- fkr3, on 11/06/2007, -51/+542My guess is it's because of a combination of popular searches and spell checking.
Aside from excuses and rumours, what have women invented? - hode, on 10/12/2007, -10/+333Google fight will clear this up:
He Invented: 10,300,000
She Invented: 2,510,000

- dmeyers, on 11/06/2007, -12/+298One of the dorms at my campus had womens respect posters up.
A woman invented the Cordless Drill, but thats about all I remember. - PackerX, on 10/12/2007, -12/+293"A woman invented the Cordless Drill, but thats about all I remember."
She was probably tired of her husband using, "I don't have a long enough extension cord," as an excuse. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -34/+266Women invented my dinner.
*ducks* - Dhruv, on 10/12/2007, -9/+229@ 1021 , do you know the difference between a invention and a discovery?
- mrwiggles123, on 10/12/2007, -35/+253Why is it called PMS?
Mad-cow disease was already taken - noreturn, on 10/12/2007, -7/+223http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-ray
You will notice that the name "Curie" does not appear one time in that article. Curie discovered radiation; she did not invent X-ray. - Hacbarton, on 10/12/2007, -13/+181My favorite detail is that the 5 first results all either have to do with kitchen appliances or lying.
- Flawed77, on 10/12/2007, -38/+194I'll respect women when they get the vote.
- theguy23, on 10/12/2007, -8/+157A few weeks ago, I was trying to find a picture of someone striking a gong with a mallet. So what did I Google?
"gong banging."
Even with Safe Search on, Google thought I was a misspelling pervert. - SultanTravi, on 10/12/2007, -9/+144I like how the first return has to do with Sheryl Crow inventing some stupid sleeve you can wipe your face with.

- Gannoc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+90This is stupid.
Up until the mid 20th century, women didn't really have the opportunities to invent anything, and today, people don't get the credit for inventing things, corporations do. - neozeed, on 10/12/2007, -19/+95Such eloquence! I’m simply enamored in your ability to withstand any criticism. Are you related to my ex wife?
- offwithyourtv, on 10/12/2007, -3/+75@bbrigg1
You shouldn't call people out on their supposed grammatical errors and then follow it up with no beginning capitalization, a comma splice, and two accounts of no ending punctuation. But I guess I'll give you credit for using the correct "you're." - gravis86, on 10/12/2007, -9/+76"Arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics: even if you win, you're still retarded."

I don't think Digg is your thing - Skeuomorph, on 10/12/2007, -7/+70Some of the GoogleFights above are not used correctly.
Should be http://www.googlefight.com/index.php?lang=en_GB&word1=%22He+Invented%22&word2=%22She+Invented%22 with quotes.
The phrase "he invented" and "she invented" with quotes require the words to be together, instead of just somewhere on the same page.
Also, "women inventors" and "men inventors" are not good indicators. First, "men inventors" is unlikely to be written at all. Indeed, there are only 1,000 uses of this phrase, while "male inventors" has only 2,000 mentions. Meanwhile, "female inventor" has 40,000 mentions, which sounds impressive, except when you note that the word "female" is only likely to be used if the author specifically adds that word to show the inventor was not male.
What we really need is, mirroring waiter and and waitress, "inventor" and "inventress" (3,700 mentions!). - JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+62And if you click through to "he invented" you get Al Gore inventing (or not) the Internet.
- Bossman1086, on 10/12/2007, -19/+75@FizixMan:
I don't think that's really useful.... - FiestyPumpkin, on 10/12/2007, -13/+68Okay, most inventors were men, however there are plenty of women who have made substantial contributions, such as:
Gertrude Elion patented the leukemia-fighting drug 6-mercaptopurine in 1954 and has made a number of significant contributions to the medical field.
Mary Anderson invented the windshield wiper.
Helen Free invented the home diabetes test.
Bette Nesmith Graham invented White-Out.
Many police officers owe their lives to Stephanie Kwolek, for Kevlar is the material used in bullet proof vests.
Patsy Sherman regards the serendipitous discovery of Scotchgard as one of her most significant works because many experts had written that such a product was "thermodynamically impossible."
In 1919, Alice Parker of Morristown, New Jersey, invented a new and improved gas heating furnace that provided central heating.
This information came from the website listed below. You can obtain the complete list of women inventors from here.
http://inventors.about.com/library/blwomeninventors.htm - Darklyte510, on 10/12/2007, -4/+56I'm pretty sure it takes both a woman AND a man for that one... I think.
- donjuan571, on 10/12/2007, -1/+52Stephanie Kwolek invented Kevlar in the 60s, which saved my life in Iraq, as well as countless other american troops, probably one of the most notable inventions for law enforcement and military members alike in the last 200 years. Thanks Stephanie if you read this!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevlar - desistere, on 10/12/2007, -7/+55The first two articles have Cheryl Crow "says" she invented and Alice Water "thinks" she invented.
- mrwiggles123, on 10/12/2007, -4/+51Never argue with a idiot, they only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

- hagbard72, on 10/12/2007, -13/+54I see a woman invented the chocolate chip cookie. Were would we be without these great woman inventors??

- Suspicious, on 10/12/2007, -6/+41It also works with "She discovered"
- colouredlights, on 10/12/2007, -16/+50Women invented the "hold-out" so be nice, my gf is on here. She blames me for the actions of this entire community.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37But what did she /invent/ ?
The argument is about woman inventors, not famous/smart women - strangewill, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37I would have starved.
- ZanCakes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+36@1021
In your second comment you do actually have a very valid point - women only really gained the right (in Western and Westernized countries anyways) to work during and post second world war (aka first generation feminists). Prior to this a womens rights were to bare children and be a house maker, owned by her father and then by her husband - basically nullifying their chances to actually "invent" anything not confined to the realm of the kitchen, of which I am sure many delicious pies were the result.
So really... it's only been in the last 100 years, and only in westernized countries that women have started really becoming prominent or even recognized in any field, were as men, as we all know, have been able to do so for thousands of years. - Tarmas, on 10/12/2007, -6/+37Hedley Lamarr

Yeah, way to go. Digging the guy down for a classic Mel Brooks reference. Some people need to get out more. - ijeff, on 10/12/2007, -16/+45Alphabet blocks, Apgar tests, Chocolate-chip cookies, Circular saw, Dishwasher, Disposable diaper, Electric hot water heater, Elevated railway, Engine Muffler, Fire escape, Globes, Ironing board, KEVLAR, life raft, liquid paper, locomotive chimney, medical syringe, rotary engine, adhesive tape, street cleaning machine, submarine lamp and telescope, windshield wiper. The list goes on.
"American colonist and inventor, Sybilla Masters invented a way for cleaning and curing the Indian corn crops that the colonist in early America received as a gift from the native peoples. Sybilla Masters's innovation allowed the corn to be processed into many different food and cloth products. The patent was issued in her husband Thomas’ name by the British courts in 1715. That was the unfair law at the time, women and minorities had no rights to own patents. Thomas Masters was issued patents for "Cleansing Curing and Refining of Indian Corn Growing in the Plantations". A second patent was issued to Sybilla's husband for another of her inventions entitled "Working and Weaving in a New Method, Palmetta Chip and Straw for Hats and Bonnets and other Improvements of that Ware."
Sybilla Masters was the first American woman inventor in recorded history, no doubt women have been inventing since the dawn of time without recognition."
