shortarabguy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Several problems with your statement.
"Google corporate ethic # 6: 'You can make money without doing evil.'"
--Oh, but it feels so much better to have your cake and eat it too.
"Street View == Evil"
Uh, no it's not... Lol. If I go driving down Market street in San Francisco and my friend in the front seat takes some photos with my digital camera and I upload them to a photo album under the title "My Trip to San Francisco," is that evil? For that matter, is it evil to take photos of scenic locations if there are random bystanders in the field of view? It's the same concept. This is a completely public place, and these individuals are doing something that anyone else could have photographed and uploaded to the internet.
The only possible way that this could be considered sketchy would be if the photos peered into private property, but that's not even the 4th amendment, it's just peeping toms, which would probably just turn into a large-scale lawsuit, not a federal case of big brother. As long as the photos remain out on the streets, it's perfectly all right.
And before you idiots ask "what if they took a picture of you doing that?" I'll give you my response:
In the highly unlikely event that I'd just start fighting with someone in broad daylight as people and cars are passing by, I would just look at it and think "*****, why did I just start beating that guy up? Do I have a problem with rage? I chased that guy down-- Google caught me chasing that guy down! I feel like such an ass... I need to learn some( and now this is key) SELF CONTROL." - JorgeGT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7"The Google van has none of these."
That's what they want you to think. - MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -6/+13Uh, chances are, if there's a rape and there's a Google van driving around to take picture for Street View (or however this is done) then maybe they'll stop... and help the victim or call the police and in either case.. not publish the image to Steet View?

- webtroy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4is it just me, or does it look like the thug is trying to pull a gun out the back of his pants..

The other possibility being the guy with the hat being some kind of "other man" to the woman in the blue jacket and this is the moment when tan jacket figures out who he is...although the women looked a little old for him from what I saw in the picture. - changyang1230, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Direct Link:

Is it intrusive to walk by 100's of people on the street? (depending where you live) It's not really any different except that Google is storing it and if you are really bothered by it you can report the image to Google and have it removed.
- Step1Mark, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The GoogleVan is far more superior then you think... they dont bother with petty street fights... they are looking for bigger fish to fry... like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, The Shredder, and Zordon because he recently sided with Al-Qaeda.
- Jugalator, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2"As well as a women that looks some what frozen in place"
Yeah, how strange! ;-) - peranadigital, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3keep your shoes on
- Pureeviljester, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1so the difference between the government doing this and google is what? The fact that the government can just use google and save money is interesting.
- thscientist1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1they do this in other countries outside of the U.S.
they set up cameras on corners and watch the magic unfold
i remember on one particular episode of Cuidad:X there was an all out cat fight in the middle of the street
but that wasn't the good part, the best part was a pair of two homeless drunks watching the fight, they moved their own furniture to get a better view, one walked around with a chair on his head and the other had a table on his back.
reality TV at its best. - simplejoe79, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1that is pure bizarre and crazy...

oh, crap. - gjunkie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2This is a block away from my house.
- aserer511, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2"Hey dude, we're famous!"
"What?"
"Our fight, the one I wo-"
"OH ***** YOU I WON"
"NO I WON" - BHSPitMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This is actually the only viable use for the service. And it -rules-.
- NeuroSlappy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Hey with a big bankroll we can setup a whole street view grid on every street, we can all be on camera, just like parts of England. Where is Sue she's late for work? Oh let me see, she just left her house, looks like she is having a bad hair day, oh who's the guy leaving her apartment, isn't that Bill from accounting? This rocks!
- cryptoki, on 02/01/2008, -1/+2Any of you who are cheating on your boyfriend/girlfriend in public... there just might be a camera recording you every move. As technology progresses and higher bandwidth becomes the norm... I'm imagining these data streams will become more widely available to many many people.
- feelmypimphand, on 03/31/2009, -0/+1Punch the clown in private...I agree
- 0004, on 07/04/2008, -7/+7I wonder if these photos can be used as evidence against the guy in the tan jacket.... quite likely they can be used.
