Is this the proper action to take against a teenager for having a slutty impulse and degrading herself this way? By making a criminal of her?

    These laws were not made to protect 15-year-olds from their own stupid indiscretions. Designating this girl a registered sex offender for life does exactly nothing to prevent any child pornography.

    Case in point: a local mall near me doesn't allow minors in, unless accompanied by an adult over 21 (valid rule, it's in a bad neighborhood, they've had several incidents). The caveat is that only 4 minors can be with the adult.
    So a mother of five goes to the mall, and - you've guessed it, they don't allow her in. They actually suggested she leave one of her children in her car.

    Stuff like this happens around the world, likely, but I've been hearing about it a lot recently.

We make 15 or 16 the age of consent, allowing girls of that age to have sex with their friends, but make the act of taking a self portrait, even a non-sexual nude portrait, a felony. Unless the picture is of an overtly sexual nature (not just nude, or even suggestively posed nude, but overtly sexual) then the picture does not rise to the legal level of pornography.

    Our position that 15 year old girls are too young for sexual activity, and even more that girls that are legally old enough for sexual activity are still forbidden from the simple act of photography, is stupid. Making a 15 year old girl a felon over a few pictures she took of herself, something that will hamper her ability to get a good education, get a job, drastically reduce her choices of where to live, make it a crime for her to visit playgrounds, libraries, public swimming pools, etc, is absolutely ridiculous.
