- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -6/+142I don't understand what everyone's up in arms about. I was just trying to get a tan.

- edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -3/+69Because, when scrawling a giant phallus on the roof of your old school late at night, the first thing on your mind is anatomical correctness.
- freff, on 10/12/2007, -24/+76FTFA" Google said: “If users spot something offensive we would consider having it removed.”
That's the Google we know and love who rolled over for the Chinese government like a $2 hooker. Do no evil, indeed.... - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -4/+51what? isn't yours that long?
- DingoAteMeBaby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+46I'm kind of surprised they spotted only 1. As a former roofer, we use to draw these things on roofs all the time.
- cliffotn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37A penis on the roof of the school is not offensive.
Now the vagina on the football field, that is questionable. - saleem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34but if its found on google earth then its indeed true... whats the problem.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+36"The Penis Game" has been taken to a whole new level
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35offensive? better not show them this then...
http://www.historic-uk.com/CultureUK/ChalkFigures.htm - Jwoey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30I was going to say, it seems like really crappy writing to say "it can be seen from SPACE"
I mean, does it really count if its zoomed in so close? anything can be seen from space if you zoom in far enough. - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28 that's what she said...
- graddatadda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24it's only a model
- mousy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27From space?
I doubt you could see the building from space, never mind the penis... - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22well, given someone provided the co-ordinates in google earth and it is in fact still there, I don't think the reliability of the source even enters the equation
- WitNit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Carefully...very, very carefully
- korimickster, on 10/12/2007, -8/+27It's... beautiful...
- frant1c, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24I sense a new Google Earth discipline emerging: penile spotting!
- martalli, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21For the curious, the location is:
54°30'22.65"N
1°21'7.72"W - Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23It's full of stars.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15@ulyssesyt
Why?
Is it so hard to understand that not everyone you meet on the interweb is from America? There are some other countries in the world who have technology. We're not all throwing stones at each other and grunting out here...
ps I've got a mate who lives "just down the road" from there, 'mate' - innate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Why couldn't [s]he live just down the road?
- freff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12That reminds me. I came home the other day, and my girlfriend was sitting on the couch with an eyepatch over her eye.
Concerned, I asked her what happened, and she said, "Well, I went shopping downtown earlier, and as I was walking past this fenced construction site, I heard the construction workers chanting in unison 13,13,13,13,13.
So, curious about what was going on, I looked through a knot hole in the fence. And as soon as I did, one of the construction workers poked his dick through the hole and they all started to yell 14,14,14....." - mxxx, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17It's just down the road from where I live. And I have an idea who may have done it...
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Most of the time: No.
However, this time...

We all know a satellite or plane cam can take a picture to the resolution of a license plate with the right camera.
- tehJR, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Ahh, that's where I put it.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10@SmokeTheHun
I don't think you'll be able to see it anyway. It's on the side of a hill so it will look odd from above. I can assure you it's real though. - sporkwitch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12On second thought, let's not, it's a silly place.
- freff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11@ulyssesyt
"you don't get it. put a chalk dick on a roof, give Google time to map it, then createa a "story"."
Are you trying to suggest that The Sun drew a giant penis on the roof of a local school themselves, waited for Google Earth to find this penis and update the images on their servers, and then had the audacity to break the story in order to get a couple hundred digg views. Ingenious.
Those are some tricky guys. By the way, pass me a bit of whatever you are having there, man. - OutrightLie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Wow.... if you look closely at the surrounding areas you'll find a bunch of dumb drivers going around the traffic circles the wrong way!!
- Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Not taken from space. Taken from a plane.
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9^ shh
- jaredbelch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9It's there, type this into google earth and zoom in
54 30'22.83" N 1 21'08.02" W - Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -1/+8depends on the place. i've seen some rural areas 5+ years behind while more urban areas very nearby 1-2 years old
- Cowboy5995, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Anyone notice if you zoom out to about the 6th notch on google maps that entire town and area makes another giant willy?
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=54%C2%B030%2722.65%22N+1%C2%B021%277.72%22W - GabrielS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It's the Sun. You're only stupid if you paid to read it. All is well.
- szembek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Thanks conan359, that's really the only link needed for this. No description, article, summary necessary.
- freff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Actually, it's just fun to think that the search engine company that prides itself in finding anything, can truly claim that they can indeed find....ahhhh...anything.
And like saleem said, it's pretty easy to verify. Not that I was looking for a giant penis on a building or anything. - norris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Our cities are visible from space. You just have to look during the night.
- PaGaNism, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You're forgetting that this was The SUN. Most other publication would of called it a penis or possibly a phallic image. The SUN is a British Tabloid daily newspaper that appears to employ 12 year old journalists who like to snigger at the words willy and manhood.
- jakdracula, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yea, nothing man made, not even the great wall of China, is visible from space. It would be more accurate to say: "visible using telescopic cameras from space stationed satellites" or something like that.
- xero69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So can the artists now walk up to an attractive woman and honestly say "Hey baby, my penis is so big you can only see it using Google Earth". Now that's nerd pimpin!
- DingoAteMeBaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Something wonderful is going to happen.
- Seanpr123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Is it wrong that I see this and only wish I had left such a lasting impression on my school...
- biff198, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6How exactly do you "burn a manhood" in the grass?
- andydumi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6How old are Google maps images? I thought they were 3-4 years behind...
- sporkwitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's not clearly visible, but I'm under the impression that it's something that can be just made out if you know how and where to look (the great wall, that is). I agree though, but it's social-norm these days to exagerate grossly.
- jd33, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I guess size does matter.
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Not taken from space. Taken from a plane."
And still not as impressive as if taken from behind. -
